It can bring up emotion in you. Happiness and sadness all in one. In it there must be sacrifice and hardships. It can make you feel as if your heart was ripped out but make your heart feel like it just began to live. In order for it to survive there must be trust; however when it is broken there is little faith left. Romeo and Juliet’s relationship shared something that was unbreakable and was carried throughout the play even after they die. Shown in Romeo and Juliet numerous times in the novel, love is the biggest sacrifice.
When Romeo met Juliet at Capulet’s party, Romeo fell in love. Eager to see her after the night they met, Romeo awaited her outside her balcony. The two families who had a long rivalry against one another, had an on-going

feud. Romeo as a Montague and Juliet as a Capulet set them apart. Their love already defying their parents morals arose danger for them. If Romeo was ever found on Capulets territory it could have ended in death. As said by Juliet, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo. Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (ROM.II.ii.35-38). Juliet tells Romeo that she will defy her father’s words and ignore her name for the love she feels for Romeo. She will sacrifice the hatred that will come from her family for loving someone who they hate. She would rather love Romeo than be a Capulet anymore. Shakespeare demonstrates the strong relationship between Romeo and Juliet and how if anything got in the way of their love they would overcome it. In present day, much alike Romeo and Juliet’s problematic relationship, couples face hatred from their partner’s parents. They too must overcome this problem and sacrifice their love for each other for the love of someone else. After one short night, Romeo convinces Friar Lawrence to wed Juliet and himself. Despite possible criticism from the Friar and even the possibility of both families finding out, they would sacrifice their happiness over the responsibility of what other people might think. As Romeo declares to Juliet, “Then love-devouring death do what he dare-- It is enough I may but call her mine” (ROM.II.vi.7-8). Romeo and Juliet’s love illuminates when they are with one another and will risk the safety of their parent’s criticism for their own happiness. After Juliet finds out her father is forcing her to marry Paris or be thrown out of her home to fend for herself, she seeks for the Friar to pursue help in this situation.
The Friar gives Juliet a vial full of a potion that will make Juliet seem as she is dead. This potion will get Juliet out of marrying Paris and will allow her to be with Romeo. This plan had to be done with precision. One wrong move could ruin the whole plan. Juliet, hesitant at first, realizes for her to ever be with Romeo she must sacrifice her comfort for love. As Juliet says, “Seeking out Romeo, that did spit his body upon a rapier’s point. Stay. Tybalt, Stay! Romeo, I come! This do I drink to thee” (ROM.IV.iii.58-59). Juliet takes the potion knowing she is doing the right thing and as she takes it she acknowledges Romeo and says she drinks for him. Even with the possibility of failure, this was the only way Juliet could get out of marrying Paris. As it did involve the pain of her family she realizes that her love for Romeo is stronger than the love of her family. If her parents wouldn’t allow her to be happy and not marry Paris, then she would make them suffer with her so called death and make them regret the choices they made against their
daughter. Shakespeare exposes the true meaning behind Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. For some they might think there love is to rebel against their parents and marry opposite of what they think. Others it shows the true commitment they have for one another. The sacrifices they made for one another that potentially ruin their relationship with their families. It shows the vow that Romeo and Juliet made to each other to always love one another no matter what got in their way. Romeo who admires Juliet greatly, choses to kill himself after he finds out that Juliet had “died”. After he realizes there is no life without Juliet, he goes to the apothecary to receive poison to kill himself. A sacrifice that will end Romeo’s life because he cannot live without his love. As Romeo proclaims, “Come, Cordial and not poison, go with me to Juliet’s grave; for these must I use thee” (ROM.V.i.88-89). It shows the lengths Romeo will go to for Juliet. He would rather die than live any life without the women that made him feel alive. Shakespeare expresses this by the passionate actions that Romeo would take for the person he loves. This reveals the importance of Juliet and Romeo’s relationship and how much they mean to each other by the ultimate sacrifice, death. In modern day relationships couples are not as committed as Romeo is to Juliet; however, after a loved one passes away, much like Juliet to Romeo, a grief overcomes them and makes them feel dejected. Alike Romeo they do not want to live anymore without the person that made them happy. In the 16th century when Romeo and Juliet was written, it lacked the medicine and professional help that modern day grievers have; however no amount of time or medicine can help the grief that incapacitates people. This is shown when Juliet “dies” and Romeo finds out and kills himself. This expresses the lengths people will go to, to end their grief. What if Romeo received the letter from the Friar and met Juliet in the sepulcher? Many what ifs uproar after reading Romeo and Juliet. A love story that ended in a tragedy, but could have been avoided. If Romeo had received the letter from the Friar then Romeo wouldn’t have thought Juliet was dead and kill himself. Since Romeo didn’t kill himself, Juliet wouldn’t have had to sacrifice herself for Romeo. All could have been avoided by one single letter. Romeo and Juliet is a play that ended in tragedy; however, it also displays the sacrifices Romeo and Juliet will go through to be together. It can reveal the true meaning of love and inspire others to be the same. Romeo and Juliet weren’t just lovers who died for each other, but they were people who truly would expense their own life for the fear of not being able to live without each other.
