As one goes through life and tries to pursue one’s ambition one sometimes hits upon hopelessness. The poem Sarajevo Bear deals with ambition and hopelessness. Their ambition was so powerful that it overcome the hopelessness of the situation.
Ambition maybe defined as “A strong desire to do or achieve something typically requiring determination and hardwork. The people of Sarajevo’s ambition was to achieve independence for their country. It require to over power the Yugoslavian Army. In the poem, Sarajevo Bear, we see people feeding the bear to keep the bear alive, even though they have to
risk their lives in order to bring food for the bear. The bear represents Sarajevo’s hope and strong desire to achieve freedom, despite their sacrifice and efforts the bear dies. Even though, the bear died they kept preserving, till they achieve their goal. Hopelessness is explained as having no hope to achieve something. In the poem Sarajevo Bear, hopelessness is represented by the snipers that shoots to kill. The people continue to feed the bear eventually the snipers attack. When the bear dies, it should have broke the people spirit and their ability to function, but it does not. They instead stood up stronger and overcame the challenges of hopelessness.

enable us to understand the moral of the poem. Which is work hard and you will receive you goals and never give up.
This poem shines importance on going through thing s and how you have to start some place. I found this book very inspirational and it has refreshed my perspective on life. My people that came before me went through so much just so that I could even have to opportunity or ability to read this book and wright a review on my own.
The origin of ambitions and desires tells us more about the reason behind the goal which would play a role in how the goal is achieved and how strong the desire is. Shakespeare’s Macbeth’s desire to be powerful is reignited by Lady Macbeth when he seems to be more or less uninterested upon hearing prophesies from the witches. Macbeth quotes in fear “Present fears Are less than horrible imaginings; My thought, whose [...
Ambition is a force that helps drive societies forward. When the power of a nation falls in the hands of a single person ambition takes many spectacular and ugly forms. It can be both the making and destruction of that person but regardless of the net effect, ambition will have deep socio-economic, political, and cultural roots. Three dictators were taken by ambition and it pushed them into a costly, long, battle to obtain and maintain power. Those leaders are Macbeth, Idi Amin, and, Napoleon Bonaparte.
O. Henry once said, “The true adventurer goes forth aimless and uncalculating to meet and greet unknown fate.” The poem goes a lot a deeper than the words on the page, the items and decisions within it really make you see things differently. Three symbols really stuck out to me; adolescence, sadness, and timelessness.
The theme of this poem is that although things may be bad , if you keep your head up, and fight everyday for what you believe in, then you can achieve and make the future better. You must leave the past behind you, and you will achieve what you want in the future.
Ambition is a strong desire or drive to succeed or achieve something. It can help a person to strive at getting something they want. If someone wants something badly enough, their ambition will help them not give up until they achieve at getting what they want. But also, if a person has too much ambition, it could make that person do destructive things to get what they want and they will hurt anyone or anything that gets in their way.
Ambition is an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment. Some ambitions are consumed by wanting while others are induced by needs. In “A Walk to the Jetty” the character, Annie John ambition was to leave Antigua to be away from her parents. Annie John’s parents wanted her to have a better life after living in Antigua. They pushed her to venture to England to become a nurse. Her parents felt she would have more opportunities that would benefit her. In “Kewanuna’s Ambition”, the main character Kewauna had a more impelled ambition. Although Kewanuna had a jagged life, she endured too well in school and was determined to overcome her struggles. Kewanuna was passionate about learning. She also had an aggregated strategy that helped her during her college class. For example, Kewanuna had a biology
Purpose: The purpose of this poem is to show that people are not always who they appear to be. Moreover, the people that seem to have it all may still be emotionally unstable and act irrationally such as committing suicide.
This anxiousness later subsides to a hopeful resolution towards the end of the poem. In hard times, one must find himself/herself in order to overcome challenges. During this dark time, the poet explains the voice’s in one’s head begin to weaken and compares that to stars which “began to burn through sheets of clouds” (lines 25-26) using imagery and a metaphor. Another use of figurative language was the comparison of a “...road full of fallen/branches and stones,” (lines 21-22) referring to life’s obstacles. Towards the end of the poem, the tone shifts from an overwhelming amount of pressure of other’s voices to a hopeful resolution. The voices that surround whomever the poem is speaking of begin to fade and “little by little/as you left their voices behind,” (lines 23-24). One might gather that the overall all theme is that inner strength is necessary in order to move forward. The last words the poet wrote were crucial to the understanding of the poem. The person in this poem had completely turned their life around. This person had realized the only thing left that they could do: “determined to save/the only life you could save,” (lines 35-36). The only life which could be saved was their
It is the ambition that drives an individual to accomplish their goals, ambition is a much more positive trait than negative without it nothing positive would ever get done. “Ambition is a major driver for personal growth and
Ambition is what drives people to accomplish great things. Without it, nothing great would ever get accomplished. It is more positive than negative. People who want to be more, know more, do more, give more or have more, have a powerful internal drive that leads them to dream big and get further in life. Their ambition drives them to accomplish their goals. (The Remarkably Positive Power of Ambition by Peter Economy). This evidence partially supports my claim is because, the evidence is explaining why and how ambition is beneficial to us. Ambitious people have a gleam in their eyes as they approach their goals. They vibrate at a higher level and have a contagious enthusiasm about accomplishing things. They inspire and motivate others. (The Remarkably Positive Power of Ambition by Peter Economy). People who are ambitious will get further in life because, they are accomplishing their goals one step at a time. Others can get motivated and do good by seeing someone accomplish their
As renowned Greek philosopher Heraclitus put it, “Big results require big ambitions” (Heraclitus). Ambition, the very thought of the word brings a dissatisfied taste in millions of people mouths. But why does this virtue have such a horrific label? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that ambition has inspired some of the world’s most powerful and influential human beings, whether from India or America, preacher or intellect, nun or slave, ambition has helped shape and reshape our planet and continues to build legacies, modern marvels, and motivate massive change. If you really think about it, ambition is a perfect combination of every virtue from determination to patience to kindness. So why do we continue to hold on to this imaginary idea that all ambition is selfish and unnecessary. We have to eradicate this idea and get back to the basics and realize that ambition is unselfish, necessary, and beneficial to every single man, woman, and child. Ambition is a fundamental virtue that has helped shape our culture, historical heroes, and even some of the world’s most dominating religions. We should take a good look at our history and realize that ambition is something we should aim to attain again.
