Rumors are spread all over the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Paparazzi is always following celebrity, taking everything they do way out of proportion like going to a doctor because of a cold, paparazzi will make it sound like they went because they have HIV. A lot of things on the internet are complete lies, but there are very few reliable sources. The media spreading these lies about Trump and woman coming out saying he groped them are completely way out of proportion and they should as media outlets be ashamed of themselves. I think most if not all “rumors” spread on social media are lies unless given facts. Nowadays, you can’t just go say something on the internet and have the majority of people believe you because of how corrupted our brains are to false media. You can’t just say a program is going to shut down to the world just because you may not like it, and that causes a media uproar. And you almost never can trust the paparazzi anymore. I think social media is in fact hindering our lives today. I think people only have social media so that when they are bored, they can go on their phone and be occupied with social media. Social media should be just about getting to see what your friends are up to and what they are doing with their lives, not to see these mostly false media …show more content…
Now instead of texting, every single social media application has some sort of texting on there to text your friends or even try to let famous/popular people respond to you. You don’t even need to use normal texting anymore I mean why would you pay for texting, when you can just use Instagram direct messaging for example to text. The other big way is to get huge stories out there and to communicate to people news around the world. If something tragic happens overseas or The Cubs win The World Series, social media is used in this way to communicate to people news around the world happening that you may not know
way for people to communicate, whether the rumor is false. He also tells us that when a rumor is spread, the message changes. Knapp makes it clear in his article that once a rumor has circulated, people will twist and distort the message, making rumors inaccurate. Knapp then explains that people believe rumors for three reasons - people feel the need to spread information, rumors supposedly provide us with information we need to know and rumors give people a “feeling”. It's the emotional need Knapp talks about that drives people to spread rumors. Knapp explains
DiFonzo tells his readers that rumors are “unverified information statements that circulate about topics that people perceive as important.” He tells us that rumors provide some type of information.
Social media has affected people negatively because people depend on social media more than their brain .Which does not bring any benefit to them .Our society has come from being very social to antisocial over the years. Many people don 't interact with each other anymore .We search, post ,tweet and snap not even knowing who we are sharing are information with . In his article “Mind Over Mass Media ,” Steven Pinker writes about the amount of knowledge and power social media is taking away from our brains .College students and high school students are likely to use social media to do their work assignments.Social Media is slowing taking the place of boosk and many other ways people learn. Therefore, I agree that social media is taking the
The fact that some people would actually believe the media just shows how lazy people get and want a quick easy fix before they even do any research of their own. Everyone wants to point out a culprit or “bad guy” if you will other than blaming themselv...
There is always an iota of truth in every rumor, even though it is a rumor. I had to defend my opinion.
That’s the thing, they are rumors, and none of it was true. But that still didn’t stop them from saying or believing them.
Social media has impacted everyone that has used it at some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media, which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for, such as doing research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally.
For all we know, social media has changed our lives forever. It gives us some opportunities that we did not have before. My social media use is very similar to that of Eva and Sara. We all use social media more as an observer to keep in the loop of friends and family. We are able to stay up updated to the second on everything that is happening in the world simply because of social media. Now we can only imagine what the future hold and how we will communicate
Social media although a great tool can become an addiction ultimately affecting our lives and state of mind. That is why we need to limit the amount of time and information we share on social networks. Although the internet is a tool full of good and bad available to everyone, teenagers and young adults are more prone to falling into the traps of the internet. People also abuse social media and overuse it every day because they are concerned with what is happening every hour. Social media is a tool not a necessity and should never be abused or used as a diary because it could result in unwanted consequences that can hurt us in the future.
With the way the world is now it should not be a surprise to anyone that social media has literally taken over the world in this day and age. From late 2008 to early 2009 the size of Facebook users doubled from 100 million to 200 million in eight months, and was already up to 400 million by early 2010. Twitter also raised its number of users in 2009 from 4.5 million to 20 million (Zandt). These numbers just show what Facebook and Twitter have accomplished. Other social media sites that are getting more and more popular are Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, and many others social media websites that people use on a daily basis. With one in four people using social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, it is no wonder that all of these social media websites are considered to be important (Whiteman). With a few clicks of a button or taps on a screen, a person can be connected to family and friends in every corner of the world. Social media can even allow people to see what their favorite celebrities are doing with their lives. According to Honor Whiteman,”Social media defines an array of internet sites that enable people from all over the world to interact. This can be through discussion, photos, video and audio (Whiteman).” Social media is a beast in its own right that is used by a multitude of people all over the world everyday for things such as updating their Twitter status for personal use to updating a company 's Facebook page on a weekly basis. Yes, there is no doubt about it, social media has done its share of very good things, but there is also an entire list of the negative things about using these websites that can really make a person question if they should even be on them. Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
Now most social media companies are buying out and merging with many other companies that will be off use to them. The people of society have certainly come a long way. Social media is influencing consumers on what they are going to buy next. Social media is helping businesses to become more aware of the impact they have on their customers. Social media has a big impact on an individual and a business.
The problem with social media is that it is becoming so big and a huge distraction. Studies show that fifty six percent of everyone in America has some sort of social media application. Considering babies and seniors probably don’t have access to a phone, this is a huge number. For the amount of individuals that have phones the percentage that have social media is quite high (insert amount of people). Not only has the amount of people on social media has increased, it will continue to increase for a very long time.
Nowadays, social media is growing very rapidly throughout the whole world. Social media has changed the way that we communicate with others through using these common social networking sites like Face book, Twitter, and Instagram…For that, social media has positively and negatively impacted our life.
Unfortunately, we have all been guilty of gossip at one time or another, and we have all been the victims of it too. I think there are three possible responses for when we encounter gossip. We could speak out, and kindly, but firmly tell the person that gossip is hurtful and that no one benefits from it. We could turn the conversation around by saying something nice about the person being talked about. Alternatively, we could walk away and not be a part of the problem by sticking around to listen. Gossip is wrong and we should uphold our beliefs.