Did you know that Romeo and Juliet was one of the biggest love story of all time. Romeo and Juliet is a story of two star-crossed lovers from two families the Capulets and the Montagues. The Capulets and the Montague had a big fight that made the families very angry at each other. Romeo and Juliet decide to get married. The two couple marry and run away. In the process both of them will die. When it comes to Romeo and Juliet who are the top three people that caused the two to die. The two people that are chosen are Friar Lawrence and Lady Capulet. Friar was chosen because he is the one that married Romeo and Juliet. Lady Capulet was chosen because she is forcing Juliet to marry Paris which is making Juliet want Romeo even more. The third thing
When Juliet sees the friar talking to Paris, she bursts into tears. The friars solution is to give her a potion that “When presently through all thy veins shall run a cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease” (4.1.4.98-100). This is irrational because the her fake death isn't necessary because they could just come out with their love. The friar doesn't help Juliet's irrational mind, instead he influences her by saying “if no inconstant toy, nor womanish fear, abate thy valor in the acting it”(4.1.4. 122-123). The friar almost pushes her into it by saying that he doubts her, which is far from helping her irrational decision streak. Instead of heeding the friars warning, she demands the friar to “Give me, give me! O, tell not me of fear!”(4.1.5.124). This completely irrational because she doesn't care about what this mysterious liquid will do to her, instead she just asks for it. Juliet has payed no attention to what effects might come with this potion and she doesn't think about the possible
When Juliet staged her death, she was being dishonest to her parents by telling them that she was going to marry Paris. She acted like she really wanted to marry him, when she really wanted be with Romeo. Dishonesty can lead to many tragedies in life. Juliet thinks everything is going as planned. She drinks the potion, she “dies”, and everyone thinks she’s dead, so they bury her. The only thing left is for her to wake up from the potion and be with her lover Romeo. Things change up and don’t go how they were planed. The friar promised Juliet that he would send a messenger to Rome. “In this resolve. I’ll send a friar with speed”(IV,1,127)
The Friar says that Juliet’s only option to get out of marrying the County Paris is to kill herself. His encouragement invokes the idea for Juliet to drink the potion. Trusting Juliet with a sleeping potion and the idea of killing herself showcases his rashness and that he is incapable of being a true friar. When giving Juliet the potion, after invoking the idea of killing herself, he trusts Juliet will follow through with his plan.
When Juliet goes to the friar and threatens to kill herself if he doesn’t help her get out of marrying Paris he agrees to help her. He gives her a potion to temporarily stop her breathing so she appears dead. The friar says, “Take thou this /vial, being then in bed,/And this distilling liquor drink thou off;/When presently through/all thy veins shall run/A cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse/Shall keep his native progress, but surcease.” (Act IV.i 95-99) “In the meantime, against thou shalt awake,/Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift,” (Act IV.i 115-116) He is saying that Juliet doesn’t have to worry about Romeo freaking out about her death because he will tell Romeo about her fake death and they will be there to dig her up once she wakes up from her sleeping potion. Juliet is 100% on board with this plan because she really does not want to marry Paris. She is even willing to make her family think she is dead to be with
When Romeo and Juliet realize they can’t be together, and Juliet is expected to marry Paris, she needs an escape plan. Juliet pays a visit to the Friar, who creates a plan for Juliet to fake her death with a sleeping potion. When Juliet asks the Friar to help her break free from her wedding with Paris, he replies that: If, rather than to marry County Paris, Thou has the strength of will to slay thyself; Then it is likely thou wilt undertake A thing like death to elude away this shame, That cop'st with death himself to scrape from it; And, if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy. IV i 71-76. Therefore, for the second time, the Friar acts unwisely and agrees to give Juliet this deadly potion.
“Take this vial, being then in bed,/ And this distilling liquor thou off,/ When presently through all thy veins shall run/ A cold drowsy humour” (4.1.90-91). Friar gave Juliet the potion because she said she would rather kill herself than marry Paris and after saying that Friar came up with the idea to give her the potion and put her into a fake death, while he contacted Romeo to come and rescue her. The idea that they had in their minds did not go according to plan because Romeo got the news that Juliet actually died, not that she was put in a fake death. As Juliet fell in love with Romeo, The Nurse went behind the backs of Juliet’s parents and was sending messages between the two.
