Schizophrenic Creativity in Nasar's A Beautiful Mind and Ron Howard's Movie
In Ron Howard's (2001) A Beautiful Mind, Russell Crowe gives life to Sylvia Nasar's depiction of the schizophrenic genius John Nash in her novel of the same title. Both Nasar and Howard try to depict Nash's creative genius in an effort to unlock understanding of the creative process. The underlying reality of Nash's psychological creative process may never fully be realized due to the extreme difficulty of coherently portraying the mind of a schizophrenic, however the relationships between the portrayals of Nash through each medium shed light on Howard's own view of the creative process. Howard's decision to depict a rather coherent case of schizophrenia directly relates to the overall depiction of the creative process as something at once logical and irrational, fantastic and grounded in reality.
Although there are some inconsistencies between Nasar's novel and Howard's movie and even between Nasar's book and what some reviews have claimed to be the truth of Nash's life, these inconsistencies can be analyzed and understood to be intentional enlightening hints as to both Nasar's and Howard's views of what the creative process exactly was for John Nash. Ron Howard takes a very interesting diversion from Nasar's text right from the beginning of the movie in an effort to project a fairly
consistent portrayal of Nash's creative process from the very beginning of his signs of genius. Howard decides to initiate Nash's case of schizophrenia from the very outset of Nash's ability to think creatively. Nasar clearly presents Nash as a strong intellectual student who, however asocial, is not insane up through the age of thirty. Howard does arguably port...

...o which John Nash's Game Theory was applicable to the real world. Thus, Howard defines the creative process of John Nash as basically very idealized and, to some extent, mild version of schizophrenia. Although Nash did win the Nobel Prize, Howard overlooks the opinions held by many that the Game Theory didn't, in fact, merit the Nobel Prize. Thus, to Howard, the creative process has very little connection, if any, to any art that is subsequently produced. To Howard, the creative process is a journey to learn knowledge firsthand, pioneering through the mind no matter how grounded in reality.

The world hunger is the deadliest disease in the world today, despite the fact that there is more food on earth, but fewer people cannot have access to this food, or even get the opportunity to grow some due to poverty, or lack of good soil to grow crops. World hunger is caused when natural resources become destroyed by earthquakes, or civil war. Another reason is drought and flooding. World hunger is also an issue in undeveloped countries because of political corruption, poverty, environmental issues, overpopulation, economics, and pestilence. It is sad to see people dying from malnutrition, and starvation every second. While we that have it doesn’t seem to appreciate it but waste it instead of helping those that in need of it. As you can see this a real problem, as debated in my visual

Across the globe in impoverished third world countries an estimated 50,000 children die of starvation every day (Quine 36). We have all seen the images of these children--bloated bellies, fly covered, bulging eyes--in television pleas by various charitable organizations. While these images sicken us, we idly sit by (often flipping the channel to avoid them), refusing to help these less fortunate kids. The problem is made worse by the ever-increasing population. Even the wealthy countries like our own now have a starvation problem (Quine 29). Admittedly, the problem here is less severe, but it still exists. With our current level of technology, the resources at our disposal, and a commitment to help those less fortunate, we can and must end starvation around the world before it gets worse.
Social Sciences: “What role does poverty play in world hunger issues, and how does it affect the daily lives of those living without food”?
Imagine not being able to reach into your refrigerator and pull out a snack. Think about those mornings when you forget to eat breakfast and your stomach is growling the whole morning. Now imagine not being able to suppress that feeling. Imagine feeling that hunger day after day. This is reality for almost a sixth of the world’s population. Is there any good news? Yes there is. There are many ways for us to reduce world hunger. This essay will look at the causes of world hunger as well as short-term, and long-term, solutions. World hunger can be solved using a combination of ideas and people working together.
The life and legend of Dr. John Forbes Nash, Jr. has been one that has been publicized for many reasons. Many may have heard of Nash because of his remarkable contributions to the world of mathematics, perhaps as a Noble Prize winner in 1994, or as the subject of the book and Hollywood film, A Beautiful Mind, that is based on his life and career. While attending Princeton University, Nash developed the equilibrium concept for non-cooperative games theory, which is currently known as the Nash Equilibrium. (Noble Prize Winner, 2013). Upon graduating from Princeton at the age of 20, Nash began teaching at Princeton for one year before taking a position as C.L.E. Moore math instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T). While at M.I.T., Nash met his wife Alicia Lopez-Harrison de Larde, whom would soon become pregnant with their first child. In 1959 at the age of 21 and with a child to be soon born, Nash began to suffer from mental disturbances. As a result of his mental disturbances, he resigned as an instructor from M.I.T and withdrew his entire pension. At resignation, Nash’s wife admitted him into McLean Hospital where he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 1959 (Nobel Prize Winner, 2013). De Larde divorced Nash in 1963 as a result of his illness.

Broadcasted throughout the whole nation, the annual Hunger Games serve as
Nash showed much change in the way he was functioning through the movie. After treatment, it seemed like he had his disease under control, but he still had problems disbelieving in his hallucinations by still acting on them. For example, he still thought he was working for the government by helping them decode secrete codes in the newspapers. He tried to hide this from his wife by keeping all his work hidden in a shed. Eventually, Nash's life is seen as he returns to the college to teach and continues completing his mathematics work, while still seeing the delusions. This life is clearly far from normal. But for Nash, it also seems the best option.
On the topic of how the entertainment media uses schizophrenia and other mental illnesses in films, Patricia R. Owen, Ph. D., focuses on how depictions of schizophrenia, in movies, are based off of stereotypes and cause viewers to believe in misinterpretations, which causes discrimination towards those with mental illness. Her article “Portrayals of Schizophrenia by Entertainment Media: A Content Analysis of Contemporary Movies,” goes in depth by revolving around how entertainment films affects worldly views and the different researches done to prove this.
CH2GEN1How can military personnel who are taught to immediately obey without question, perform immoral acts:: Within our society we are taught from a young age right from wrong; we establish moral codes and learn the importance of compliance with the laws associated with it. For those within the Military, the moral codes and laws associated with military life are held to a higher standard of obedience. Military personnel once deployed need to be able to take and carry out orders given by their superiors quickly and efficiently, because of this disobedience is not tolerated. Military personnel

As time has passed, world hunger has become an issue that seems to never go away. Overtime hunger began to decrease, but it is now on the rise again. Nearly 800 million people do not have enough to eat (Poole Kavana). The reason for this is not because the world produces too little food. It is because several families are living in poverty and cannot afford to buy the food being produced. Along with this, nearly a third of food produced is wasted. This issue results in the death of 12 million children each year (Poole Kavana).
The Hunger Games is about mainly two characters. A girl named Katniss Everdeen and a boy named Peeta Mellark are those two. These two compelling characters get selected to be the two tributes from District 12 to compete in an arena made by Gamemakers where they fight to the death. Each of the 12 districts has a boy and a girl selected as tribute so there are 24 of them fighting to the death. The week before the games start all of the tributes have preparation and are mentored throughout that whole week. Once the games start the 24 tributes all have their own strategies and are trying to win.
