The confidant who seems to be a peacemaker and help a person through his problems might seem like the perfect person to talk to. This could not the right decisions however because the confidant may end up giving misguided advice that will cause more issues in the future. The concept of having a careless confidant is portrayed in Romeo and Juliet. The disastrous deaths of Romeo and Juliet in William Shakespeare’s tragedy is the lovers taking the unwise advice of their only confidant, Friar Lawrence, in facilitating their reunion; his hasty decision-making serves as the impetus for their suicides. Friar Lawrence’s negligence to create a well thought out plan caused the lover’s misfortune death. The Friar gives Juliet a potion to make her appear dead. He wants the Montagues and the Capulets to reconcile and put aside their family feud. Friar Lawrence creates a dangerous plan that could go wrong in many directions. Because the Friar is from the church and could not lie, Juliet is inclined to believe that his plan will work. This potion can be dangerous and risky move into the plan, If the Friar really wanted to help the families, he should have considered the flaws in his plan as there were many factors that caused the plan to go awry such as miscommunication between Romeo and the Friar. Because he thought Juliet died, he, subsequently, killed himself as well. The Friar also, “fails to reveal the prior marriage of Juliet when her family is arranging the ceremony with Paris; his plot with the sleeping potion is very risky and open to error and, in the final scene, he runs away rather than informing the awakening Juliet of events” (Carter). His plan was too flawed to truly work out the way he hoped. Friar Lawrence’s actions are rash and the plan he created is foolish and senseless as he did not work
