In this article, he mentions that people pay to go the theater in time of distress to relieve themselves of their daily life. They do not want to watch a movie that conflict with their belief, so a movie that challenges with this idea seems to get less likeness. Add the example of Yosso idea of white privileges. Erin’s father is a successful lawyer, wealthy, sophisticated, and a gentleman (respected). Yosso argues that “racism--the systematic oppression of people of color--privileges Whites” (5). The film appear to emphasize Erin Gruwell’s family whereas there is lack of involvement and importance for Eva’s parents. The depiction of the perfect white culture and relationship seem to be different yet “normal”. The ideal of a normal family consist of a perfectly married couple with careers and being middle-class. Therefore, it does appear to support the majoritarian narrative due to it actuality in their representation of the white versus people of color. It is about a group of students of color who suffer through poverty, gang activities, violence, racial discrimination, and sexism.
