Romeo’s family, the Montague’s, and Juliet’s family, the Capulet’s, are rivals. When Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet ball, they immediately fall in love and secretly get married the following day. Not only can they not tell anyone about the marriage due to the family rivalry, but also due to the fact that Juliet’s father has already arranged a marriage for Juliet with another man, Paris. Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, kills Romeo’s friend, and as revenge, Romeo kills Tybalt, which leads to Romeo’s exile from Verona. Therefore, nontraditional and traditional versions of Romeo and Juliet enhance the theme of love conquers all. Romeo and Juliet is a classic love story that shows that no matter what, love conquers all. Traditional versions show how love conquers all, but their obstacles are not relatable to modern times. The conflict in nontraditional versions can be very relatable and understandable to modern day life, but can take away from the strength of the theme. In conclusion, no matter what version this movie is produced in, Romeo and Juliet is a genuine love story that shows how love conquers all.
