In this article, Sally Buchanan-Hagen chooses to tell about a time in her life when she wishes she was more aware about mental health. She explains how she had her first depressive episode when she was 14 years of age, and how four years later she had her first hypomanic along with manic episodes. She tells the sad truth of not even knowing what depression was when she was in high school and that she always used to feel unhappy all the time, wanting to die.
