What would you sacrifice to get what you want? Romeo and Juliet are star-crossed lovers who experience a tragedy at the end of the book. The Capulets and Montagues have been in a feud for several years. It has kept Romeo and Juliet separated. Also, Lord Capulet arranged for Juliet to get married. He rushed the marriage as well. But in the end, the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet's death appears. Throughout the book, Lord Capulet is the one to blame for Romeo and Juliet's death.
First, Lord Capulet was one of the leading halves of the feud between the families. Lord Capulet hated the Montagues. The hatred between the two families kept Juliet and Romeo separated; until they finally met at the party Romeo wasn't even supposed to be. In the book, it says, "From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean," (Shakespeare 7). The feud had gone to shedding blood between the Capulets and Montagues. Separating the two lovers even

In the book, he says, "to county Paris, to prepare up him against tomorrow," (Shakespeare 189). Lord Capulet rushed the wedding causing Juliet's plan to fail. When Friar Lawrence heard the letter was not delivered he said, "within this three hours will fair Juliet wake, she will beshrew me much that Romeo has had no notice of these accidents," (Shakespeare 219). Juliet is a young teenager who wanted to take her life into her own hands for once, instead of her father's. In a Critical Essay on Romeo and Juliet, Lois Kershen wrote, "as a young girl practically restricted to her house by the social customs of her time, she has very little control over anything anyway." Lois Kershen wrote about how Juliet was cut off from the rest of the world by her father, not giving her the chance to do much of anything she wanted to do. All the actions made by Lord Capulet led to Romeo and Juliet's death because he wanted to be in control of
Did you know that Romeo and Juliet was one of the biggest love story of all time. Romeo and Juliet is a story of two star-crossed lovers from two families the Capulets and the Montagues. The Capulets and the Montague had a big fight that made the families very angry at each other. Romeo and Juliet decide to get married. The two couple marry and run away. In the process both of them will die. When it comes to Romeo and Juliet who are the top three people that caused the two to die. The two people that are chosen are Friar Lawrence and Lady Capulet. Friar was chosen because he is the one that married Romeo and Juliet. Lady Capulet was chosen because she is forcing Juliet to marry Paris which is making Juliet want Romeo even more. The third thing
Another character who is responsible for the deaths of the lovers in Romeo and Juliet is Lord Capulet. Knowing that her father would disagree with her being married to Romeo, a Montague, Romeo and Juliet were forced to keep their love a secret. In the beginning of the play, Lord Capulet tells Paris that Juliet is still to young to woo and that he should wait two years. However, later in the play, he tells Paris that Juliet will be married to him in two days. After hearing that she will be wed in two days, Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence asking for help. If Lord Capulet did not force Juliet to marry Paris, she would not have had to fake her death. The plan that Friar Lawrence devised to prevent the wedding led to death of Romeo and Juliet.
From the beginning of the book, it is shown that Capulet is a stubborn old man who, as the leader of the Capulet’s, hates almost all Montagues with a burning passion. His hate makes him want Juliet to marry Paris to get closer with the Prince who is angry at the
Romeo and Juliet are madly in love with each other and will go to any lengths to be together. To support my thesis that the conflict between the heads of the Montague and Capulet families is responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death, I quote from Romeo and Juliet (V, iii, 291-293) Prince: ". Capulet! Montague.
Both the Montagues and Capulets were upper-class families. Ultimately, the families’ hatred for each other rose from a strong aspiration to uphold their families pride, and neither family seems capable of overcoming the raging grudge that was amongst them. Within the patriarchal society, Juliet, as a young woman of the Capulet household, was ordered to marry Paris to attain their social status. The Capulets hosted a feast, arranging the official meeting of Juliet and
First of all, The Montague’s and Capulet’s hatred for one another shows another depth about how human errors create the setting of Romeo and Juliet’s death. If only both families had gotten along from the beginning, the two star-crossed lovers could have had a friendship from the very start. If the families were close when they were young, they could have grown up to realize that the two were in love. Juliet would have been able to tell her parents, and that way, they would have been ecstatic about the engagement. The reason this is their fault is because if they had been on civil terms with each other, the deaths wouldn’t have occurred. Shakespeare almost made it appear like the parents did it on purpose for them to have to go behind their backs. Romeo and Tybalt’s battle to the death was also fault of the families disliking each other, and if this conflict had not taken place, the wedding wouldn’t have been forced upon Juliet. In this case, she ...
