Saint Leo's Core Values In The Workplace

The learning experience that I’ve had over the past several weeks has been continuously beneficial and effective. I consistently implement my social work course content and skills into my advanced clinical practice at my practicum. I’ve also consistently demonstrated Saint Leo’s core values at my placement through personal development, supervisory training, and interaction with clients. It is essential that social workers utilize their professional skills, knowledge, and feedback for personal growth and development. Demonstrating effective oral and written communication with clients through various types of assessments and interviews will allow me to obtain the skills that I need to effectively assist individuals, families, groups, organizations,

and communities.
In week one, I completed several behavioral assessments (BHA). This allowed me to have more direct contact with each client to better understand their presenting problem. In the earlier weeks, I have had direct contact with clients, but only through reassessments, intake assessments, and individual crisis interventions. My supervisor allowed me to take my time and ask questions during each interview. As I conducted each BHA, my supervisor implemented feedback so that I can adhere to the policy and procedures of the agency. My responsibility as a social worker is to assist clients with their problems and assist them in determining the best treatment plan and intervention that they can adhere to. According to Saint Leo’s Core Values, social workers are to listen, learn, and serve in their communities to promote the quality of social services.
In week two, I attended several supervisory meetings along with my practicum training throughout the week. My supervisor expressed that individual and group training is essential in my learning experience as a social worker. On the first day, several of the students in the training discussed their learning experience with different clients and identified the areas that they could improve in while working with clients. On the second day, several of the students engaged in role play demonstrations to promote professional development in order to provide effective services for each client. As interns, we must engage in continuous learning opportunities to effectively assist individuals, families, organizations, and communities.
