She wrote the books Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, Biography of a Giant Panda, Prairie School etc. The background of this story is in the mid 1800s, when thousands of pioneers traveled to the West in covered wagons to find a better life. Faith’s family was going to California in a covered wagon. It was May 1850. Josefina is a pet hen of Faith. She loved Josefina. At first her father disagreed with taking her, and didn’t want to take her. Because the hen was too old to lay eggs and too tough to eat. Besides, there was not a place to load even other loads.
