Roman Baths
The Romans are known for their superb army, a large empire stretching from todays England to parts of Africa, Portugal to Iraq. Also, the Romans were known for creating what we know today as the Senate. Another big thing the Romans are known for is their brilliant engineering skills. Without the Romans engineering skills, some of the buildings and structures today might not exist. One of the Romans greatest engineering challenges was building the baths that later almost everyone in the city would go to. Imagine being a Roman citizen, going to the bath after a long day of work, just to sit back and relax for another day of work tomorrow.
Legend has that Rome was founded by Romulus after killing his brother Remus. The legend starts when Romulus and Remus are abandoned by their parents, put into a basket, and sent down the River Tiber. A female wolf would discover the twins in the basket and nurse them. After a while, a shepherd came along and saw the wolf and the twins Romulus and Remus, the shepherd took the two and raised them. As the twins became adults, Romulus and Remus thought it would be a good idea to found a city near where the wolf found them. Romulus and Remus began to fight over the location of the city, and then Romulus killed his brother Remus. After killing his brother, Romulus started his city and gave it his name, Rome. 753 BC would be the date given for when Romulus founded Rome.
It is believed that the early people of Rome originated from a tribe called the Latins. The Latins were from the plains of Latium and were successful farmers and traders. As the community became rich and successful, neighboring areas started to hear this new rich city of Rome and got jealous. As the Romans started to becom...

...t Rome. To the Romans, Minerva was the goddess of wisdom, magic, medicine, arts, commerce, and defense. A common way that Minerva was expressed was by using a relief. The Romans would put reliefs of her on the bath walls as decoration, and to show some gratitude towards her.
In conclusion, the Roman baths were a great engineering feat done by the Romans. Bathing in the Roman time was taken very seriously. Today, when a person goes to a spa, they might not notice, but some of the features the spa has were used back in ancient Rome. For example, a hot room is still used today. Without the Romans engineering skills, some of the buildings and structures today might not exist. Decorating these baths with artwork of the gods showed gratitude, and it was a great way to decorate the baths. Along with fine marbles and stones to make the baths appealing to a Roman citizen.
The first reason for the fall of Rome were the Roman Emperors. For example, in Document A there was a chart of Roman Emperors from 235-285 CE. The chart was
The Romans were a powerful civilization and had one of the largest and greatest empires of all time. Their vast civilization allowed for the integration of many different types of people into one large country, no weak and certainly no ill-advanced civilization could do such a thing. The Romans were responsible for the near destruction of Christianity, killed its savior, then embraced it.
“The Roman Baths of Nimes” is written by Henri Cole as a way to express his desire to break free of conformity and social norms established by his environment. Furthermore, it can be regarded as a way to put an end to an internal battle by coming to terms with his true identity. A close reading of the poem helps expose the true message the poet attempts to convey to his reader.
The Roman Republic had an upstanding infrastructure, a stable social system, and a balanced constitution that solidified Rome’s greatness. Regardless of its achievements, however, the Roman Republic owes much of its success to classical Greek cultures. These cultures, in conjunction with the fundamental values of Roman society, certified Rome as one of the most significant powers the world has ever seen.
Rome was one of the greatest empires of the ancient world. The early Roman state was founded in 509 B.C. after the Romans drove out the hated Etruscan king. By this time Rome had already grown from a cluster of small villages to a small city. Little did the settlers know that this was the beginning of one of the greatest and largest empires ever known.
