There are three safety features in the egg project. The three safety features are seat belts, brakes, and airbags. The seat belts are made out of tape. The seat belts put pressure on the passenger. This means that it will keep the passenger inside the car instead of flying out and getting injured. The airbags are made out of bubble wrap. The bubble wrap will have a huge impact on the area of the passenger. It is like a soft cushion. This protects the passenger from hitting the passenger. The passenger will get hurt by the airbag, but not as much without one. If there wasn’t an airbag in a car, people would be getting into a second collision. A second collision is where the body hits the car. That is the whole point of an airbag. The brakes are made out of cotton balls. Seat belts that stay in rest stay in rest. Seat belts that are in motion stay in motion. For example, when a car is in motion the seat belt is in motion. When the car is at rest the seat belts stay at rest. An example for motion is when a driver is driving their car the seat belt is in motion. It is trying to put pressure on the passenger so they don’t get hurt. An example when a seat belt is at rest when the car is not moving at all. There is no pressure acting on the driver. Another example for motion is when someone hits the brakes. Pressure is developing on the body with the seat belts. That is why sometimes seat belts lock and the driver can’t go forward a lot. It is trying to pull back the passenger so it doesn’t get hurt by any objects in front of it. In order to create a seat belt I decided to use straws and tape. It started one day in a science classroom. That is where I learned about diffusion. Diffusion is the movement of a substance across a membrane, due to a difference in concentration, without any help from other molecules. (Unknown, 2) In the egg lab the egg experienced diffusion over the course of several days. During the lab I also learned about hypertonic solutions and hypotonic solutions. I learned about hypotonic solutions when we placed the egg in water which caused the egg to swell. This process can also be defined as osmosis which is the diffusion of water molecules across a membrane. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this experiment is to show the effect of different concentration of solutions and the amount of osmotic activity between the solutions and three 3 naked eggs. A naked egg has a selectively permeable membrane. Osmosis is the crossing of solvent molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration through a selectively permeable membrane. When the head is unprotected "the brain continues to move in a forward motion while the skull stops moving" (Macyko1), causing trauma. What is needed is a way to protect the brain "by absorbing the energy from the impact, buying extra time for the brain to slow down" (Macyko1). Bicycle riders need to wear helmets to protect their brains from injury, yet unfortunately the public is simply not aware of this need and many people will continue to die or be seriously injured unless something is done. Bicycle helmets save lives and should be required by Arizona State law for riders of all ages.
Egg Albumen Experiment The purpose of this investigation is to establish which is the lowest concentration of Copper (II) Sulphate solution that will denature a sample of egg albumen (egg white) at room temperature. The base of the reaction is the globular protein (albumen) being denatured by a heavy metal (Copper (II)), the copper (II) reacts with the NH3 group causing it to denature, this means the proteins' secondary and tertiary structures are being altered and refolding into different shapes, this resulting in a change from the substance being clear to turning opaque.[1] As the concentration of the denaturants increases more folding and changing of shape will occur and therefore more denaturing will occur and at a faster rate. From this I can predict that that lowest concentration of the solution is approximately at 0.03m solution.