In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, lines 14-27 of Act IV, Scene 3, In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, act IV scene 3, lines 14-27, Juliet is speaking her thoughts aloud to herself. Juliet found out that she is required to marry Paris. This situation has led Juliet to go to the friar for a solution. In result to that, the friar gave her a vial with a mixture that would supposedly make Juliet “dead like” for forty-two hours. Juliet planned to drink it that night so that her so her family would put her in an open casket the next morning. It was planned that Romeo would then come get her and they would go live together in Mantua. These plans go horribly wrong. Juliet is worried about the mixture. She wonders if it will work or kill her. Juliet gets scared that the friar gave her a poison because
With all the conflict arising between Juliet’s family, Friar Lawrence creates a plan that unfortunately does not succeed. His plan for Juliet is to tell her father she will marry Paris, then go to bed with no one, not even the nurse. After, she will drink a potion to make her seem dead for forty two hours and then have a messenger tell Romeo about it. He will have her put in a vault to wait for Friar to bring her out so she and Romeo can elope. The plan was perfect until tragedy occurs, Benvolio sees Juliet dead and immediately tells Romeo about it.
Why might anyone kill true happiness? This was the case for Romeo and Juliet. There is no doubt that their death was tragic and horrible; however, the question is who is to blame for their death. Their death was simply on them they are the true people to blame. The story begins with the two family’s Montague and Capulet they rivaled each other and got in lots of fights. Soon after Romeo shows up in the scene when the pore heart broken Romeo from just breaking up with Roseline. From there the heartbroken Romeo goes to a party to get over it. Then Romeo soon meets Juliet and they become a thing. The new couple are wed secretly and only the friar and Juliet's nurse knew. Then after Romeo kill tybalt and is forced to
Juliet receives a vial containing a potion from Friar Lawrence, who has a plan that will make Juliet appear as if she is dead, so that when she awakens, she will unite with Romeo. Juliet considers several consequences before drinking the potion, such as losing her sanity or being buried alive. Despite her reasoning, she summons the courage to drink the potion, exclaiming “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here’s to a drink.
Through this tragic play, Shakespeare illustrates that love requires people to sacrifice many precious things, which can include family, friends, even life. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet depicts the nuances of human experience of love. Romeo and Juliet’s story is the greatest declaration of romantic love.
so then she will appear dead and not have to marry Paris like her father had arranged for her. The next day was the day of Juliet's wedding where she would be married to Paris. The night before she took the potion, the nurse discovered her lying on her bed looking like she had died. Romeo's man witnesses the funeral of Juliet and he tells Romeo of the news. Romeo is crushed so he buys a poison and heads back to Verona to die next to Juliet in her Capulet's tomb.
In addition to being a rich, nice, and suitable man, Paris was not a Montague. Lord Capulet was impressed with Paris and scheduled an abrupt wedding for the marriage of Paris and Juliet, without knowing of the secret matrimony of Romeo and Juliet. When Juliet heard news of her arranged marriage she soon fled to a trusted friend, Friar Lawrence, for a tactic to get out of the soon to be marriage. The Friar quickly brewed up a vial that had the capability to make one appear dead while they were still alive. In addition to making the vial the Friar also sent word to Romeo that in two days he need to return to Verona to be there when Juliet woke up from her sleep like coma. As fate would have it Romeo received word that Juliet had past on, but not that it was only a medically induced coma. Immediately after hearing the horrible news of his wife's death Romeo few back to the tomb of Juliet's body with a bottle of lethal poison. When he arrived Paris was at Juliet's tomb, nevertheless Paris blames Romeo for the death of Juliet's death. Meaning that Romeo broke her heart when he killed her cousin Tybalt. They were soon consumed in a fight, but in the end Romeo kills Paris. Romeo was consumed with grief and drinks poison that puts him to rest. Soon Juliet woke up to discover the dead bodies of Paris and Romeo, the sight of the bodies caused her to stab herself in the
Everyone is to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, Juliet, Friar Laurence, and Romeo and Juliet’s parents all played their own role in causing the four deaths of Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, and Paris. It is not just one of them to blame, every one of them did something to cause the tragedy. Some of them played a bigger role than others, but everyone contributed. Fate had nothing to do with it and it was all the different characters faults. Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence’s rash decisions where the main cause of the tragedy.
