Based off of the statistics, the rate of teenage suicide has been rising since the 1500s. Many teenagers out in there are killing themselves over small things, and dating is one of them. People will say things such as, "Oh, they killed them self because of a stupid relationship." Well, yes, there are some teenagers who have done that. But, that gives people no right to be calling them stupid, or immature. Suicide is a big deal and it's something that cannot be ignored. Romeo and Juliet killed them self because they knew they couldn't handle being without the other, and teenagers today think like that, too. This is something I know very well.
Body Paragraph -
The age of suicide used to be more common in adults, but as the years passed it has

changed to be young teens. “…suicide rates were four times higher for adults (ages twenty-five to sixty-four) than for youths (ages fifteen to twenty-four) and eight times higher for the elderly (sixty-five and older) than for youths…Between 1950 and 1990, youth-suicide rates tripled (particularly among young men), while suicide rates for adults fell by 7 percent, and suicide rates for the elderly fell by 30 percent.” (Cutler, Glaeser, Norberg 2001) With that, we can conclude that the rate of teenage suicide had and most likely, still is growing. Seeing that it was written that teenage suicide rates started growing between 1950 and 1990, that doesn't mean there were't any teens who weren't killing themselves before then. Even though the number wasn't that large, that doesn't give us a right to ignore it. Romeo killed himself after seeing, who he had thought to be dead, Juliet laying in her tomb. He drank poison, killing him instantly. Then, shortly after, Juliet has awoken! She notices Romeo's dead body, noticed he drank poison. She refuses to go with the Friar, and a few moments later, stabs herself. Many events happened in this story that led up to this scene, some of them were gentle scenes while others were brutal. Juliet loved Romeo with all her heart, as did Romeo love Juliet with all his. They couldn't stand not being with each other, so when Romeo actually saw Juliet "dead", he must've thought death would be the only way to meet her again. This beautiful play takes place in Verona, where the two star-crossed lovers lived.
Romeo, heartbroken over his "love" Rosaline, and Juliet, an innocent girl. The two meet by fate, and instantly fall in love. This is where their lives started to go down, even though for them, they thought it was going to be the best thing ever! They split away from each other for the first time, but soon meet afterwards in the orchard, where Juliet's balcony is located. This scene is famously known as "The Balcony Scene". They speak to each other of love, kiss, and then finally- marriage is brought up. This makes everything even worse for them. Skipping a couple of scenes now, Romeo and Juliet are married now (Yay!), Mercutio is killed by Tybalt, and Tybalt is killed by Romeo. This puts their marriage in danger, because Romeo is …show more content…
banished. Juliet gets depressed about Romeo's banishment, and they spend their wedding night together, and he finally leaves. Right after that, Juliet is told by her mother, and is yelled at by her father that she has to marry Paris. Her father is brutal with his words, calling her names, and threatens to disown her if she refuses to marry him. This leads to her wanting to kill herself, but the Friar has a better plan. He explains to her this plan; first, agree to marry Paris and act happy. Then, when the night before the wedding comes, get rid of the Nurse and make sure she is alone in her room. Now, lastly, she has to drink this potion he gave her that will put her in a "death like sleep". Now, we should know the rest of the story! Romeo finds out that Juliet is "dead", and then goes back to Verona, and then the good stuff happens. Now, if you're wondering, "How does that have to do with this essay?" I have only one answer for you.
In the introduction paragraph, I mentioned one of the reasons why teenagers would end their life at this young age: Relationships. If Romeo and Juliet had never met, the death of the other wouldn't mean anything to either of them. But, since they are married, of course the other would kick the bucket just to see the other happy, or to meet them on the other side. Even if they weren't married, the same events that happened most likely still would've happened. In my complete, honest opinion, it's foolish to take your life because someone else takes their own, or breaks up with you, and you feel as if you have nothing else to live for. Taking your own is foolish, and no one should ever come to the conclusion that "ending their own life" is the
answer.
Thought the play, these lovers go through many obstacles that range from arranging a wedding and finding a time to meet to Juliet trying to get out of marrying Paris. The entire time fate is tossing them around. Romeo realizes this after he kills Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, in a brawl. At first, Romeo does not want to fight because Romeo and Juliet are already married at this time and he knows that they are cousins. Tybalt asks for a brawl from Romeo but Mercutio fights instead. Mercutio gets killed by Tybalt and that is what makes Romeo mad and fight Tybalt.
They are then married by Friar Lawrence. On that same morning Mercutio is killed by Tybalt, Romeo the retaliates by killing Tybalt which gets him banished from Verona. Then Juliet's parents arrange a marriage for
Romeo and Juliet’s impulsive behavior is strongly influenced by their infatuation and the irresponsible encouragements of their adult figures, ultimately resulting in their tragic downfall. Despite only meeting twice, Romeo and Juliet are extremely attracted to each other, and the emotional factor motivates them to get married. They did not consider the consequences of their actions or ask their parents for their approval of the wedding, instead, they choose to get married in secret due to the grudge. The grudge creates a physical barrier between Romeo and Juliet’s communication and interactions, due to their family’s blind hatred towards each other. Despite the possibility of getting killed, Romeo is willing to cross the Capulet’s gates in hopes of catching a glimpse of
In conclusion, in the play Romeo and Juliet both Romeo and Juliet make decisions that, because of their adolescents are quick and are not thought through which really affects their lives and those of the people close to them. In this day and age you see people who are making bad decisions, for example the use of drugs and underage drinking. The decision to do these things is most of the time done by people who are adolescents. These people dont think about the real consequences that it could have later in their live or event the damage that it does to their bodies right now. These people do it without
Have you ever wondered who, or what, caused Romeo and Juliet to commit suicide? I will answer this question after a brief introduction of the book, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare.
