Sandy Skoglund
Sandy Skoglund has been in the forefront of contemporary art in the United States, as well as overseas, for nearly two decades. Her dramatic impact to the art world didn’t begin overnight. After sheer dedication to art education she received her BA degree in Studio Art in 1968 from Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts. Upon getting her BA, she pursued further education at the University of Iowa where she received her MD. With her remarkable educational background, Skoglund decided to expand her horizons by teaching. Her teaching career grew at a rapid pace and she found herself teaching at the University of Hartford from 1973 to 1976. In late 1976, she was offered a position at Rutgers University, New Jersey, and has been teaching there ever since.
She has been giving her expertise in the form of photography and the art of installation and multi-media for fourteen years now, and she doesn’t plan on giving it up anytime soon. As Skoglund began to see that the sky was the limit, along with teaching, she decided to experiment with illustration and commercial images. The advancement in these areas had been a lifelong dream. Merely overnight, Skoglund’s career blossomed and her sole purpose in all of this was to make people see and feel her brilliant expression in a way that they could easily relate to. Over the years Ms. Skoglund has created an art that seems to bash modern day reality as we know it.

The American Academy of Art possesses an interesting background. Frank Young Sr. dreamt of creating a school that would “provide the best instructors, attract the best students, and neglect nothing that will help them to build successful careers.” In 1923, Young decided to turn his dreams into reality, thus creating The American Academy of Art (AAA). The school was originally designed as a school to offer Associate's Degrees in commercial arts, but with the help of the current owner and president of AAA, Richard H. Otto, the ‘Bachelor of Fine Arts Program’ was established in 1992 (“About the Academy”).
Volcanoes have always been a mysterious wonder of the world. Volcanoes have shaped the landscape and the very ground that we all live on. People have written stories of their disastrous eruptions, and painted their marvelous shapes on canvas. The essay will outline some of the more famous volcanoes and how they have impacted are history. No other artist has ever made as extended or complex career of presenting herself to the camera as has Cindy Sherman. Yet, while all of her photographs are taken of Cindy Sherman, it is impossible to class call her works self-portraits. She has transformed and staged herself into as unnamed actresses in undefined B movies, make-believe television characters, pretend porn stars, undifferentiated young women in ambivalent emotional states, fashion mannequins, monsters form fairly tales and those which she has created, bodies with deformities, and numbers of grotesqueries. Her work as been praised and embraced by both feminist political groups and apolitical mainstream art. Essentially, Sherman’s photography is part of the culture and investigation of sexual and racial identity within the visual arts since the 1970’s. It has been said that, “The bulk of her work…has been constructed as a theater of femininity as it is formed and informed by mass culture…(her) pictures insist on the aporia of feminine identity tout court, represented in her pictures as a potentially limitless range of masquerades, roles, projections” (Sobieszek 229).
Fortunately, during the eruption of 79 AD, there were firsthand reports describing the volcano in detail, written by Pliny the Younger – an author of ancient Rome. The people near Mount Vesuvius did not expect the eruption, and when the eruption occurred, not everybody left the area. The eruption lasted approximately 24 hours. Pliny the Younger observed the volcano from afar and reported that the dark cloud of ash released from the volcano blocked all light from the sun, making it darker than night. Despite the rain of ash and pumice at the beginning of the eruption, this was not necessarily lethal for the nearby civilizations. However when the ash mixed with rainwater, it formed a concrete-like rock which covered the towns and people of Herculaneum and Pompeii, and even preserved them to this day. As the eruption continued, it was the pyroclastic flows – fast moving currents of gas and rock – that completely destroyed anything in its way (Wallace-Hadrill). Although the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD had a disastrous effect for the surrounding area, it was an even more devastating loss for the
Pompeii, a town in Naples, Italy was built in 600 B.C.E. It housed around 20,000 people and was a busy port city for the ancient Romans.Nearby Mount Vesuvius, which is 7 miles away from Pompeii, stood 6,500 feet high. Pompeii became covered in ash by a volcanic explosion from Mount Vesuvius. This eruption also caused devastation in other cities like Herculean and most of the surrounding countryside. The eruption happened on the twenty-fourth through twenty-fifth of August, 79 C.E. The eruption took around 25 hours to cover the city. There were signs that the volcano was ready to erupt since there was a major earthquake that had happened 17 years beforehand and smaller earthquakes happened in the years just before the eruption. The town of Pompeii was only discovered around 300 years ago by archaeologists and excavated in 1748. The ash covered everything and the town people's casts are still there, more the shape of their body and not their actual

Mount Vesuvius is a volcano near the Bay of Naples in Italy. The volcano is hundreds of thousands of years old. It has erupted over 50 times. The most known eruption took place in 79 A.D. In 79 A.D. Mount Vesuvius erupted onto the city of Pompeii. One witness wrote that the volcanic ash “poured across the land” and covered the city in “a darkness… like the black of closed and unlighted rooms.” When the volcano erupted it killed around 2,000 people. Even though the volcano covered the city in a thick layer of volcanic ash and lava, in 1748 a group of scientist found that after you dug through the layer of ash the majority of the city is still intact. This wasn’t the first major eruption the volcano has dished out. In 1780 B.C. it erupted and
Pompeii was slowly recovering from a major earthquake that rocked the city in February of A.D. 62. The shallow quake, originating beneath Mount Vesuvius, had caused major damage to the springs and piping that provided the city’s water. Reconstruction was being carried out on several temples and public buildings. The historian, Seneca, recorded that the quakes lasted for several days and also heavily damaged the town of Herculaneum and did minor damage to the city of Naples before subsiding. The major quake was followed by several minor shakes throughout the following years. [Image Gallery: Pompeii's

Of all new advancements, the digital space arguably has the most outstanding effect on illustration, encroaching on our reality and the meaning of physical space within the field. As the digital space expands and further accommodates more aspects of the global illustrator’s life, we may come to a point (or are already at the point) where there is novelty in the restricted physical space; in a physical artwork, studio or gallery. It has changed the playing field and the rules of the game- knowledge and new innovations are developing rapidly, with a possibility of overtaking tradition through convenience. Not only has digital technology affected how illustration is received and displayed, but also how it is created- in the proliferation of digital
In regards to PC protection software, all company computers and all employee-owned computers that are used to access company network and/or files should have company-sanctioned PC protection software. Companies should install wide-ranging security software that includes anti-malware, safe browsing, firewall, and possibly other security capabilities (NSA). If possible, companies should provide laptops for work-related tasks only and prevent employees from using those laptops for personal use. These types of policies can limit the number of malicious items that find its way onto the laptop by restricting access to content unrelated to work (NSA). To ensure employee-owned computers have the same protection as company-owned computers, businesses should provide the same software for

We as a company have a responsibility to protect not only ourselves but also our clients information. This recent hack as interrupted our business relationship with clients and partners. I think that it is time for us to change our strategy on how we protect customers. McAfee being a company that has been around for years and shares the same values as us, it makes perfect sense for us to choose them to represent not only our company but protect it.
“I have already intimated to you the danger of parties… and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of [political parties]” (George Washington, Farewell Address). The American government is corrupt. The use of political parties is the downfall of the country. Political Parties have been present in American politics since the country was first formed. In fact, one of the two major parties in America, the Democratic Party, is the oldest party to still exist in the world. Aside from the Democratic Party, the second biggest party in America is the Republican Party. These two parties have rivaled against one another since the beginnings of America. Each was originally formed based on the arguments and beliefs of the Federalists
