In the United States, you are considered an adult at 18-years old. With age comes a plethora of other privledges. You can drive at 16 with a proper drivers license, legally engage in intercourse at 17, vote and purchase cigarrettes at 18 and purchase and consume alcohol at 21. Although there is one age restriction that hasn't been set in stone. In the justice system, one may be considered an adult at 18 and be tried as such. The option of being tried as an adult hangs on many circumstances. If the individual commited a serious crime, such as armed robbery, rape, or murder, then they may be tried as an adult. If the individual was tried as an adult in an earlier case, then they will continue to do so indefinetly. The prosecuter or judge may be given the option of how they want the individual to be tried. The adult age requirement in the US is 18 years old by law. If you are under the age of 18, you cannot vote, rent a hotel room, or even purchase a lottery ticket and you are considered a minor. In some cases though minors are convicted as adults, go to adult prison, and get life without parole. In juvenile court, the judge must decide if the teen gets tried as an adult or minor. If the juvenile gets sent to a juvenile detention center for murder they will live their lives there until they are twenty one, but if tried as an adult they will serve so many years in prison. There is a grey area of law for certain teens that commit serious crimes. In this case of the grey law, each state gets to decide upon the particular state how they person is tried. For most cases pertaining to the juvenile courts are case by case bases. Many believe that it isn’t fair for the teens to be locked up with adults. The U.S. House of Representatives made the Juvenile Justice Act encouraging states to find alternatives to having the teens go through such a process with people much older than themselves (Locked Up…).
Cognition is the process involved in thinking and mental activity, such as attention, memory and problem solving. In this essay on cognitive development I will compare and contrast the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky, who were both influential in forming a more scientific approach to analyzing the cognitive development process of the child active construction of knowledge. (Flanagan 1996 P.72). I will then evaluate the usefulness of these theories in understanding a child's development.
The United States has been affected by a number of crimes committed by juveniles. The juvenile crime rate has been increasing in recent years. Everyday more juveniles commit crimes for various reasons. They act as adults when they are not officially adults. There is a discussion about how juveniles should be punished if they commit heinous crimes. While many argue that juveniles who commit serious crimes, such as murder, should be treated as adults, the fact is, juveniles under the age of eighteen, are not adults, and should not be treated as such.
Cognitive development is best described as how a person's thought process develops, and how these thought processes impact how we comprehend and interact in the world (Cherry, 2014). As a person progresses through life from childhood to adulthood, the manner to which they take in knowledge and mature is the basic theory of cognitive development.

In our society the criminal justice system is kinda broken sole attention being on criminalization and incarceration instead of rehabilitation. For example juvenile offenders ,as we know young people don’t take to authority to well especially not members of criminal justice branch ,which can have last consequences on their future. Therefore if those same children are treated reasonably and not forgotten by the criminal justice and are given second chance to be rehabilitate, then they can become constructive members of society. Cognitive- Cognitive development is the development of a child 's skills. It focuses more on pushing more information into a child so that they can try and retain as much as possible. In early stages of children cognitive development plays a large role in the development of language, as well as developing their perceptual skill.

Cognitive development refers to how the brain develops, it is not just about what we know, it is how we see and interpret the world. One theorist, Piaget, wrote that children develop cognitively through the interaction of their experiences of the world and the process of “growing up” or becoming more mature. They actively select information from their environment and try to understand. As a child grows their language develops, as does their ability to reason, and they start to put things in a different perspective.
