What is an Anthropologist and what is their role? An Anthropologist is someone who practices or studies anthropology, which is the study of humans. In other words, they are people who are trying to understand humans and why they do the things that they do. There are many topics to do with Anthropology that people study such as different tribes around the world or even peoples cultures. The role of an Anthropologist is to study the behaviors and what makes people the way they are around the world, not just the present but the past and future as well. They take a close look at the subfields of Anthropology which are biological, linguistic, and cultural Anthropology, which is the studies of people but it all depends on where they live in the world

Language is what makes all of us different because we all have different languages we speak or accents as well. Not everyone can speak the same language or understand other languages then their own. That is why language is important we all need to communicate in someone right? Language is also used to understand culture. “Linguistic anthropologists are interested in how many languages there are distributed around the world, and their contemporary and historical relationships. They are also interested in language variation, why variations exist, how the variations are used, and what they mean when they are used in various context. Specializations at CSULB include language and education, language and gender, language loss, and many more different specializations. Everyday these anthropologists are study to find out more about cultural issues and solutions to everyday language” (Department of Anthropology, CSULB). As you can see language is one of the most important discovers today without it we would not be able to communicate with one and other. “Kathryn Ann Woolard was a linguistic anthropologist but her interests were in language ideologies and sociolinguistic issues in Catalonia. Cultures is also a big part of who we are as people and it makes us who we are. Also it defines us and how unique we are from other people around the world. “Cultural anthropology is the nature of human condition to live within structures of symbol, belief, and power of our own fashioning: religion, art, gender, war, ecosystems, race relations, kinship, ad so many others that they study. They use methods, concepts, and data of archaeology, ethnography and ethnology, folklore, and linguistics in its descriptions of the diverse people of the world” (Cultural Anthropology). This overall means that we all have different methods and ways of defining ourselves and culture with its celebrations, religion, art, and may others. We all have our own cultures. Studying cultural anthropology takes a lot of time because you have to have interviews and take surveys which is a method they call participation observation. “Steve Biko was a cultural Anthropologist who never forgot about the Black Consciousness Movement he was the most prominent leader and with others be his side they guided the movement into a political force unprecedented in the history of South Africa” (Steve Biko Foundation).
