The Marvel Cinematic Universe, also known as the MCU, is home to some of the most beloved characters in the entertainment industry. Actors who portray characters from popular comic books are often propelled to international stardom, because of the sheer popularity and the genuine like of the fictional characters they pretend to be. Additionally, it most definitely helps that the actors contain a universal appeal for not only their superb embodiment of a character but for their good looks. Two popular characters are Anthony Edward “Tony” Stark and Steve Rogers. Neither one of them have personalities that seem to mesh properly, as a result of their differing ideologies of the world. So, their friendship, though it may be meaningful, is also very complex. Although these two characters have a complicated history together and are polar opposites, they do have similarities— their occupation, loyalties, and relationships.
Tony Stark was captured by the terrorist organization, the Ten Rings, and was commissioned by them to build weapons. With his life on the line, Tony Stark created a weaponized suit of armor that he used to escape his captors and return home, becoming the superhero known as Iron Man (Iron Man (2008). Paramount, 2008. DVD). Stark used his armored suit to battle against terrorists and

defend his loved ones. Like Stark, Steve Rogers also had his life on the line, however, in contrast to Tony Stark his life was threatened by his numerous health problems (Captain America: The First Avenger.DVD). After undergoing an experiment, Rogers became a living, breathing weapon. He also used his newfound status to fight a terrorist organization, called HYDRA (Captain America: The First Avenger.DVD.). Both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers used their abilities to fight against an alien based force, called the Chitauri and their leader Loki, in order to save humanity (The Avengers. Dir. Joss Whedon. 2012. DVD.). Afterward, both joined the Avengers Initiative, a group of super-powered people who are responsible for keeping the world safe from internal and external forces. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers both have an unwavering devotion to the people they care for. Stark had a relationship with his secretary turned CEO, Pepper Potts, and he loved her enough to destroy what quickly became his life’s work—his Iron Man suits (Iron Man 3. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, 2013. DVD.). Stark additionally showed devotion to his best friend James Rhodes aka Rhodey. Instead of abandoning Rhodey after Vision inadvertently paralyzed him, Stark developed a new technology to help him walk again(Captain America: Civil War. Dir. Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, 2016. DVD.). Another example of Stark’s loyalty is that even though he resigned as an Avenger, he still wanted the Initiative to continue, so he provided money, resources, and a new building that old and new members could train and live in. Steve Rogers’ devotion and loyalty are mostly applied to his childhood friend, Bucky Barnes. Both men served on a special forces team, called the Howling Commandos, together until an unfortunate accident seemingly killed Barnes. Rogers was devastated when he learned this, and Barnes’ death made the decision to save New York easier for him. In order to save the inhabitants of New York, Steve Rogers crashed his plane into the Arctic water, because he found out that his plane was carrying a bomb designed to annihilate millions of people(Captain America: The First Avenger.DVD.). Furthermore, he did not die, because the super soldier serum crystallized his bodily fluid, allowing him to enter a state of suspended animation ("Steven Rogers (Earth-616).”). When Steve Rogers was found, and then unfrozen by SHEILD in 2011, he was devastated to learn that all his friends were dead. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier storyline, after ripping the Winter Soldier’s mask off his face, he discovered that the Winter Soldier was actually his supposedly dead best friend, Bucky Barnes. Rogers was horrified that his friend did not remember him; during their final fight together, he reveals to the Winter Soldier, that he won’t fight him. Rogers utters the words that Bucky Barnes said to him, almost a century ago, “I'm with you 'til the end of the line.”(Captain America: The Winter Soldier.DVD.). Stark and Rogers also both have complicated relationships with their fathers.
Tony Stark said this about his father, "He was cold, calculating, never told me he loved me, never even told me he liked me, so it's a bit hard for me to digest that he said the whole future is riding on my thing, I don't get that! You're talking about a man whose happiest day of his life was shipping me off to boarding school”(Iron Man 2. Paramount Home Entertainment, 2010. DVD.). Although Steve Rogers never said anything like this about his father, research into his family history shows that his father, Joseph Rogers, was an alcoholic who abused his son and wife ("Steven Rogers
(Earth-616).”). Although Tony Stark and Steve Rogers can be compared to the Yin and Yang, polar opposites, they still manage to have three things in common. First, they both have the occupation of an Avenger. They also both spent their time before becoming an Avenger fighting terrorist forces. Second, both men have an unwavering devotion to the people that they love. Rogers shows this when he tells his brainwashed friend, Bucky Barnes, that no matter what happens he’s with him “ ‘til the end of the line”. Third, and finally, both men have complicated relationships with their fathers. So, even though, they may not see eye to eye, they both have more in common with one another than they think.
