Have you ever thought Romeo and Juliet needed a bit more politics? Hello Sydney Theatre Company, today I am here to tell you about why I should be the director for my version of Romeo and Juliet; the 2016 American Election version. Yes, you heard me right. The 2016 American Election, the rivalry between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Romeo would be Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr, and Juliet would be Hillary’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton. Donald and Melania Trump would Lord and Lady Montague. Bill and Hillary Clinton would be King and Lady Capulet. The party scene where Romeo and Juliet would be slightly adjusted for the setting. The scene would play out like this; Romeo would meet Juliet at one of Hillary Clinton’s rallies. Then, one of Hillary’s supporters would realise Romeo, a Trump supporter, was there. They would tell Hillary; Hillary would say that was okay and welcome him. At the end of the rally, the star-crossed lovers would meet and fall in love. …show more content…

This would work because the 2016 American Election is infamous for being one of the most popular but controversial elections in the past few years, mostly because of Donald Trump. Imagine all of the people who would want to see this play because of how ridiculous this idea sounds. My marketing slogan ‘Make Shakespeare Great Again’. This slogan is catchy, short and is parodying Trump’s slogan. This slogan could also be turned into merchandise for the play, much like how Trump turned his slogan into merchandise.
