In Act II, Scene two the Balcony Scene where romeo and Juliet finally protest their love toward one another and see that they are in true love. This is one of the most important scenes because it show the love and a bond forming between the two young lovers. In the movie there were some differences and similarities. Some of the similarities are that the movie did stick with Romeo Leaving his friends behind at the part to go find Juliet. As well as the part of Rome jumps over the the Capulets garden steep wall. But there were a couple but not a whole lot of
As it is with any work that is based on something else, it is the differences as well as the similarities that make both the original and the inspired appealing. Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story continue to portray the common themes of hatred and violence. However, because Juliet and Romeo’s relationship is so altered by fate, they are less affected by the violence in their society than Tony and Maria are.
The language used in these two scenes is quite different. In Romeo and Juliet the majority of the scene is of the two lovers confessing their undying love for each other using beautiful language and many metaphors. They also discuss marriage and serious commitments to each other. In Westside Story, this scene is spent singing to each other, which I find, makes it more romantic but has less tension. They also don’t seem as serious about commitment towards each other.

Romeo and Juliet - Movie vs. Book & nbsp; Often times people say that William Shakespeare was and still is a legend. They are correct. It is amazing how Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet was written. centuries ago can be better than Franco Zefferelli's movie production of Romeo. and Juliet, which had much better technology to work with only decades ago. Although the movie appeared better, it left out some major parts. The play had better mood and plot details which made it much more dramatic and by far a better presentation of the. & nbsp; One major difference between the play and the movie occurs in mood. An example of this is the marriage scene. In the marriage scene of the play, Romeo and Juliet is very serious. The reader can tell this by the way the two speak. Romeo says that the Holy Words the Friar speaks can make something without an equal (Act II, Scene 6, Line 4).
To say a couple is star-crossed means that their relationship will not last and is cursed to not work out. However, this couple may have intense feelings for each other, but not be destined to be together. It is called star cross because people who believe in astrology think the stars control human feelings. That is of course an opinion and why Shakespeare wrote that Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers.
Love is a beautiful thing, it always works out in the end. Everyone is always happy and no problems occur. West Side Story, a musical by Leonard Bornstein based on Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet parallels a love story of two star-crossed lovers. The play takes place in 1961 in New York City. This musical displays importance because it shows that nothing can overcome the power of love. This play is based on a love story between the main characters of Maria and Tony. Theses two are from different gangs that trouble to get along. They are from different gangs that do not get along at all. Roughly two hundred blocks make up Manhattan’s West Side, which stretches from Central Park West to the Hudson River. For the most part, the street youths
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story share many similar themes. Romeo and Juliet both chronicle a story of overcoming prejudice and hatred, forbidden love, and defying stereotypes that nobody thought could be broken. The two stories are similar in a multitude of ways, even though their settings are centuries apart- Romeo and Juliet set in the 1500’s, and West Side Story set in the 1950’s. Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both teach a lesson of how prejudice can teach you how to hate, and how one of your rivals may be the one who helps you remember how to love. In both Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, prejudices are so strong between two distinct groups of people that the hatred is passed from generation to generation, always against the same rival group.
Paramount aspect of the movie and the play, the theme, were the same, and the overall messages in both were the same. For example, one main message in the stories was that love conquers all. This was demonstrated in both the play and the film when Romeo and Juliet kept secretly meeting each other even though they knew it was against their families’ wishes. In one scene of both the movie and the play Romeo and Juliet even got married and died together so that even if they could not be together on earth they would be together in death.
Romeo and Juliet, a story of a tragic romance between two young lovers. And within the story you find that it is different from the book to the movie. While reading the book you notice some differences between it and the movie. While watching the movie you see one difference and it is that instead of swords like the book they have guns and they called them swords. They did this as a result of the movie is in a more modern time than the book. Another difference is when Mercutio is making Romeo go to the party. In the book he talks him into going to the party. In the movie Mercutio made him take a tablet or pill of some kind to make him go. Still the same as the other difference, still in a more modern era.
William Shakespeare has provided some of the most brilliant plays to ever be performed on the stage. He is also the author of numerous sonnets and poems, but he is best known for his plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Romeo and Juliet. In this essay I would like to discuss the play and movie, "Romeo and Juliet", and also the movie, Shakespeare in Love.
The two main characters of these texts are deeply in love, but their different backgrounds and races separate them. In both texts they show that love is the strongest force that nothing can pull two lovers away. The Puerto Ricans and the Americans in West Side Story represent the modern day version of the Montagues and the Capulets and in both texts the lovers are separated by something physical. In Romeo and Juliet they were separated by the balcony and in West Side Story the bars became a barrier for Tony and Maria. These physical separations both appear as an obstacle between two lovers while they confess their love to each other. Both Juliet and Maria called back into their rooms by a woman and they turn away from their lover wanting more. A technique used to display the young love happening between the characters of West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet is portraying the idea of innocence in Maria and Juliet. Maria’s innocence of being young and unaware of the idea of being in love can be seen through her attire of wearing white, whereas Juliet’s innocence comes from the idea of jumping into a relationship and moving too fast. In both texts the lovers meet through a dance they are reluctant to go initially go to and they fall in love at first sight. A technique used to emphasise the two’s meeting in the similar texts is the use of lighting and as if everyone around them disappeared for a second. Throughout these texts, love has played as the main theme and has seemed to show from the beginning right to the end as at least one of the lovers are killed off by
One of the greatest questions addressed in both Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Love is the question "does love conquer all?" Should one follow his heart or should one conform to society's view as to what is proper? In the movie, love does in fact conquer all, but, in the play, it does not. In the play Romeo and Juliet decide to follow their hearts and they do not conform to society's wishes. Romeo and Juliet end up dead and the feud between the Montagues and Capulets is over. In the case of Shakespeare in Love, Will loses Viola but his love for her lives on as seen in his later writings. So, one could argue that in some instances love does indeed conquer all and, in other cases, it does not. Following the path of true love can be a tragic one as seen in Romeo and Juliet. As for Shakespeare in Love, both characters meet society's wishes and therefore return to their normal lives never being quite the same.
