The 1st document was written by PBS. This document was on http://www.pbs.org/empire/romans/empire/christians.html and was under the name “The Roman Empire”. I found this document to be bias because, it show’s that Paul was a good guy and preaching to the poor people in the middle east versus saying that he was forcing his beliefs on poor people under the rule of the Roman Empire.
The second document was from the Christian New Testament which mainly spoke about Jesus. This document from the New Testament is found in Acts on Chapter 16. This discusses Paul’s arrest in Phillpi (city in the Roman Empire). According to the document, this event happened in 49 CE (common era). This document is bias because it portrays the Romans as the bad guys and the Jews and Christians as the victims. In the second passage Paul and Silas were beaten because they were Christians that were mistaken for Jews and were beaten because according to the Romans were spreading “propaganda” by talking about Jesus and God.

According to the passage 1st, I observed that the people in power were the Romans who were polytheistic. They completely rejected the idea on only one God or Christianity. The people who didn’t follow the beliefs of the Romans were usually poor and had no use for when they lived in the middle east according to the passage. Paul would preach to the poor about the savior Jesus Christ (according to the passage) . According to the 2nd passage in Document A, it shows how low class the Jews and Christians were treated. The solider stated, “These men, being Jews, are agitating our city, and advocate customers which is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.” To sum this quote that came directly from the passage basically is saying, “ These men are ruining the city because they are not Roman and preaching about another religion to the poor.” This shows how the Romans discriminated against the Jews and

We could name many of these influences: the Greeks, the Chinese Dynasties but the Romans were particularly like us. We might see them as barbaric is some ways but the reality is that the U.S. takes pages from many areas of the Romans, and comparisons could be drawn between both of us. This was beneficial to a wide range of people, especially peasants because they could have a part in society and be equal to their Christian peers.
Rome was once one of the world's greatest empire until around 200 BCE when Rome started to crumble. The Fall of Rome did not happen suddenly, it took about 1100 years to take place. The first two centuries as an empire were named the "Pax Romana", which meant the time of Roman peace. The Romans were living the life, without a worry in the world. So how and why did Rome start to collapse, if the empire was was doing so grand and magnificent? To answer that question, the primary reasons that Rome started to decline were that the Romans had difficulty with their government which caused social problems/decay, their military was falling behind on their duties and became indolent, and natural disasters.
Rome was kind of a democy it had it’s flaws but by its voting system it makes it a democy. In document C only 2% of Roman’s voted and these votes by the people even though it was few that makes it a democracy. In document C you had to be in Rome to vote which is far because they wouldn’t want an outsider to vote on things that were going on in Rome. In document B poor rich and the freed slaves could vote and for it’s time that is amazing that the poor and the freed slaves could vote. Rome definitely had it’s flaws but for it’s time it was a good democracy but in our fews we don’t think the Rome Republic was a good democy at all.

After his conversion to Christianity, Paul traveled throughout the Roman Empire and preached the Gospel, similar to Jesus’ own ministry across Galilee. Paul’s teachings were more focused on the community and the relationships of its members with each other and with non-Christians, whereas Jesus’ teachings were geared towards the individual and his/her personal relationship to God. Despite this discrepancy in their doctrines, Paul’s teachings remain consistent with those of Jesus. In his First Letter to the Corinthians, Paul’s teachings, such as unity in the community and love for others, echo the teachings of Jesus as depicted in the Gospel of Mark and Matthew. Paul essentially reiterates the teachings of Jesus, and applies them to the lives of the people he preaches to, so that they may understand Jesus’ teachings and embrace Christianity.
Within chapter nine, Horsley presents a picture of the socio-economic landscape in which the emergent church was situated. Specifically, he focuses on Philippi, Thessalonica, and Corinth to point to the overarching economic realities of the Ancient Greek world within the Hellenistic period. Through his analysis, we get a greater understanding of the realities of the early church and the overarching mission that Paul and his colleagues were attempting to accomplish.

What this does suggest is that Paul wanted to convey the theological principle of unity to the Church by imploring them to perceive all believers as equals in spite of social classifications. Paul the Apostle is the central figure in many New Testament writings. Many historians have attributed fourteen New Testament letters to Paul’s writing; seven of these letters are uncontested meaning historians are sure that Paul wrote them, the remaining seven are contested. Paul was not always a Christian; in fact, he persecuted Christians before Christ came and temporarily blinded him. Upon seeing Christ, Paul devoted his life to Christianity and set out to spread the teachings of Christ. Scholars often credit Paul’s leadership to the ability of the Church to become Hellenistic in one generation. Paul also answered specific worries and questions that his converters may have had in many of his writings; one of these writings is 1 Corinthians. In 1 Corinthians, Paul set out to deal with the many believers in Corinth who are divided into the followings of Paul or Apollos rather than Christianity as a whole. The converts of Paul in 1 Corinthians 12-14 were divided during times of worship because of jealousy invoked by the spiritual gifts received from the “Spirit”; the worships and the church became a place to boast who is closest to God, instead of a place of worship, interpretation, and love. In 1 Corinthians 14:26-33, Paul set guidelines in times of worship to heal the divide among his converts present in 1 Corinthians 12-14.
There were many reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire. Each one interweaved with the other. Many even blame the initiation of Christianity in 337 AD by Constantine the Great as the definitive cause while others blame it on increases in unemployment, inflation, military expenditure and slave labour while others blame it on the ethical issues such the decline in morals, the lack of discipline of the armies and the political corruption within the Empire. Three major contributions that led to the collapse of the once great empire were: the heavy military spending in order to expand the Empire, the over-reliance on slave labour which led to an increase in unemployment, and the political corruption and abuse of power by the Praetorian Guard leading to the unfair selection of many disreputable emperors and the assassination of those not favoured by the Guard.
Jesus and Paul are two crucial characters in the New Testament. They both depict the Gospel on which Christianity is based upon, but there is debate about rather these two versions of the Gospel are complementary. Scholars like George Shaw claim that Paul is “anti-Christian,” and he “produced a fantastic theology” (Shaw 415-416). On the other hand, I believe that even though Jesus and Paul may present the Gospel different at times, they are still advocating the same religion. Through the understanding of the Gospels and Paul’s letters it is clear that Jesus and Paul have the same underlining goals and values.
In addition to this, Paul notably makes his points in terms that the Romans would sympathize with - for one, at the beginning of the epistle, he writes that he is “a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians…hence [his] eagerness to proclaim the gospel to [those] also who are in Rome” - and generally makes his civic identity quite clear. (Romans 1.14-15) The Romans had a tendency to generalize groups that were not, in fact, Roman (or Greek) under the label “barbarian.” As a whole, his tone is indeed “eager,” as he states, in the sense that his message comes across as rather urgent and extreme, reflecting the somewhat common stereotype of a “fire and brimstone”
