Eschewing the “big head” theory of advertising displayed in the mid-50’s, Saul bass broke tradition with his savage, jagged-print objects and use of broken type. Saul Bass was an American graphic designer who for over more than 40+ years worked on a number of projects ranging from print and identity development to movie title sequences. Bas redefined film’s visual language and in the process liberated generations of designers. Bass began to revolutionize graphics design in the 1940s. His first major break in the industry was through the 1954 film Carmen Jones. From this point forward, Bass began to step up the sophistication of the movie poster through his distinctive minimal style. His bold, confident lines and simple images recall the commercial …show more content…
Throughout the years, Bass continued to develop a number of iconic posters and title credits while working with a number of the biggest names in the industry during that time including Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, Martin Scorsese, and many others. In the 1960s, Bass’ title sequences continue to develop graphically with the addition of new graphical movements. Much of this was due to his collaboration with future wife Elaine Makatura. Elaine Makatura Bass is an American film title design and filmmaker. She began her graphic design career as an assistant in Saul Bass’ office. They first collaborated on the opening title of the movie Spartacus. This was the beginning of a 40 year collaboration between Saul and Elaine. During these 40 years, the Basses employed diverse filmmaking techniques such as the Bunraku-style maneuver in their first film Spartacus (1960), live action sequences in Walk on the Wild Side (1962) and time lapse photography in The Age of Innocence (1993), among others. Saul Bass also had a major influence in a number of long lasting commercial logos. Other then being commercially recognized, Saul Bass’s logos are well known for their longevity. The average lifespan of a Saul Bass logo is a whopping 34 years. Some of those that have yet be replaced include: Kose

In this paper, I want to argue that Fritz Lang's effective use of Cinemascope and Mise-en-scène in Moonfleet, ultimately allowed him to better express his signature stylistic elements, despite the many restrictions he had to work with throughout the production process. These restrictions included but were not limited to: a new stylistic filming process; Cinemascope, and the frayed relationship Fritz Lang was speculated to share with MGM, the production company he worked with for Moonfleet.
Sam Gilliam is was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on November 30, 1933. He served in the United States Army for two years. He received his education from University of Louisville and is a world renowned color artist. Morris Louis and Ken Noland’s works of art had a huge impact on Sam Gilliam and his works. Gilliam taught in Louisville publics schools and many art colleges. He is known for his colorful and unique art. He was one of the first artists to not frame his art work instead he would just paint on a bare canvas or drapes. His art style is very modern and loud. When someone looks at his works of art they have instant imagination and questions. Gilliam leaves his works of art up for interpretation, there is no solid meaning to them. Anyone can make see whatever they want, his art allows for freedom and Ray II is no different.
Growing up I remember my mom turning the music up whenever she heard a good song. The only genre, she listened to was country so I grew up loving country music. I now turn the music up whenever I hear a song Luke Bryan wrote because his music is so good. Growing up Luke Bryan was a normal child, but over the 20 or more years, so many devastating things have happened to his family that are hard for Bryan and his family to get over.
The Beethoven Symphony #9 in D minor is being announced during the 4th movement of the symphony. Typically, in symphonies, the 4th movements take part in the term of Allegro, which means it is played quickly or fast. However, in Beethoven Symphony, the 4th movement opens with a flurry sound and then is introduced by an instrumental recitative. A recitative is a style of music alternating between speaking and singing words on the same note. In a recitative, the music lines are not repeated even though formally composed songs do.
He was labeled a terrible graphic designer in the nineties. His agonized typography drove a clique of critics to indict him of not being serious and of destroying the origins and foundation of communication design. Now, the work and techniques of David Carson dominates design, advertising, the Web, and even motion pictures.
MAIN NAME SHEET David Carson was born in Texas in the United States. Many of his design influences have come from his early childhood while travelling around America, Puerto Rico and the West Indies. His first significant exposure to graphic design education came as part of a three-week workshop in Switzerland, where the Swiss graphic designer Hans-Rudolph Lutz influenced him. He then worked in a high school near San Diego from 1982 to 1987. During this time he also carried highly experimental graphic design as the art director of the magazine Transworld Skateboarding. Among his abilities of art directing, graphic designing and film directing, he was also a professional surfer. His immense interest in the surfing culture persuaded him to return to the West Coast where he helped launch the magazine Beach Culture. The magazine only lasted three years but Carson’s pioneering approach to design, particularly toward typography challenged the fundamental aspects of all design and graphic communication. SURFER SHEET Carson’s work was often arresting and powerfully communicative. From 1991 to 1992 he worked on Surfer magazine. The straightforward styling of the covers was a strong contrast to the later "How" magazine covers. Here you could associate with Carson as his unique use of typography filled each cover to give an interesting introduction to the contents. After this came his break into an international profile when he helped launch Raygun magazine, ...

Penn has won renown as much in editorial photography as in advertising illustration, and his innovations especially in portraits and still life have set him apart stylistically. In later years, he turned to television commercials as an outlet for his unique talent. One of the most imitated among contemporary photographers, his work has been widely recognized and applauded.
Universal Studio’s have had 11 developments of their logo in-between 1914 and 2013. The first five of which are very rare to find. One of the first elements recognizable throughout the 11 developments is that they have continually kept the use of a globe within the centre of the logo. This represents the global re...

For half a century, every title of films has been designed very seriously. These titles reflect the main elements or impression of the story in a dynamic form. Tracing the source, the well-designed movie titles are derived from an American designer, Saul Bass. Saul Bass is a graphic designer who graduated from Brooklyn College and studied under Gyorgy Kepes, a master of the functional Bauhaus aesthetic (Bigman, 2015).
