Introduction to Film
Allison Boldt A genre is a type or category of film (or other work of art) that can be easily identified by specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. (Goodykoontz, 2014) The gangster film is a sub-genre of the broader genre of crime film. A genre main objective is to classify the depiction of entertainment. The genre of my movie is a gangster film. My movie I chose was Scarface. The main character, Tony, was a refugee from Cuba.Tony had a small family which was his mom and his little sister. Tony’s mom despised him and did not want him around his little sister. Tony had all the attributes of a soldier. Tony knew about guns and how to control a group of others that follow him. Tony killed high a ranking political leader which gained the eye of a drug dealer. The drug dealer wanted Tony became a drug dealer and Tony begin his reign with drugs. As Tony dealt drugs he became an drug abuser as well. Tony became the biggest drug lord which brought Tony a lot of enemies. …show more content…

Tony loved the woman when he first laid eyes on her. The women was the drug dealer’s (Frank) wife, (the first dealer that hired Tony) even though Tony knew Frank’s wife was married, Tony still flirted with her every-time he got a chance. Frank’s wife kept declining Tony’s advancements. Even though Elvira was declining Tony’s advancements, Elvira still enjoyed being around Tony. One day as Tony was rising up the drug business, shots were fired inside his club by some henchman. Tony found out that the henchman was hired by Frank. Tony killed Frank for his dishonesty and unlawfulness. Soon after Tony killed Frank he went to Frank’s wife and told her to come with him.     Another example of the evolution of Tony's sense of good and evil through the utilisation of setting is Tony's own home.  To him, his home provided him with warmth and safety.  This was due to the people who lived in the house.  Antonio's father creates a sense of protection in the home.  When Tenorio and his men come to he house to take Ultima away, Tony's father "would let no man invade his home" (pg 123).  This gave Tony faith that as long as his father was around, he would be protected.  Antonio's mother made home a loving and caring place to be.  She would always baby Antonio and give him the affection he needed whenever he needed it.  The morning after Tony had seen Lupito killed, Ultima tells Tony's mother not to be too hard on Antonio; he had a hard night last night.  His mother puts her arms around Tony and holds him saying he "is only a boy, a baby yet" (Pg.28).  The Virgin also makes the atmosphere of Antonio's home peaceful and protected.  Tony loves the Virgin Mary because "she always forgave" (Pg. 42).  Tony thought she was "full of a quiet, peaceful love" (Pg.42) which she filled the home with.  The most important person who contributed to the goodness of Antonio's home was Ultima.  She made Antonio feel as though her presence filled the home with safety, love, and a sense of security.  When Tony saw Lupito get killed, it was Ultima who calmed him.  Whenever he had a nightmare, Ultima was there to comfort Antonio and "[he] could sleep again" (Pg.
