Analysis of mass media myths #1, and #10 (Your perfect partner is cosmically predestined, so nothing/nobody can ultimately separate you, The right mate completes you-filling your needs and making your dreams comes true) in the 2008 single “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.
“Love Story” portrays the “Romeo and Juliet effect” (intensified romantic feelings due to the disapproval of parental units), by glorifying myth #1, suggesting that no force can pull two people apart who are destined to be together. The song also demonstrates myth #2 (love at first sight), as well as myth #10 (The right mate ‘completes you’…). While the lyrics suggest a “love conquers all” storyline, ultimately ending with a happy ending, the reality of this occurring is unlikely
Juliet refers to herself as a “scarlett letter. Nathanial Hawthorne’s text, “The Scarlett Letter” (1850), tells of a woman who is required to wear a letter “A”, to shame her and let it be known that she has committed unfavorable behaviors. Based on the meaning of a scarlett letter, rather than Juliet, Romeo would actually be the scarlett letter. The song does not explain the significance of this term nor explain why Juliet believes she is a scarlett letter. William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet depicts a couple who are unfit for each other but in love, rather than a happy ending as “love story” entails, “Romeo and Juliet” ends in a double-suicide.
Preferred: Young lovers always end up together. Love at first sight means you were meant to be. Real love exists and nothing can interpose a relationship that is meant to be. Parents’ approval cannot stop soulmates from loving each other. Escaping from home is one way to avoid separation. Marriage is the culmination of
This relationship falls under the Drama Triangle model proposed by Stephen Karpman, in which there is a victim (a princess), a rescuer (a prince) and a persecutor (the father). This triangle serves to justify a codependent relationship. The song also relates to Katz and Liu’s False Love Syndrome because the relationship described by the singer likens the protagonists to Romeo and Juliet, a fictional couple, that was predestined and the only romantic relationship the characters ever engaged in. The characters in the song wish to be together forever and never separate thus creating an illusion of what real love is
Juliet was a beautiful girl who was lovestruck and she would give her life away for love. She is obedient, eager and passionate young girl. She was deep in love with Romeo. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare.
Romeo and Juliet, a play by William Shakespeare, is about the tragedy of two lovers. The two lovers are from families that hate each other. Romeo is a Montague, whilst Juliet is a Capulet. Romeo had loved another girl, only to find she was to become a nun. He then went to a party hosted by the Capulets, and fell in love with Juliet. He met up with her, as she also liked him, and they eventually got married. Their happiness did not last long, however, as Tybalt, a man from Juliet’s house, killed Mercutio, a relative to the prince and Romeo’s friend. Romeo then proceeded to kill Tybalt, which lead to his banishment. Juliet put herself in a death-like state to be with Romeo, who found out and actually killed himself. Juliet
Love is a wonderful curse that forces us to do unexplainable things. Romeo and Juliet is a famous play written by William Shakespeare, who does an exceptional job in showing the readers what hate, mercy, death, courage, and most importantly what love looks like. This play is about two star-crossed lovers who are both willing to sacrifice their lives just to be with one another. Unfortunately tragedy falls upon the unconditional love Romeo and Juliet have for each other, but along the way they experience immeasurable forgiveness and extraordinary braveness just to be with one another. Sadly enough, love is a cause of violence in the end. Even though the pair spends less time together, it is enough for them to fall in love. It is clearly true
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet – popularly considered by many to be the quintessential love story of all time – is a play that we are all familiar with in one way or another. Whether it be through the plethora of portrayals, adaptations and performances that exist or through your own reading of the play, chances are you have been acquainted with this tale of “tragic love” at some point in your life. Through this universal familiarity an odd occurrence can be noted, one of almost canonical reverence for the themes commonly believed to be central to the plot. The most widely believed theme of Romeo and Juliet is that of the ideal love unable to exist under the harsh social and political strains of this world. Out of this idea emerge two characters who, throughout history, have been heralded as the world’s greatest lovers and who have been set up as yardsticks against which future lovers must be measured. The tragic courtship between Romeo and Juliet has become so idealized and revered that even the Oxford English Dictionary lists this definition under the word ‘Romeo’:
Juliet’s weakness to be controlled by love leads her to make unadvised and irresponsible decisions that contribute to her choice of ending her life. Characterized as a young and rash teenager, with no interest in love and marriage at first, Juliet wants to be independent. However, after she first lays eyes on Romeo, Juliet’s perception of love is quick to change. Their strong love easily manipulates and clouds her judgment. Even if she is cautious and realizes their love is too fast, the rush of feelings from having a first love overcomes her. Her soft-spoken words symbolically foreshadow the journey of Romeo and Juliet’s love. “Well, do not swear. Although I joy in thee, / I have no joy of this contract tonight. / It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden;…/ This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath, / May prove to be a beauteous flower when next we meet” (2.2. 117-123). The blooming flower is indicative of their growing love, especially Juliet. Being her first experience of true love, her actions become more rash the deeper she falls in, even ...
