Safety is one of the biggest problem at large gathering events such as cultural festivals, music concerts, marathons, and churches. There have always been mass shootings, terrorist attacks. People have been afraid of going to the large gathering events since terrorist attacks of September 9th 2001. “For events like ours we’ve been updating our security since 9/11”, said Less Smith (Fenton and Nayan). People have been scared of going to the event with large gatherings because of these terrorist attacks. The biggest thing for police is to make sure that people are safe, and are enjoying their time at the event. “The biggest thing for police department is we want people to enjoy the event. We want to do our part to make sure it’s safe” (Fenton and Nayana). This shows that police department always tries its best and make sure that everybody is safe and having a great time, enjoying the event. Safety is one of the biggest obstacle at large gatherings and events, in order to make these large gatherings safe, there is a need of more security, such as police officers, searches of personal items, such as backpacks, and public itself also plays a big role by cooperating with police department in any condition.

...thon race say that, “You will see added security out there: Police will be checking the course overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Police dogs will do bomb sweeps of local streets before the runners take off”’ (Cohen). Searching the event area before the event and during the event makes it safer, and it eliminates doubts of the people and the police department itself. Public has always played a big role in the large gathering events. When public cooperates with police department, it makes it easier for police department and for public too. So in order to make a large gathering event more successful and safer, public and police has to work together and make sure that everyone is safe and having their great time. This is also the revenge of attacks such as Boston Marathon bombing, Beirut bombing, and other bombings that took place in different parts of the world.
After 9/11 there was a great increase in security nationwide. One major example of this is the number of agencies created as a result of 9/11. Among these agencies include the creation of the TSA (Transportation Security Administration), the DHS (The Department of Homeland Security), the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and lastly the massive advancement of the US Coast Guard. Every one of the budgets of these agencies has doubled since 9/11. The creation of the transportation and security administrations primary goal is to improve the safety of all American Citizens traveling by plane. The TSA started implementing, new policies and new technological advancements.
The impact of the hostage crisis during the 1972 summer games are even relevant in today’s world. Atlanta’s Olympics in 2006 was also attacked. A bomb was placed in an open are an exploded. Although the Atlanta games didn’t have as profound of impact on the world it did prove that security had improved. Some would say that the Munich Massacre is the gateway for more security as well as a highly trained security. CNN’s Senior Washington Correspondent Charles Bierbauer says “Munich was a watershed. In great measure, it has been since 1972 that the general public has submitted to security searches in airports, arenas and other public events -- and learned to live with the threat of terrorism” ().

...area. Researchers have realized that even though foot patrol did not exactly lower the rate of the crimes as they have hoped for, but they did realize that maybe people would not commit crimes in those areas if they knew that officers are around almost at every other corner and they would be easily caught right away. Also, in this article, it has been noted that close contact between police and the people helps the former develop first-hand information about crime and possible criminal behavior. Information system such as this is more likely to have a positive long-term impact.
Everyday law enforcement personal have the possibility to face dangerous events in their daily duties. In performing such duties a police officer could come by a seemingly ordinary task, and in a blink of an eye the event can turn threatening and possible deadly. When or if this happens to an officer they won’t have
First, the police constantly fear for their lives when dealing with situations in neighborhoods where the minorities outnumber the majority. This may cause the officers to be more likely to draw and fire their gun if they feel they have been placed in a life-threatening situation. What is the reason for this fear? Is it justified? Is there any possible way to correct this problem, or at least ensure that future generations will not succumb to the same misconceptions? These are all questions that must be answered before a conclusion is reached.
Why does the government make it harder for average citizens to protect themselves? Police cannot always protect everyone in the community. There are only about 500,000 police officers throughout the country, which means there is around 125,000 police officers on duty at any given time. Other than a bodyguard or a law enforcement officer at everyone’s side twenty-four hours a day, the most effective deterrent to a criminal attack is the criminal’s fear that the potential victim is armed and prepared to defend themselves.
With the 'unknown certainty' of terrorist actions and fan behavior, it is impossible to ensure a risk-free environment at America's sporting venues. Incidents will happen and emergencies will arise. It is a matter of how one prepares, responds, and recovers to mitigate the consequences of emergencies at a sporting venue. Sport venue managers need to be aware of risk assessment methodologies to detect threats, identify vulnerabilities, and reduce cons...
Police departments that use riot control or “crowd control management teams” all use different tactics that have many impacts both positive and negative on the community. The tactics used to control riots in the past were simple. The police were almost always better armed than the rioters. The tactics they used consisted of forming a line and charging into the crowd, then beating rioters into submission. Today, the police are still well-armed, but tactics have advanced drastically with a significant hope of preventing injuries.
Safety is a primary concern in the health care environment, but there are still many preventable errors that occur. In fact, a study from ProPublica in 2013 found that between 210,000 and 440,000 patients each year suffer preventable harm in the hospital (Allen, 2013). Safety in the healthcare environment is not only keeping the patient safe, but also the employee. If a nurse does not follow procedure, they could bring harm to themselves, the patient, or both. Although it seems like such a simple topic with a simple solution, there are several components to what safety really entails. Health care professionals must always be cautious to prevent any mishaps to their patients, especially when using machines or lifting objects, as it has a higher
Police safety is a subject that can be touched on more than once, and every time have a dozen different arguments and many different types of ways to look at it. Many police officers all over the country, is feared for their life because they feel like they’re under attack. In the news, every day it seems like another officer is being ambushed and killed. Public safety covers a wide variety of people and organizations, but carries one common theme and that is, the public’s safety. This course has broadened my knowledge on the many roles that make the public safety sector go around and the role the public plays in it as well. My thoughts before the course were close minded and to the point. I quickly realized that policing is not as cut and dry as I once portrayed it to be. Society is always changing and adapting, and it is the job of the those in public safety to adapt and change with it. The mindset that I grew up with, in rural Saskatchewan, was the police are good people and you will only need to deal with them if you break the law or see someone break the law. My answers in the module 1 survey reflected my upbringing. My first thought for
Good communication is essential to how well police officers interact with the public because it influences how the public responds to officers. Listening, speaking, writing and focusing on what others say are all ways officers can affect the way the public views them. A lack of these vital communications skills results in poor understanding, an officer not knowing how to proceed, and people who need police assistance giving up. Officers must also consider how communication might affect a community’s reaction. It is obvious that these traits are very important for optimal police work. Experiences show that people react more calmly and cooperatively when police officers treat them well. Therefore, good communication is needed in order to make the jobs of police officers easier and more positive.
When taking on the position as a Police Chief with a team of 150 sworn officers, it would be my duty to ensure the safety of my guys as well as to change order so that the community would have good communication with our department.
It’s true what everyone talks about safety – you are the key to your safety, when you do it safely you do it the right way and the best gift you can give to your family is to always stay safe. We have been taught by our parents and teachers to be cautious while doing a number of things. However, mishaps do happen everywhere in the safest of places, no matter how careful we are in our actions. It is highly unpredictable, what’s going to happen the very next instant. There are numerous incidences we come across like simple trips, falls, cuts due to sharp objects, burns or sudden worsening of a person’s health condition, causing