In the prologue of the play, it is said, “From ancient grudge break to new mutiny” (I i 3) which means that the the two families, the Capulets and the Montagues, have been in a feud for an extremely long time, and the feud has recently caused fights and deaths. This is important because Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, fall in love that is destined to end tragically. Their love contends with the hatred that their families share towards one another. They knew that the were not to see each other and that if their parents or families found out that it would not have ended good and the consequences would be
The feud meant that they had to keep their relationship under wraps and tip-toe around their families. The ancient grudge between the two families meant that if one member of either family found out about Romeo and Juliet then they would be killed, ‘If they do see thee, they will murder thee.’ The family feud between the Montague and Capulet families could also be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because they both grew up with people dieing within the families because of the grudge. For instance Mercutio and Tybalt, Mercutio was a very loyal friend of Romeo’s and Tybalt was Juliet’s cousin. The deaths of these characters meant that Romeo and Juliet were both distressed and unhappy, and thus could have given more reason to their own deaths, ‘ A’ Thursday let it be, a’ Thursday, tell her,
Because of the Friar’s yearning to end the Montague-Capulet feud, the ultimatum imposed by Capulet to his daughter and their superficial relationship, and the Nurse’s support and betrayal, Romeo and Juliet chose to end their lives. The Friar’s desire to end the feud by marrying the star-crossed lovers, and his full confidence in his plans, were unwise and indirectly caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet’s disconnection from Juliet and his ultimatum causes Juliet to consider suicide as a way out of her situation. The Nurse supporting Romeo and Juliet’s marriage, only to betray her later, also contributed to their deaths.
Firstly, the Capulets and Montagues are at odds with each other. Members of each house and servants break into a sword fight, clashing with each other. Sampson says "Draw, if you be men. Gregory, remember thy swashing blow." (Act 1, Scene 1, Line 60). The feuding between the two families motivates Sampson to challenge the Capulets. Another example of how the two houses despise each other is what Romeo and his friends have to do to get into the Capulet feast. So they will not be recognized, Romeo, Mercutio, and Benvolio wear comic masks to hide their faces. Mercutio says, "Give me a case to put my visage in" (Act 1, Scene 4, Line 29). They do not want to be recognized because of the hatred between the two houses. Also, Romeo and Juliet are not supposed to be in love: "My only love sprung from my only hate! / Too early seen unknown, and known too late! / Prodigious birth of love it is to me, / That I must love a loathed enemy." says Juliet (Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 137-140). They are not supposed to love each other because it just so happens that each of their houses despise each other. It is unfortunate for Romeo and Juliet that their two families are against each other, because this means that they are not supposed to be married.
Tybalt’s death, according to the thoughts of Capulet, left Juliet struck with grief. Therefore, he agreed to allow Paris to marry his daughter, in order to supposedly restore her cheer. Juliet’s and Friar Lawrence’s ingenious, yet lethal, intentions spawned after Juliet decided to be independent and not trust the principles of her own family. While her parents strived for her happiness, the words, “I will drag thee on a hurdle thither” (III.v.160), brought too much agony for her to manage, as she knew that her only choice was to marry Paris. Conclusively, Tybalt’s death was the foremost influence of Lord Capulet’s desire to marry Juliet in Paris, intending to bring joy to her.
The hatred between the Montagues’ and the Capulates’ are also working against the couple. While Romeo and Juliet are seemingly deeply in love, the rest of their families were continually battling it out, with death usually being the end result. How could two lovers keep a relationship together with so much violence and hated without totally abandoning their families? I feel that this is another example that the couple wasn’t deeply in love. This hate is shown with several “battle” scenes between the two families.
Even though the prince banishing Romeo is one of the reason why he fails the lovers, the feud also come into place. The feud between the Montague and the Capulet is a separation between Romeo and Juliet love for each other. Since the prince knows what was happening between the two households, he never considered stopping the feud between them even though he knew about it because the feud was just about hatred and love and that the prince is powerless when it comes to hatred and love. "Some shall be pardoned, and some punished" (5.3.319). This is a law that he made that end up being broken by Romeo who is banished from Verona, They did not really care because it is hatred that is making them fight and love.
