Have you ever thought about if Romeo and Juliet truly loved each other? In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet confess their love to each other the night that they met. I don’t think that they truly actually loved each other, for many reasons. First of all Juliet has never really been exposed to men, Romeo just was madly in love with Rosaline, and they only met a few hours before. First off Juliet has never really been around men, except for family really. If she hasn't been exposed to men a lot before, then she probably doesn't understand the true meaning of love. They confessed their love the same exact night they met, but they have never even seen each other before that night. People may say that this is love at first sight, but how exactly does that happen. How can you start loving someone the first time you see them, how do you know that they aren’t a bad person, or have a bad personality? I don't believe in love at first sight, because if you really love someone you should know stuff about them, you should have spent time with them, make sure they are the person you want to be with. It just confuses me how you can start loving someone only hours after you met. Maybe others think that they do love each other but I just don't understand how they can call this true love. How do they know that this is love? They really don’t know what this is but they think that it is love. Romeo and Juliet don't truly love each other, for many reasons: Juliet hasn't been exposed to other men and relationships, Romeo was just recently madly in love with Rosaline, and they just met each other, the same night they declared their love. I think in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a good play, but i don't think the love Shakespeare is trying to explain is a real love. Throughout ‘Romeo and Juliet’ there is more than idealistic love shown, like the parental love from the Nurse to Juliet and the friendship Mercutio and Benvolio shared. This love had effects on everyone though because if Juliet and Romeo were known to be loved the feud between the houses may have been worsened and Juliet could've been left disowned if she had not married Paris. “But, as you will not wed, I’ll pardon you: - Graze where you will, you shall not house with me” (Act III: Sc. 5, lines 188-189).
By the end of the play, Romeo and Juliet have completely fallen in love, which ultimately led to their premature deaths; with their relationship beginning as lust and blossoming into love. While Romeo and Juliet's interest in each other starts off as just physical attraction, through spending time together and learning about each other, their relationship transitions into true love because of the constant fear of living without each other.
It’s often said that love at first sight is what occurred in this dismal story but you can not truly be in love until you have gotten to know the person and actually talked to them. When Romeo first saw Juliet he was already saying he was in love with her and didn’t even speak to her, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!” (I.V.52). When in actual, true love you must know the person. Juliet had just learned his name and she was already calling him her love, “My only love, sprung from my only hate!” (I.V.138). On top of that, they were just teenagers. Majority of all teenagers suffer from mood swings due to the hormones raging through their body. One day they’re angry the next they’re sad, so how could they have truly known what they have wanted? Yes, it is possible for teenagers to be in love, but it’s hard to tell whether it’s actual love. “One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun” (I.II.96) In that line he was talking about a girl he met before he met Juliet, Romeo was claiming he was in love with her, Rosaline, and he was really down about that sitatuion. “Is Rosaline that thou didst love so dear, / So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” (II.III.66-68) Friar Lawrence even pointed it out; if he was able to get over Rosaline that quickly then he did not love her. I believe Romeo is both right and wrong: unrequited love is painful, but Romeo does not truly love - as he is merely infatuated by a woman. Another type of love we are exposed to during the same scene is the love of Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet, as well as The Nurse, believes love comes from appearance, both physical and political, and has nothing to do with emotion. She shows this when she speaks favorably of Paris's looks and his nobility. She also shows that it is a superficial love by the way she treats Capulet when she publicly denounces him.
There was action and there was tragedy, but put it all together to make the perfect comedy and a perfect tragic story. William Shakespeare wrote the play Romeo and Juliet, said to be the finest written play in history, for its originality and it's many plots. This story will take you through a lot of mixed emotion and will show you what a true feud is. This story is laid out perfectly because of its true holding and both family's passion for their children. William Shakespeare wrote the story to show how Romeo and Juliet's love for each other will show their youth and immaturity. Their over reacting cost them their life. At such a young age they thought they could never love another being again, and so, " A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life."(Act one scene one)
In the play Romeo and Juliet there are many types of love present throughout the course of the story and involves many of the characters. These types of love include romantic, platonic or friendly, and finally familial. The most obvious type of love present in the play is the romantic love shared between Romeo and Juliet as their passion for each other is what drives the story; the first time we see their love is in the party scene where they share glances and ultimately kiss. See their love is what ignited the initial plot and there are more examples of this love in the play such as when they got married and the most important moment being when they killed themselves thinking their lover had died demonstrating their devotion towards each other.
One reason some people think that Romeo and Juliet is a true love story is because the whole play is a feet of love about two teen agers how fall in love, go to the grave together and bring two warring family’s closer together due to their love. What moss is saying is that it does not matter your age race or beauty if its love then it is true .Also Romeo and Juliet were defiantly in love because they were willing to lay down their own life for one another and the fact that they risked their parents finding out and shutting them out of the family or worse never being able to see each other ever again (even though they were already married). According to raven moss teen agers know what love is because they are more open mined than adults so there for more willing to accept love.
However, if he falls in love with just the sight of Juliet, there is no other reason he can claim to be in “love” with her, besides her beauty.
Despite what many people think, Romeo and Juliet is not a love story; rather a story of desperation and obsession. People have been reading Shakespeare for hundreds of years and several people have mistaken it for a love story, due to the fact that Romeo loves Juliet so much he is willing to kill himself when he finds her supposedly dead; she does the same when she wakes up to find him dead. But in fact, Romeo is more taken aback by her beauty than he is in love with her. Juliet is intrigued by the fact someone could love her because her parents are very unsupportive of her. When the two find each other, they immediately become obsessed, mistaking this for love at first sight.

During Scene I, Act ii, Romeo's friend, Benvolio tries to get him to go to the Capulet's party to help him get over Rosaline and meet other women Romeo gets very angry and emotional when he suggests this. “Now Romeo is beloved and loves again, / Alike bewitched by the charm of looks” (II 5-6). Before I discuss my modifications to the play and how I would go about directing my own version, the way I see the relationship between Romeo and Juliet should be looked at. In my opinion, the couple isn’t genuinely in love. They feelings they have for each other is pure lust, rather then a deep passionate love. I find it unlikely that they can know each other well enough and on such a personal level to have a lasting, meaningful relationship. One minute Romeo is entirely in love with Rosaline and the next Juliet comes in to the picture and Rosaline goes out of his mind entirely. Shakespeare made note of this, by having Friar Lawrence state a question about Romeo’s short love affair with Rosaline. ‘Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.’ (2, 3, 65-68)
