The song ‘Save Rock and Roll’ was written by Fall Out Boy members Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump with creative assistance from Elton John, who sings the track with the band. The song was released on April 12, 2013 on the album ‘Save Rock and Roll’ by the band Fall Out Boy. The album was the first released after the bands three year hiatus, which is important to some of the songs lyrics. Bassist Pete Wentz said in an interview with Billboard Magazine that he wrote the song to add some variations in main stream music, and that he imagined the headlines as saying that they ‘saved rock and roll,’ which is where the title of the album came from.
The purpose of this message is to entertain people, but make them think about it. I can tell from the meaningful lyrics and various things the members have said in interviews. The lyrics are fun to listen to, but they also have a deeper meaning that is harder to understand, which is that kids need to keep fighting to not conform to mainstream standards and stay unique.
