A SWOT analysis is a tool used to identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities and threats (Kinicki & Williams, 2012). I recently had to complete a SWOT analysis for my program at work. The program I manage is a statewide program that offers advocacy, support, outreach and training to families that have children with a mental health diagnosis as well as those who provide services to them. The following is the SWOT I did for my program:
Strengths
What do you do well?
What unique resources can you draw on?
What do others see as your strengths?

Responsiveness to clients
We have a statewide presence
Provide advocacy in the education system

What could you improve?
Where do you have fewer resources than others?

Decreased funding

The strategy that I am working on right now is in response to the weakness of low parent support group participation. We must have a parent support group in each of the grand regions of Tennessee with eight core members each. My plan is to start with an online forum for each of the regions and then as the parents make connections with each other arrange events and opportunities for the parents to meet face to face.

Hello Ashton,
This is a very interesting post to me because I also work for a non-profit organization. I can also see where contractual issues would be a top threat. We depend on our contract with the state for funding. Sometimes it is hard to meet all of the contractual obligations because we do not have control over the environment and the outcome of our efforts.
