Salva’s Survival
Salva was left alone. No one was there. He was just, alone. Salva had to learn to survive in the outdoors but he didn't know if he had the courage or the strength to survive by himself. One afternoon Salva woke up with his stomach growling. “Food, I need food”, he said. So Salva set off to find his lunch. On his way to find food he heard some unfamiliar sounds behind him. When he turned around to see where the noise was coming from he saw a great big bear and that bear was eating a huge fish. “Fish”, he thought excitedly! Salva wondered for a while where would the bear have found fish in a land that seemed barren and dry. He looked around and saw nothing but land. As he continued to search

After finding the lake he knew he would have to rashon his food and water. He would need to be precise about the amount of food and water he would consume in a day. Now with a full stomach, Salva searched through the area surrounding the cave to uproot any other food he could store for the next day. As the long day came to an end, the sun began to get dimmer. Salva’s efforts began to make him very tired. He staggered back to his cave and plopped himself right on the ground and quickly fell …show more content…
But then he assumed it was just the wind in the trees or his mind playing tricks on him. As he sat a little longer he heard it again. “SALVA”! As Salva began to search where the sound came from he finally met eyes with his father. He couldn’t believe it. Was this for real? Yes, there was his father jogging quickly towards Salva. As Salva realized that he wasn’t dreaming he began to sprint towards his father. When they finally came together Salva jumped into the arms of his father. They missed each other so much. Salva’s father explained that the rest of his family was safe and healthy. Salva was so relieved that his father was alive and they were finally reunited and he wasn’t alone anymore. Salva was overcome with happiness and joy to be with his family again after such a trying experience in the
When Salva was alone thousands of boys had followed Salva. Salva managed to help guide the group of boys through the desert one step at a time and try to provided them food. In chapter 13 it says, “Crowds of other boys followed him. nobody talked about it but by the end of the first day Salva had become the leader of the group of about fifteen hundred boys.”(80) This quote shows that Salva became responsible and compassionate enough to help the group of boys survive through the desert one step at a time following the steps of what his uncle said and did and not feel doubtful about his
He was determined to find his family, no matter how hard it was. One piece of evidence to prove this is on page 52, it said, “ The sun was relentless and eternal: There was neither wisp of cloud nor whiff of breeze for relief. Each minute walking in the arid heat felt like an hour. Even breathing became and effort…” This confirms that even though the weather is blazing and super hot, Salva kept walking. This supports the theme because he had perseverance to keep pushing himself, and Uncle supported him too. Also, on page 80, the text mentioned, “ They were traveling through a part of Sudan still plagued by war. The fighting and bombing was worse during the day, so Salva decided that the group should hide when the sun shone and do their walking at night.” This demonstrates that Salva still tries to find a way to guide the group to safety. He is determined to keep the pack moving. Finally, on page 110 it remarked, “ A step at a time. One problem at a time-just figure out this one problem. Day by day, solving one problem at a time, Salva moved toward his goal.” This explains how Salva works to solve problems and achieves his goals. This supports the theme because Salva has perseverance to help his people. This is how Salva has perseverance and goes on a long journey to find his
Imagine, hot sand, no shoes, very little water, and starving in the desert with barely any hope for survival, this is what Salva had to go through everyday. Salva is a character that must endure these harsh problems in Linda Sue Park's novel, A Long Walk To Water. Salva is a young boy from Southern Sudan, who has to run away from his home and family because of the war. Salva must face many challenges that will make him stronger. The factors that were helpful for the survival of Salva in a harsh environment was a drive to find his family, he was quick witted, and his Uncle.
In conclusion, this was an awesome story. The above questions were the catalyst to the real truth that would make the brother to that little girl free at last. His son was determined to break the cycle and remedy this generational condition, although the means by which he used were terrible. But, he would get through to his father. He shed light in the dark place by first beating his father into sobriety, so that he could think clearly. He then helped his father to open up to the discussion concerning the secret he had held on to for so long. Then, he also convinced his father to burn the “Shawl” of his deceased sister. And finally, his father realized what the true story was. A story that would in turn loose the tie that bound them all together with generational sorrows.