Love is ironic. It can take you anywhere in the world unexpectedly, and turn you into a person that you never were. However, love is also two-faced, having both a negative and positive view. It is what drives you to the point where you do not know who you are anymore. In Shakespeare's story, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare perceives love with the personalities and actions of the characters, Romeo and Juliet. Both Romeo and Juliet are characterized as immature and irrational due to their "love." In addition, both characters fail to realize the reality of life and go towards the path of adolescence. Even though Romeo and Juliet are doomed at the end of the journey of "love," their demise was caused by their rash and silly decisions because their belief of everlasting love blinds them from reality and shapes their lives into an unstoppable time bomb.
Love is often perceived as something perfect and flawless in today’s society. However, Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William Shakespeare, portrays love as a form of passionate and violent force that comes with both rewards and consequences. The tragedy focuses on two young lovers called Romeo and Juliet, whose families are intertwined in an ancient feud that disrupts the peace in Verona, Italy. For love, the two teenagers are driven to overcome obstacles they will never imagine doing, and as a result, they along other family members are forced to pay the price of their lives. Through the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare exhibits the reality of young love through the portrayal of the Queen Mab Speech, the impulsive actions taken by both lovers, and the results caused by the powerful nature of their love.
To sum up the whole story Romeo and Juliet’s love never had a chance because time was not on their side and neither were the two families. The young couple thought that everything would be solved if they hurried up and got married and that is what they did and it ended in disaster. This story, by William Shakespeare, is a perfect example of how falling in love quickly can be good in some instances and bad in others.
...ay for years, believing it was a play about love, but the way Shakespeare wrote the play it is far from a love story. As Romeo moved from Rosaline to Juliet, for the simple fact that he believed Juliet is more beautiful than Rosaline, gives the perfect example that the play is based on desperation. Juliet says to Romeo, showing her desperation, “Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow / that I shall say good night till it be morrow” (II ii 188-189). When Romeo and Juliet say they cannot spend another night away from each other, it sets a perfect example of obsession in the play. Even Romeo knows he is anxious to force love when he says, “Th’ exchange of thy love’s faithful vow for mine” (II ii 127).
“Juliet’s Soliloquy” was written by William Shakespeare around 1595. William Shakespeare, the Great Stratford Bard, was an English poet and playwright. Shakespeare’s legendary works were the product of his life experiences that reveals why he chose this career. Although Shakespeare is known for many of his poems, “Juliet’s Soliloquy” from Romeo and Juliet, has many illustrative characteristics such as love, fear, passion, and hate. This poem allows readers to visualize a picture of his passionate and spiritual beliefs in life. For a person to have such beliefs tells a lot about their family background and the way that they were raised. In addition, if a person will do anything in their will power for their other half, there must be such strong feelings between the two. Therefore, his hard work and determination to become better pushed him into world of all kinds of literature as he realized in the poetic figures of the English period.
In the first four lines, Shakespeare conveys a foreshadow of death that affects the way Romeo thinks about love. Shakespeare starts with the singular letter “O” (1), connoting dreamlike thoughts and wishes. It could also be a sigh in which Romeo, who is a dreamer and gets easily attracted to women, understands that he will never be with his true love forever. Furthermore, the “she” (1) in the same line, hints that Romeo has taken a liking to a particular girl, and that he will
In the beginning of the play one may think that it is a timeless love story, however once finishing the script you begin to wonder what the real message is. Was Shakespeare just trying to prove that “love at first sight” does not exist? Or was he making a stand against children making decisions for themselves? In the play, Romeo and Juliet William Shakespeare creates a beautiful but tragic love story, about two love crazed teens who kill themselves for each other. The story Romeo and Juliet is filled with many struggles that comes with love and hate.
Romeo and Juliet is a romantic love story about a young lad named Romeo who has fallen in love with Lady Juliet, but is unable to marry her because of a long-lasting family feud. The play ends in the death of both these characters and the reunion of the friendship between the families. Romeo is in love with Juliet, and this is a true, passionate love (unlike the love Paris has for her or the love Romeo had for Rosaline) that nothing can overcome, not even the hatred between their two families that is the reason for the death of their two children. Throughout the play, Shakespeare thoroughly explores the themes of both true love and false love and hatred. Without either of these themes, the play would loose its romantic touch and probably would not be as famous as it is today.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a play commonly viewed and known as a true love story; however, after analyzing several hints portrayed by the protagonists, it is evident that Shakespeare did not intend to make Romeo and Juliet seem like a true love story but a criticism of how superficial society’s view on love is.