In larger cities, as the bath of Constantine was located in, the baths tended to draw on the ornate, generally with colonnades, arches, and large domes . The primary materials used would have been of stone, most likely large quantities of marble would be used for decoration on the walls, floor, and columns. A hypothetical citizen would not be entering the baths during the evening, as the baths would generally close at dusk, a citizen would instead arrive earlier in the day. a would most likely find themselves within a changing room called the apodyterium where they would disrobe. After disrobing, the citizen then had a wide selection of destinations which he could select from. Roman Baths being a social gathering provided all manners of entertainment. Depending upon the bath in question, amenities such as libraries, gardens, or lecture halls to name a few. The key portion of the baths however is the baths themselves. Inside the baths there was three primary baths. the citizen would generally transition from the hot bath "Calidarium" to the warm bath "Tepidarium", both of which used a heating system of lighting fires and channeling the hot air through the hypocaust, the area underneath the floor. then finally the citizen would make it to the unheated pool, the frigidarium, which was generally located in the center of the baths. Beyond bathing the citizen would have the ability to work out in the
It was so much more advanced than any empire that came before this time. Romans took a lot of pride in their their buildings and architecture and many of the structures they used back then are still used today, like columns and arches. The Romans used columns and arches in structures like the colosseum and the Circus Maximus, both which were buildings where gladiatorial games or chariot races were held. These structures are still used today, for example, you can see these structures at one of the most famous buildings in the United States, the White House. The architecture from the roman era has impacted modern day by giving us structures to add into our cultures and to important buildings around our
The ancient Romans were skilled engineers and have left lasting contributions in this field. The Romans built a great network of roads connecting cities throughout their empire. They also built aqueducts and bridges using arches for support. The Roman arch design was by far the most important innovation of their time. The arch, however, would have been useless without the discovery of concrete. The Romans had many other such discoveries that would make their engineering skills known throughout the world.
As the story goes, Rome was founding in 753 B.C. by two brothers Remus and Romulus who were raised by wolves. The two brothers started fighting over the leadership of the land. Eventually Romulus killed Remus and took control own his own. The city was only a small settlement at that time. As the civilization grew, the Etruscans took over. The Romans drove out the Etruscans in 509 B.C. By this time Rome had become a city. As the empire came to its peak it included lands throughout the Mediterranean world. Rome had first expanded into other parts of Italy and neighboring places during the Roman Republic, but made wider conquests and made a strong political power for these lands. In 44 BC Gaius Julius Caesar, the Roman leader who ruled the Roman Republic as a dictator was assassinated. Rome descended into more than ten years of civil war. After years of civil war, Caesar's heir Gaius Octavius (also known as Octavian) defeated his last rivals. In 27 B.C. the Senate gave him the name Augustus, meaning the exalted or holy one. In this way Augustus established the monarchy that became known as the Roman Empire. The Roman Republic, which lasted nearly 500 years, did not exist anymore. The emperor Augustus reigned from 27 BC to AD 14 and ruled with great power. He had reestabl...
The empire that the Roman’s built can be argued to have been the greatest in world history. The Roman Empire controlled the largest land area in European history and influenced a huge region, acting as a cultural center for the entire continent of Europe. Their strength derived from their prowess and skill on the battlefield. The Roman Army was extremely effective and became the basis of our military structure today by utilizing technological advances in strategy and weaponry, and simply having more discipline.
Although, many might say that the Roman Empire was already very successful even without the Greek influence, the Romans were already known for their very great army. The Romans were able to conquer so many lands and keep a great structure to the point where other communities feared them because of their army. It is true, Rome was already very successful they had conquered many lands before the Hellenistic period, and were already known to be a very rich and powerful community. Just as Chris Truman states on the website the History learning site where du...
First at all, in 753 BCE, the two brothers Romulus and Remus founded Rome, which was the origin of Roman Empire. Similarly with the other state in the peninsula, Rome was a state of the monarchy and the first king of Rome was Romulus. The Italian peninsula was in a long warfare for hundred years between states and Latin communities. Not exclusively, enemies surrounded Rome and the small state did not seem likely to become a great empire later. However, Rome located on the seven hills and deeply inland, so it had great perspective over the enemies’ attacks. With the strategic location, Rome was taking advantage to defend its city, so after hundred years in warfare

The Roman sculptures have a close relation and influence of Greek sculptures. Rome was known for incorporating different aspects of other cultures; the style of clothing, architecture, military techniques, art, etc. to the Roman culture. The Bust of Cicero and Augustus of Prima Porta are examples of unbelievable statuary techniques and style that Rome achieved and improved as their own art.
