In her early years, Rosa Parks faced many challenges and struggles due to the color of her skin. She was born during the time where African American people were subject to unequal treatment and was affected by the Jim Crow laws of segregation with white and black people. The segregation included drinking from the water fountain, using the bathrooms, transportation, and education for whites and blacks. Due to segregation, Rosa dedicated her life to making a change for all people of color, and in 1955 she made history by refusing to give her seat on the bus to a white individual. After, moving in with James McCauley’s family and finding it difficult to raise Rosa in an overcrowded setting. Leona decided to move to Pine Level with her family (both played an important part in her life), her father disappeared, and Rosa didn’t see him until she was five years old and her brother (Sylvester) was three. According to Brinkley (2000), “Rosa recalled that her father stayed for several days and left again which she didn’t see him again until she was an adult and married. Growing up without her father around, Rosa relied on her mother for love and warmth as well as being partly raised by her grandparents. According to Kuria & Bohlander (2014), “Starting from birth, infants begin learning how to make sense of their world through interactions with caregivers”. However,

On one bus journey Parks was asked to move for a white person, she refused and the police were call and she was arrested and convicted of breaking the bus laws.

Life - Rosa Parks was born only a month before world war one started in Europe on February 4, 1913. Parks mother worked as a school teacher in Tuskegee, Alabama. James McCauley, Rosa's dad was a carpenter. They lived in Tuskegee and owned farmland of their own. After Sylvester was born, Rosa's little brother, her father left them and went off to live in another town. He had been cheated out of his farmland by a white man and couldn't support the family any longer. Rosa her mother and her brother then moved to live with her grandparents on a farm in Pinelevel, which lay between Tuskegee and Montgomery, Alabama. It was a small plot of land, but it kept them all fed. From this point on Rosa was mainly brought up by her Grandparents with the assistance of her mother. Rosa gave up school when she came close to graduating, around the same time Rosa got married. Raymond Parks married Rosa McCauley December 18, 1932. He was a barber from Wedowee County, Alabama. He had little formal education but a thirst for knowledge. Her husband, Raymond Parks, encouraged her to finish her courses. In 1934 she received her diploma from Alabama State College. She was happy that she completed her education but had little hope of getting a better job. When Rosa had finished school she was lucky enough to get a job as a seamstress in a local sewing factory. Prior to the bus incident Rosa was still fighting. She had run-ins with bus drivers and was evicted from buses. Parks recalls the humiliation: "I didn't want to pay my fare and then go around the back door, because many times, even if you did that, you might not get on the bus at all. They'd probably shut the door, drive off, and leave you standing there."