Romeo Montague, age 16, died due to poison on August 14, 1595, in the tomb of the Capulets. Born on December 16, 1579, Romeo lived a short life, but it was a full of love, heartbreak and fun. Romeo was the only son of the Capulet family. He was loved dearly by both his mother and father, Lord and Lady Montague and many others. Romeo is survived by his parents, Lord and Lady Montague, of Verona; his relatives, Benvolio and Mercutio (Dead), of Verona; and his servant, Balthasar. A great leader and strong role model, Romeo knew when to have fun and when to fool around with his friends.
Romeo and Juliet, a play by William Shakespeare, is about the tragedy of two lovers. The two lovers are from families that hate each other. Romeo is a Montague, whilst Juliet is a Capulet. Romeo had loved another girl, only to find she was to become a nun. He then went to a party hosted by the Capulets, and fell in love with Juliet. He met up with her, as she also liked him, and they eventually got married. Their happiness did not last long, however, as Tybalt, a man from Juliet’s house, killed Mercutio, a relative to the prince and Romeo’s friend. Romeo then proceeded to kill Tybalt, which lead to his banishment. Juliet put herself in a death-like state to be with Romeo, who found out and actually killed himself. Juliet
In the fair city of Verona, two rival families, the Montagues and Capulets were involved in a nasty family feud that goes back years before any of the members were born. Even the townspeople were involved in the dispute, because the families were always fighting in the streets and causing disturbances. They disrupted the streets of Verona and even Prince Escalus tried to break up the fighting. They were given a warning, by him that another public fight would result in death. While this was occurring, Romeo, (a Montague) the main character, was getting over his last love, Rosaline, and was very upset. Juliet of the Capulet household had just been introduced to a wealthy young man, Paris, whom her parents wished her to marry. Yet she did not love him. Romeo goes to a party in an effort to forget about Rosaline. At this party he met Juliet, and immediately fell in love with her. He later finds out that she is a Capulet, the rival family of the Montagues. He decides that he loves her anyway and they confess their love for each other during the very famous "balcony scene" in which they agreed to secretly marry the next day. Friar Lawrence agreed to marry them in an effort to end the feuding between the families. Unfortunately, the fighting gets worse and Mercutio (Montague) a good friend of Romeo ends up in a fight with Tybalt (Capulet), Juliet's cousin. Tybalt killed Mercutio, which caused Romeo to kill Tybalt in an angry rage. For this, Romeo is banished from Verona. At the same time, the Capulet's were planning Juliet's marriage to Paris. Juliet didn't want to marry this man so she arranges with Friar Lawrence to fake her own death with a sleeping potion that would make everyone think that she was dead. Friar Lawrence promised to send word to Romeo to meet her when the potion wears off and to rescue her to Mantua, where Romeo was currently staying. There they would live happily ever after. Unfortunately, Romeo didn't receive the message on time and upon hearing of her "death" went to Juliet's tomb where he drinks poison and dies. When Juliet's potion wears off, she wakes to find her lover's dead corpse. She then proceeds to stab herself with Romeo's dagger. The two families find the bodies and with their shared sorrow, finally make peace with each other.
WHO IS THE BLAME? Good afternoon, my fellow audience. I am here today to persuade you on who I believe to be the character most responsible for the death of the two main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It is almost an ironic play because of its open and easily known ending, but yet its ending raises the controversial question, WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE DEATH OF ROMEO AND JULIET? I believe every character in the book contributed to their deaths, even Romeo and Juliet themselves, but Friar Lawrence bears a monumental deal of the blame because he was the principle and most reliable adult that could have steered the ‘inexperienced’ couple, but his incompetency led Romeo and Juliet to a violent death.
After killing Mercutio, Tybalt’s inflated confidence and rising aggression leads him to fight his new, unknown cousin, Romeo. Consequently, Tybalt plants his own seed of fate with his aggression. Due to self-defense, Romeo kills Tybalt and then gets banished for his actions by the Prince. This marks the beginning of the end for Romeo and Juliet’s love. It presents the biggest challenge for the star-crossed lovers because it is their separation, and due to the strong love they are too young to handle, they self-destruct, both committing suicide.
There are many growing issues in our society, and suicide is one of the largest. Teens everywhere are finding reasons to end their life. The leading cause of suicide in America is a mental disease, next comes depression, and then the feeling
At the Capulet's party he found a new love by the name Juliet, instantly upon impulse they meet and kiss. By the next day, under Friar Lawrence's guidance, they meet again and get married. Romeo and Juliet were soon married and later that afternoon Juliet's cousin Tybalt kills Mercutio during a small fight in the street. Romeo sees this injustice and upon impulse kills Tybalt in revenge.
Because the love between the young couple is so powerful, they go to Friar Lawrence and they are secretly married. On the day of their marriage Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, challenges Romeo to a duel. In the midst of all this chaos, Romeo's best friend, Mercutio, is murdered by Tybalt. Romeo then slays Tybalt out of revenge. When the prince of Verona finds out what Romeo has done, he banishes Romeo from Verona forever.
In 1996, more teenagers and young adults died of suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia and influenza, and chronic lung disease combined.
The reasons why people choose suicide over resolving tangled problems are complex. However, one big cause of suicide is the feeling of helplessness that one feels after going through rough phases in life. Helplessness usually leads to depression that can further lead to suicide. Some may feel unloved and victimized in a way that triggers their thoughts of suicide. For some other helpless individuals, suicide seems to be the only option left that they should take in order to escape from what was going on. They may regard suicide as some sort of an “escapade”. In addition, suicide enables them to get relief from awful feelings like frustration and rejection. Besides, teenagers who committed suicide or planned to do so were most likely to be under pressure or stressed out due t...
