The Christian Coalition of America is an organization that is involved in politics from the Christian perspective. They stand for Biblical principles, and they are pro-family. They work towards strengthening America. They believe that these days, Christians should take a stand in government more than ever before. Every four years there is an election to elect a new President of the United States. In some cases, if a President is well liked, they may be reelected to serve another term; but may only be in office for two consecutive terms (8 years). One of the few Presidents that held off a total of 8 years was President Ronald Reagan. He was the 40th President to be sworn into office, and at the time was the oldest to ever serve this country. When Reagan took office in 1980, he had many hopes and dreams to turn America into a great nation, and get America back on track. He fulfilled his goals and dreams for America and is highly regarded still to this day. He left office with great shoes to fill, and is looked back on as a great American leader. During his two terms as president, Reagan has had many major accomplishments/events while in office, such as signing of the Economic Recovery Tax Act, the Iran-Contra scandal, and aiding the United States in winning the cold war.
Out of the desolation of World War II sprang the Australian Committee for the World Council of Churches. This developed into the Australian Council of Churches which, in 1994, grew to be the National Council of Churches in Australia. The NCCA is 15 Christian churches, gathered from across Australia, who have embarked on a pilgrimage together . Ronald Reagan was a true hero to many Americans. He was a strong president who cared for this country dearly, and Reagan really proved this by his actions during his presidency. He also proved his love for country by serving in the U.S Army during World War II. There are many factors that cause biased opinions. Speaking personally, this excerpt has truly started to make me think more deeply on how the church relates to government and the systems that have been in use before the political activism seen among professing Christians today. Whereas before, I would say that there should be some amount of Christian morality put forth from within government. I now see that it does not have the power to change a nation and its people. Stead points out that the framers of the Constitution had a unique perspective on church and state because they had come out of a society where the church was run by the state. The King was the chief priest as well as the chief political ruler—something prohibited by God (2 Chron. 26). Therefore, the framers were those who supported a separation of duties: to paraphrase, they said “The government is there to protect the nation. The Church can do whatever it wants, as long as it is inside the bounds of the constitutional conditions.” (49)
This is no ordinary coalition. It included the American Civil Liberties Union, and the National Association of Evangelicals; People for the American Way, and Concerned Women for America; the American Muslim Council, and the American Jewish Congress; the Traditional Values Coalition, and B'nai Brith of the Anti-Defamation League. Integrating Faith and politics can be difficult. Arguments can be made for whether to have complete separation of faith and politics, or to fully integrate the two. A balanced middle-ground between separation and integration can be looked at also. Examples of each can be looked at in history. Complete separation of faith and politics has consequences (both positive and negative). Government that is separated from faith can be efficient, but very inhumane and controlling. Complete integration of faith and politics is influenced by God and the Bible, but it can be just as controlling as complete separation. Multiple disagreements in the Christian doctrine would also cause more challenges in the government. Having a middle ground where only some aspects of the government are influenced by religion can pose problems in certain areas. The middle ground could allow Christians to spread the Gospel (which is the goal of the church). When these three options are compared, one may see an option stand out as an obvious choice. The middle ground between separation and integration is where the church can both stay relevant in politics and participate in the great commission.
One reason religion needs to be pulled out of politics is because a majority of the public in America agree that churches need to stay out of politics. In fact, four-in-ten Americans think that there’s been too much expression of religion or prayer from our political leaders. In 2010, the majority thought that there was not enough religion, but the numbers have been switching sides from all political parties (Miller 1). Recent polls state that, “Slightly more than half of the public (38%) says that churches should keep out of politics” (Miller 1). If that is not enough facts to sway politicians, then they need to look at Americas young adults. About half of college graduates agree that there has been too much religion in politics, which is up 14% from a few years ago. 38% of people with some college education are also uncomfortable with the amount of religion used by politicians, which is up 27% in 2010 (Miller 2). If so many Americans are unhappy with politicians basing their affairs off of religion, and that tells you that something is wrong.

Despite being subjected to persecutions, we as a people, maintained a level of humanity and caring that usually far exceeded the surrounding civilizations. It is the Christians job to go out in to the community and present the gospel. This being said, the moral responsibilities and values set fourth by Christians are a building block for the community and the world. Once these things are established it becomes a giant circle. The people have direct impact upon the community and that community is what bonds the people. Moral responsibility and community are in many ways one in the same, they work together to unite, and activate the citizens of faith so that they can positively impact the political process, influence public policy and define the heritage of Christian values, principals, and morals.
