Romeo is a static character. Romeo shows no character development throughout the story as he is reckless from the beginning of the story and does not change. From these actions, readers can tell that Romeo is very reckless and doesn’t consider his actions before doing so, such as, going to the party just to see Rosaline and falling in love with someone whom he shouldn’t. After the party, Romeo goes to see Juliet in her room planning on marriage, not even a day after. This demonstrates that Romeo is rash and quick to decide big things. Romeo goes up to Juliet at her house and tells her that he will no longer be Montagu for her. Romeo talking to Juliet. "Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized; henceforth I will never be
When analyzing Romeo and Juliet it is clear that Benvolio is the best character to represent the difference between what is right and what is wrong. He is expressed through his actions,to keep the Montague and Capulet men at peace, while fighting.Especially, towards the end where the Capulets and Montagues were at a high stand point of disagreement with their kids being “star crossed lovers”(prologue.6) Even though,Shakespeare introduces and builds different characters to be like Benvolio, the choices and decisions Benvolio develops as a trustworthy and advice giving character. Therefore,Benvolio is the best character to express the difference between right and wrong.
A friar of wisdom and great power is an abuser of the power he holds; a friar the citizenry turn to thinking he is there to be welcoming, but he is vain. Friar Lawrence has good intentions to help others yet his actions show that he is truly impulsive and naive. The Friar shows his, “lies, schemes, misleads, falsely sanctions, and performs funeral obsequies for a being he knows is not permanently dead--and, as we can tell, he has no the slightest twinge of conscience about all of this” (Mackenzie 1). He is also blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. He manipulates the characters to believe his actions are to help the star-crossed lovers be happy, however he has ulterior motives and uses his powers against the lovers. In William Shakespeare’s
Romeo’s friends Benvolio and Mercutio “urge him to stop philosophizing about his lost love and to seek another young lady as a new object of his affections” (Dupler). Romeo now demonstrates that he seems incapable of listening to his friends’ suggestions and chooses to continue in a juvenile state of depression. Romeo makes another fatal decision when he nurtures an undeniably damned relationship. Romeo admits that he still loves Juliet once her lineage appears as Capulet when he says, “Is she a Capulet? O dear account,
“It is an honor that I dream not of”(Juliet) Juliet Capulet is one of the main characters in William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet. However, Juliet is a young character who has no idea what love is, but finds it at first sight when she lays eyes on Romeo. She is a round-character who proceeds to undergo many situations that change her overall character. Adjectives to describe Juliet are innocent, impatient, and loving.
Ever heard that too much hate is a bad thing. Well in Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows how the hate we have can lead to unintentional consequences. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare illustrate how hate affect the way someone say or does something.
The world is an unforgiving place. Finding someone to trust is easy, finding someone trustworthy is difficult. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a multi-generational dispute rampages the city of Verona, preventing two young lovers from being together. However, in the iconic balcony scene, Juliet embodies characteristics unexpected of her. Despite Juliet being described as an innocent and naive young lady by her family, she has an ardor that allows her to portray maturity beyond her years.
Romeo and Juliet is arguably the most classic love story in the English language and it portrays to us young, irrational, passionate love. Shakespeare suggests to us that the kind of love that Romeo and Juliet feel towards each other leads lovers to pass in isolation to the world around them because they are so in love. Romeo and Juliet refrain from committing to anyone else as they choose only to act selflessly towards each other. They obtain a strong young love which is a reason why their relationship grows as intense as it does so quickly. Shakespeare makes us think that Romeo and Juliet's love is only a short-term burst of young love, which we know it is short-term, but from the view of a reader, Romeo and Juliet have a very special love.
Friar Laurence is a character that should be pardoned for his actions. He was just trying to do what he thought was best for both Romeo and Juliet and their families. Friar Laurence agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet together, his reason was “This alliance may so happy prove to turn your households’ rancor to pure love.” (2,3,90-93). Friar Laurence was hoping that if he married Romeo and Juliet, their two families would stop fighting. It seemed like a good plan to him at the time, because why would he suspect that their marriage would lead to their deaths? The Prince should understand his reasoning, and he also wanted the two families to stop fighting; therefore, he should pardon Friar for his mistake. Friar Laurence also knew that Juliet would have rather died than marry someone other than Romeo, because she told him “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, from off the battlements of any tower, or walk in thievish ways, or bid me lurk where serpents are.” (4,1,77-80).