In the end, Tony plays the role of both hero and villain. His wife, Marcela, represents both the whore and the virgin Mexican-American. The both prove unfaithful: Tony to America and Marcela to Mexico. Herein lays the schizophrenic world in which good and bad coexist across the borders of two emerging world countries struggling for control of land and culture. There’s a price to be paid for such human greed and unrealistic expectations. Ultimately it proves to be a place where virtue doesn’t remain intact and villains abound, even among the good guys!
Tony Stark and Hamlet also have the ability to self-destruct. During the third Iron Man Tony Stark instructs J.A.R.V.I.S. to take him to a rural area because he will not have the power to make it home. This then lands him with a ten-year-old boy and a power suit with no power. This shows his self-destructive behavior because he into issues with the Mandarin people leading to not having enough power to make it back. He also had to rely on the young boy to make it back to California and to his girlfriend (Black).
Consequently, Peggy and Sharon Carter represent the American Dream whereas Captain America and his mother are examples of bad things happening to good people – a tragedy.
Steve Rogers starts this movie as the underdog. He is weak and ill, but still has a fight within him to become a strong, powerful solider. In the first quarter of the movie, we watch as Steve Rogers gets belittled and beaten. We see Steve Rogers get into a fight with a complete stranger, and thankfully, Bucky comes to the rescue. Secondly, while Agent Carter and Steve were on the way to the lab, Steve points out every spot he has gotten beat up, which was quite a few. This makes the audience feel sorry for him for getting hurt so often. This makes the audience root for the underdog and hope that he
As times change for the types of warfare, also does the transportation, the armor, as well as the weaponry. From the caveman era with rocks wrapped with veins around a stick followed by the renaissance era with archers and swords. Then came the conquest of the Americas with single-round guns and light clothing, now today with automatic multi-round rifles and bulletproof armor. Some wonder what is next in the development of military technology such as weaponry and armor. Marvel’s Iron Man takes a much detailed look from the government, after the first movie as Tony Stark (Main Character in the comic and in the movies) creates a suit that gives him superhuman abilities, bulletproof metal, health monitoring system, the ability to fly, and many other things. Many fans of the Iron Man trilogy dream of the day when science fiction becomes reality. Officials from U.S. Special Operation Command issued a formal request to researchers to help them build this suit the military is calling the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS). As the Army prepares for future wars, they want to research the Iron Man suit and develop a working suit by 2018. Even though the cost of building an Iron Man suit is too expensive, but the armor would help protect soldiers from the serious injuries of war by the medical/technological advancements, the abilities it gives to the operator, also it would change warfare.
Tony soprano is the main character of the show. He is the boss of the soprano crime family and his life is divided into two sections. His family life and his criminal life. Even though they are mixed, both provide a separate view of Tony soprano as a man. At home, he lives with wife Carmela, son Anthony, and daughter meadow. His family, while at times dysfunctional, manages to stick together. He constantly cheats on his wife and doesn’t spend much time with his children. Meadow leaves the family to go to collage and Anthony Jr. struggles to make it through out high school. Even thought Tony shows consistent disappointment of Anthony Jr., it doesn’t come close to the emotions he has toward his mother. She mistreated Tony as a child and provided nothing but bad memories. His experience with his mother might have let him to posses a subconscious hatred for females, which he displays by only viewing them as sex objects. Tony didn’t have a bad relationship with his father growing up, but that’s because he always blamed his mother. His uncle Jr., conspired with Tony’s mom to kill him after he was out of jail. This, and other events, let to they’re lack of communication.
Mankind is always advancing its’ technology. The arc reactor technology is a vital part of the Iron Man story because it not only keeps Tony Stark alive but also provides power to his suit. “The most similar device that has been made is the ITER fusion reactor which mashes isotopes together to make atoms which then can be used to create energy” (Quora). The energy the reactor makes is then used to power Mr. Stark’s greatest weapon, the iron man suit. The iron man suit is the tool that Tony Stark uses to vanquish his enemies throughout the series. In Tony’s journey there are various stages which he must endure which include the call, answer, guide, threshold, trials, brother battle, rescue, and finally master of two worlds.
