This scholarship will allow me to pursue a higher level of education. I made the most of my four years in high school, and receiving this scholarship would allow me to do the same for the next four years. I spent my high school career preparing for the future by maintaining good grades and staying involved in extra-curricular activities. With a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.981 on a 4.0 scale, I spend a lot of time on school work. Being ranked 9th out of 114 students is something I take pride in having accomplished. Grades are incredibly important to me, and I believe it shows. I am constantly looking for ways to challenge myself, so naturally I took all the honors courses offered at my high school. While the extra work may have been challenging, …show more content…
Yearbook is one that is very near and dear to my heart, and over the course of the past two years has received the majority of my attention. I joined during sophomore year, and immediately knew it was something I would continue. My junior year I decided I wanted to be seen as a leader, so I became the editor of the sports section, as well as the right-hand man to the main editor. I spent countless hours reviewing spreads, making improvements to the book, and doing whatever I could to help out my peers. This hard-work only intensified during my senior year as I took on the role of editor. Earning this role is something that I take a lot of pride in, and have learned a multitude of lessons about leadership and organization through. When not working on yearbook, I spend a lot of time with my high school’s F.B.L.A. (Future Business Leaders of America) chapter. As a club officer for the past two years I have worked collaboratively with fellow officers to plan club events, such as our annual run/walk through downtown, and tours of local business. This club is what has lead me to my current path of study, and I am incredibly grateful for the endless opportunities it has given me to increase my leadership skills and learn the importance professionality. This scholarship would allow me to continue my leadership skills through the various different groups and clubs, such as Blue Chip Leadership, that are
William C. Friday, former President of the University of North Carolina system and a dedicated educator, said of Roy H. Park ‘31, distinguished NC State graduate and namesake of the Park Scholarships: "Always of good humor and with a generous heart, he… [shared] of himself gladly in the service of others." How and why have you shared of yourself in the service of others?
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
I believe that there are many reasons that I am well qualified to receive this “Courage to Grow” scholarship. One main point would be my excellence in leadership and community service. I currently serve as senior class Vice President and President of the Future Teachers of America club at Auburn High School. I am a class representative for our Student Council and am very involved with the children’s ministry at my local church, serving as a Kids Camp counselor and VBS assembly leader. Another reason I believe I should receive this scholarship is for my outstanding academic achievements. I have been inducted into the National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society and the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honors Society. I have also received
It is a tremendous honor to be considered for membership in the most prestigious Honor Society available at Wapato High School. It is even more grand to be able to work towards enrollment in the Society side by side with such an astoundingly gifted group of young men and women. I am only being considered for potential membership in the National Honors Society because I have demonstrated an exemplary academic attitude, and have proven this through the grades I have attained during the years I have spent in the Wapato School District and the fondness amongst my teachers I have achieved. There are also other characteristics besides good scholarship I must fill for membership in the Society, those being services I have done to benefit others in the community, leadership positions I have held, and an original and interesting demonstration of
As of right now I only have one B. My completion of 9 college credit hours last semester has given me a head start into my future endeavors. This semester 15 college credit hours, in addition to my high school classes, is what I have challenged myself with academically. My strict personal goals, future career pathway, and my outstanding time management have earned me a 4.0 in my college classes. This scholarship should be received by me because, I am a strong willed individual, who puts my education at a higher standard than anything else. A challenge of taking a total of 24 college credit hours, while still going to High School, while maintaining a part time job on the side, is not something most individuals would consider.
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
Getting this scholarship was my jump start to furthering my education and I knew from there that I was going to prove statistics wrong. I knew I was going to college and that things were going to be different for me and I was going to make a difference. I won’t be the black kid who drops out of school, because my education is too important to
I plan to graduate from College of the Sequoias with an Associate’s Degree in communications and to maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.7. Once I earn my degree, I will transfer to a university where I will begin to work on my master’s degree. With my master’s degree I can pursue my dream of working for Disney Parks in public relations. While I am still a college student, I will apply and hopefully be given the opportunity to participate in the Disney College Program as well as a Disney Professional Internship. These internships will help me to learn more about working in the field of communications, to gain practical experience and to network with individuals who can help me achieve my career goals. A scholarship would be incredibly helpful for me to achieve all that I intend to by allowing me to devote more time to my school work. Since I currently work two jobs, as a tutor and as a sales associate, it is often difficult to find time and energy to complete my schoolwork. If I were to earn a scholarship, it would allow me to work fewer hours a week so that I can focus more of my energy and time on my education. That way, I can get the best grades possible and have the best chance of success in my
According to statistics, youth whose parents have not attended a post secondary are 19.8% less likely to attend university than those whose parents have. They also show a 12.8% gap between youth whose parents are in the bottom third of income distribution as opposed to those with higher incomes. On top of this, there's a 14.6% difference between youth from rural areas compared to population centres and a 7.5% gap between youth with one parent and youth with two. And yet, against all odds, I am writing to you today in the hopes of funding my education. I exhibit a majority of the characteristics you are looking for, such as leadership, financial need, a solid career plan and 2 and a half years of work experience. These are just some of the qualities that qualify me for the Harrison McCain scholarship.
I need this scholarship to achieve my goals and most importantly to make my family proud. My family did not get this chance that you are giving me so I am not just doing this for me, I am also doing this for them. I already have all the support from all of my family and all of my friends, but that alone is not enough to conquer my dreams, and to prove all the people that have doubted me that they were wrong. I hope that this organization can help me reach my goals, and to most importantly make them become a reality. I want to look back onto my life and know that this scholarship, and college helped me to be the man I will be. I hope you accept me into your college and most importantly giving me this
Scholarship is Academic study or achievement. I displays scholarship through my school work and grades. I have tried to take the classes that are going to really help me in the real world, not just the ones that are easy or fun. Through high school I have chosen to take electives such as spanish and accounting. I have also opped to take harder classes through high school such as chemistry over physical science, and I even started taking high school math in eighth grade so as a freshmen I was taking sophomore math classes. I would say that even with
My passion for public service initiated in my third grade reading class. It was there that I volunteered for “Reading Together USA”, a program to help younger children learn to read. The joy and delight that I felt from witnessing my students’ progress was unprecedented to any feeling that I ever felt before, and I knew from that point forward that my life would be committed to serving the public. Although my forms (TRYING TO SAY WAYS LIKE 1st pre-med then law) of serving others may have changed, the trend of service has remained constant through high school, college, and even my career.
The immersion in the professional world that Kemper Scholars experience would contribute considerably to me achieving my personal goals. The program would connect my history and business studies with real world application by demonstrating how to practice those skills in the management and operations of organizations. One of my goals is to foster my self-confidence by speaking without hesitation and to become daring in unfamiliar environments. The opportunity would grow my fearlessness through the foreign environments I would be expected to work in – provoking me to challenge my insecurities and build upon my confidence. A career aspect of my goals is to ignite social change and innovate nonprofits by becoming a twenty-first century leader
If I am going to be completely honest I need to express my true reason for applying for the USDA scholarship. For starters, I am tired of relying on my family to help me pay for college, I want to take more responsibility for my schooling. My mother is the one who pays for my tuition since my father is now unemployed and I will not take money from him until he is fully able to support himself. This situation does not really sit well with my mother, because unlike my sister she received help from both our parents during her schooling. I am very grateful and blessed that I do have a mother who is supporting me through college since I know several people who are doing it on their own unwillingly. However, I often feel as though I am a burden towards
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