Mercutio says, “Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance…You are a lover. Borrow Cupid's wings. And soar with them above a common bound” (1.4.13-18). Mercutio persuades Romeo and says he is a gentle person and he gets all the girls and that he should go to the party to get over Rosaline and when they go to the party Romeo meets Juliet and falls in love with her, then marries her in a day. This is where Tybalt sees Romeo at the party making Tybalt wanting to kill
Throughout the story Mercutio shows that he is always there for Romeo and stands up for him and supports all of the decisions that Romeo makes; he was an unflinching friend to Romeo. Mercutio also didn’t care who Romeo was in love with, he just wanted Romeo to be happy and live life and not mope around and be sad all the time. Mercutio stood by Romeo no matter what was going on in his life.
Capulet is one of the reasons Romeo and Juliet are dead. Juliet’s father is emotionally and verbally toward her. “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch! I tell thee what- get thee to church a’ Thursday Or never after look me in the face. Speak not, reply not, do not answer me!” In the scene where Juliet’s father is yelling at her he is calling her worthless of being Paris’ wife. Her father said that he didn’t care if she was out on the street. Even her mother said she didn’t care what happened to her. Juliet wanted to escape her father because he treats her like trash. So she “fell in love with the enemy” and wants to get married to him so she can escape him. Juliet and Romeo didn’t end up getting away together. I guess she thought this was a good way to escape her dad.
Even though Romeo is presented with violent situation, he remains calm. Do you think you can do he same? In the story "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers whose love is fobidden. They sneak under there parents eye to meet secretly to show there live for one another. The character Romeo is what you would call a lover. Which also means he is not a fighter. Even though he does show acts of violence in the story most would say Romeo is a violent person.
If Mercutio had engaged in listening to Romeo’s dream, then Romeo may not have been discouraged. After the party, Mercutio should have spoken respectfully about Rosaline and towards nurse, so that Romeo would not have felt uncared for by his friends. Mercutio should not have provoked a fight and blamed it on Romeo, who was put into a bad situation as a consequence. Mercutio’s characteristics of a friend differ from those of a friend that Romeo
One uncontrolled passion that is presented by Shakespeare as a key cause of the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is the Feud between the Montagues and Capulets. “This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy, what dares the slave come hither...... Now by the stock and honour of my kin, to strike him dead I hold it not a sin. This is said by Tybalt in Act 1 Scene 5 when he notices Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio have snuck into Capulets party by saying “Fetch me my Rapier” he is asking his slave to fetch him his sword immediately resorting to violence instead of consulting the trio of Montagues of their intentions showing that he was fiercely loyal to the Capulets.”
Romeo is saying how he is very upset and should not go in to the party and he is not happy enough to dance. Mercutio’s character is seen as happier the more Romeo is upset about not getting to have a full relationship with Rosaline. It is very easy to tell Romeo is upset when he is compared with Mercutio, and it is also easy to see all of Mercutio’s positivity when Romeo is aligned with him. Mercutio is a close friend to Romeo and knows him the best. One example is he is the first to recognize that Romeo has found a new love. The foil starts to ebb when Romeo finds his new love, Juliet. The foil ends with Mercutio death and the hand of Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. Tybalt started the fight because he is still upset that Romeo came to the Capulet party even though he came with Mercutio, the Prince’s cousin. Mercutio knew that the two families did not get along and tried to stay neutral, but because he let his feelings about Tybalt get in the way, he unfortunately paid for it with his life. With Mercutio’s death no comparisons can continue between the characters. After the killing of Mercutio Romeo’s character gains more depth with his love for Juliet and his hatred and want for revenge against Tybalt. This realization that Tybalt must pay for the murder of his friend comes in the form of a duel. The death of Tybalt in the duel escalates