When the Sudanese civil war reached his village in 1985, eleven-year-old Salva became separated from his family and must walk with other Dinka tribe members through southern Sudan and Ethiopia in search of safe haven. One of the challenges Salva and the rest of the Dinka tribe faced was the Akobo Desert. I believe that Salva survived crossing the Akobo Desert mostly because of his personal qualities, such as bravery and persistence, and that luck had little to do with his survival. One example of this is when Salva had “stubbed his bare toe on a rock, and his whole toenail fell off”(53). Although the pain was terrible Salva continued walking, but began to large behind the group. His Uncle had noticed him falling behind and encouraged him to
Early in the film , a psychologist is called in to treat the troubled child :and she calmed the mother with a statement to the effect that, “ These things come and go but they are unexplainable”. This juncture of the film is a starting point for one of the central themes of the film which is : how a fragile family unit is besieged by unusual forces both natural and supernatural which breaks and possesses and unites with the morally challenged father while the mother and the child through their innocence, love, and honesty triumph over these forces.
Many people around the world have experienced a loss of family due to tragic wars. In A Long Walk to Water, written by Linda Sue Park she shows how Salva loses his family and friends and is depressed from the tragic war that threatens his survival in Southern Sudan. The factors that made survival possible for Salva was his persistence and determination, his ability to preserve food, and show caution in dangerous situations.
The man's feet sank into the water. Although the water was not deep, his legs all the way up to his knees were soaked. The man had become annoyed because the accident has now caused him to delay his arrival at the camp. He would have to build a fire to dry himself and his clothes. He walked over to some small trees, that were covered in snow. In their branches were pieces of dry grass and wood. He put several large pieces of wood on the snow, under one of the trees. On top of the wood, he put some grass and dry branches. He then took out his matches, and lighted the fire. To keep the fire growing he added more and more wood. He then rested for a while and continued to on his way to the mining camp. After a while he stopped to start his second fire, which did not really turn out so great because he leaned up against a tree to cut the string from his boots. He did not notice that his fire was under a branch covered in snow, so leaning against it caused the tree to shake and eventually the snow fell and put the fire
On Salva’s quest to different refugee camps, he lost all his loved ones, including his entire family except his father. Salva was at school when the unthinkable happened: an ambush. Out of nowhere, all they heard was “Crack! Pop-Pop-Crack! Ack-Ack -Ack! Gunfire!
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you failed to survive? To survive and see Salva´s family was very difficult that involved the ability of adapting, positive attitude, and to have great motivation.
It felt so dragged out because all I wanted was to see him and tell him the news. Our connection felt different, phone calls were made shorter and they weren’t as frequent. I missed him. Two nights had gone by without a phone call or even a message. This wasn’t typical of Luke. I was becoming increasingly worried. I tried to distract myself from the situation and went to Atlanta to visit my parent’s for the weekend. This provided a distraction from my despair. When I arrived home, the flat fell silent. I sat aimlessly on the sofa, starring at the telephone, hoping that maybe it would ring. I tried turning my television on but I was oblivious to anything around me. I didn’t know what to do with myself. I knew something was wrong. Fifty-five minutes passed, as I stared at the phone. That was when I heard it

As I walked in to their bedroom, I found my mother sitting on the bed, weeping quietly, while my father lay on the bed in a near unconscious state. This sight shocked me, I had seen my father sick before, but by the reaction of my mother and the deathly look on my father’s face I knew that something was seriously wrong.
She slammed the door behind her. Her face was hot as she grabbed her new perfume and flung it forcefully against the wall. That was the perfume that he had bought for her. She didn't want it anymore. His voice coaxed from the other side of the door. She shouted at him to get away. Throwing herself on the bed and covering her face with one of his shirts, she cried. His voice coaxed constantly, saying Carol, let me in. Let me explain.' She shouted out no!' Then cried some more. Time passed with each sob she made. When she caught herself, there was no sound on the other side of the door. A long silence stood between her and the door. Maybe she had been too hard on him, she thought. Maybe he really had a good explanation. She hesitated before she walked toward the door and twisted the handle. Her heart was crying out to her at this moment. He wasn't there. She called out his name. "Thomas!" Her cries were interrupted by the revving of an engine in the garage. She made it to the window in time to see his Volvo back out the yard. "Thomas! Thomas....wait!" Her cries vanished into thin air as the Volvo disappeared around the bend. Carol grew really angry all of a sudden. How could he leave? He'll sleep on the couch when he gets back. Those were her thoughts.
He just threw his advise and vanished as if he was an illusion leaving behind one single evidence of his subsistence - the dried goat’s blood over my face. The short man stayed there longer canvassing the blade in his hand by his eyes covered with alternating glimpse of hesitation and clouds of tenaciousness. I stayed on obnubilating in my shelter until he commenced moving away. Subconsciously, I found me propelling myself up and over with the world around me turning upside down. I felt so weak but my enthusiasm kept me persuading this deep wish of following him.
