Master of Education in Social Justice Education
Statement of Intent

I recognize the tremendous efforts some organizations, institutions, school boards, individuals and educators alike have been making to ensure a safe, inclusive classroom where every child is treated with respect and dignity - however this type of change needs to occur globally, to reach every nook and cranny of the world, to not leave any child out. The basis is there, but it’s still not enough.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

All too often one is viewing and experiencing everyday life through a lens. They go through the motions, happily - blinded - living freely. Being born and raised in Canada, I don’t know what it’s like to voluntarily or involuntarily leave my home country due to migration or unrest. I don’t know what it’s like to flee in the middle of the night, leaving all my possessions behind in the hurry. I don’t know what it’s like to never get the chance to say goodbye to someone I’ll never get to see again. I want to be surrounded by like-minded individuals and engaging professors in order to help seek out the questions and answers to help solve these problems that have in part to do with social justice and education. I’m very keen on the social aspect of injustices in the sense that I often wonder how it’s gotten to be this way. A place where not everyone is safe, not all opportunities are created equal, and that it being born in a specific location can drastically your outcome. Don’t mistake my wonderment for ignorance or naïveté; I know this is the world we live in. Our experiences define us. You can’t change anyone, they have to want to change for themselves. However, with education you have the keys to unlock a different future, to see what opportunities lie ahead. With education, you can change the
