Final Essay “I went from adolescence to senility, trying to bypass maturity”.-Retired american musician Tom Lehrer. Adolescents often show lack of maturity. Romeo and Juliet is a story about two kids who meet and and fall in love in the same day only to get married a few days later. Then juliet is supposed to marry another person named Paris after a day of being married to Romeo which then leads to all three of them being dead.In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses figurative language to display that Adolescents can make decisions that are not thought through. In the play Romeo makes bad decisions like, going to the party, Falling in love with Juliet too soon, and Killing himself young. First off Romeo deciding to go to the party. Romeo Another one of Romeo’s bad decisions that was made because of his adolescents was falling in love with Juliet. Romeo is at this party that he is not supposed to be at and sees a girl from across the room. Romeo acknowledges her beauty calling her a “rich jewel in an ethiop's ear.”(1.5, 201). Romeo says she is very beautiful and that she is the girl that “doth enrich the hand” (1.5,201). Which means that she is so beautiful that he loves her and his adolescents makes him fall in love with this girl that he doesn't know. Him being an adolescent makes him make quick unthought through decisions, in this instance he falls in love with a girl he has never met. Mercutio knows that this adolescent will fall apart in the long run as when he is talking to benvolio he says, “if love be blind, love cannot hit the mark”(2.2, 33) Mercutio means by this that Romeo’s choice to fall in this blind love of Juliet will not last because as he says blind love really won't last because there is no love beyond the physical appearance of the two people and they do not have a personal connection that they can use to stay together for the rest of their lives. As he does many Unlike Romeo’s adolescents Juliet once again breaks free from that stereotype right before she is going to drink the potion that makes her look dead. She is worried about if she “wake[s] before the time that Romeo comes to redeem [her]” (4.3,35-end). By this she means that she fears that Romeo will not be there by the time she wakes up and she will be stuck in the tomb with all the dead bodies which will inturn make her go crazy. Juliet though she is not as bad as Romeo still makes some adolescent choices that really affect he life like marrying Romeo and also killing herself. In conclusion, in the play Romeo and Juliet both Romeo and Juliet make decisions that, because of their adolescents are quick and are not thought through which really affects their lives and those of the people close to them. In this day and age you see people who are making bad decisions, for example the use of drugs and underage drinking. The decision to do these things is most of the time done by people who are adolescents. These people dont think about the real consequences that it could have later in their live or event the damage that it does to their bodies right now. These people do it without