It even caused her to move to Michigan to become more of an activist for women. The fight against racism is linked to many more problems in the world. In the words of Dr. King: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” (feministactivism.com) This states that any unjust act can affect anyone all around the world. None of what Parks did was easy, but she set her mind to it and did it.
During this time period, Rosa Parks was known as “The Mother of the Civil Rights Movement”. Rosa Parks died on October 25, 2005 at age 92. Rosa parks felt that everyone should be free and everyone should have the same rights. Rosa Parks was able to read when she was little because she was born 50 years after slavery, in 1913. Her mother taught her to read when she was very little because she was a teacher (Interview with Rosa Parks). The school she went to was very strict about the way things were done. For example:
Rosa Parks was a member of the NAACP, lived in Montgomery Alabama, and rode the public bus system. In the south, during this time the buses were segregated which meant that black people had to ride in the back of the bus behind a painted line. White people entered the front of the bus and were compelled to sit in front of the painted line. Most buses at the time had more room for white riders who used the service less than the black ridership. Yet, they could not cross the line even if the seats in the front were empty (Brown-Rose, 2008). Rosa Parks made a bold statement when she sat in the “white section” of a Montgomery bus. She was asked to surrender her seat to a white man, but she did not move and was soon arrested. Her brave action started the Montgomery bus Boycott, with the help of the NAACP, none other than Dr. Martin Luther King’s leadership as part of the Montgomery Improvement Association. As its President, he was able spread the word quickly which brought national attention to the small town of Montgomery’s bus Boycott. The boycott was televised and brought so much attention that the United States Supreme Court ruled that segregation on public transportation was unconstitutional; a success spurring a more
Rosa Parks was an African-American women who was tired of being treated differently just because of her skin color. She was a very kind woman who fought against all the laws and segregation. Rosa was born in 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama and died in 2005 in Detroit, Michigan (RM, plc. "Rosa (Louise McCauley) Parks"4). She did something that broke the law at the time but it changed this place and its keeps being an impact to everyone now in present days (Armentrout, DavidArmentrout, Patricia. "ALABAMA: Rosa Parks."1 ). She was on a Boycott bus on December 1, 1955 when the bus filled up and the African-Americans were supposed to give their seat up to the Americans but Rosa didn’t (Badertscher 1). She was 42 at this time so she knew what she was doing and she decided to do it anyways ("Rosa Parks"1). When she refused to give her seat up they ended up taking her to jail because she was breaking a law at the moment (Badertscher 7). She went to jail for something unfair, she was tired of getting no respect and treated like if she nobody or nothing in this world.
In a century where the United States had experienced major change around the world, two world wars, and was in an ongoing arms race with the Soviet Union, there was change to be made within the nation as well. One of the first events to see Dr. King’s involvement in civil rights was December 1, 1955 when Rosa Parks, a civil rights activist, refused to give up her seat on a public bus to a white man. Rosa Parks was arrested for not wanting to give up her seat and was put in jail. Thi...
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This was a speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Even one hundred years after slavery was banned, African Americans were still being treated unfairly. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most famous leaders of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s. The Civil Rights movement was a movement of African Americans who felt that they were not being treated equally. There were also many other famous leaders and inspirations during the Civil Rights Movement. This movement was very important to the freedom of African Americans.
For half of her life, there had been laws and customs that kept African Americans segregated from the Caucasians. These laws allowed whites to treat blacks without any respect. These actions were never thought to be fair. Even as a child, Rosa protested against disrespectful treatment. Yet, it was very difficult to do anything about the law, when all the law makers were of white ethnicity.
Philanthropist, Oprah Winfrey, in her Eulogy, commends Rosa Parks as she will always be remembered for making history for African American people even if she has passed away. Winfrey’s purpose is to tell the world the difference Rosa Parks made not only for African Americans but to everyone else as well. She establishes this by utilizing tone, repetition and pathos in order to express that Rosa Parks left a mark in this world in such a courageous way.
This tour, sponsored by the University of New Orleans, is designed to spark interest in the history of the struggle for racial equality (Brinkley 233). While on the bus, the tour group discusses information about important events that occurred in the south during the struggle. They talk about the assassination of MLK and meet with members of the SCLC and SNCC in Birmingham. Though there are so many people to learn about the one story who captivated them all was Rosa Parks. It wasn’t until one afternoon when Brinkley was preparing a lecture that he realized that there had not yet been a biography written about Rosa Parks. Sure there are children's books and other books written about small parts of her life but not one that could really discuss the impact and background of Rosa Parks. That is when Brinkley decided to write the first non-fiction book about Rosa
Rosa has demonstrated co-dependency and toxic relationships. Within Rosa’s family we can see the intergenerational transfer of patterns (Doweiko, 2015, p. 329), and the weakening of the family structure. All of which has been a product of substance abuse and addiction. 4. Addiction to enabling-Rosa has willingly places herself as the Messiah/ or chief enabler and acted in a way that has made it possible for her children to continue chemical use while protecting her own use with the same methods (Doweiko, 2015, p. 319).
Physical development focuses on increasing the skill and performance of the body. The sequence of physical development involves firstly gross motor skills that require control of large muscles in the body, arms and legs. Gross motor skills are larger movements your baby makes with his/her arms, legs, feet, or his/her entire body. Physical and cognitive development are closely linked, especially during the early years. When most teens mature their frontal lobes continue to develop.
