Police Brutality Rodney King. A story many people know. King was a victim of the L.A. Police brutality. A video showed Mr. King being beaten during his arrest. The video clearly shows a defenseless King being viciously attacked. King suffered a fractured facial bone, a broken right ankle, and multiple bruises and lacerations. As the officers took King to the hospital they bragged to the nurses and doctors about how many times they hit king. Four police officers were charged with excessive use of force. Three of the police officers were full acquitted and the jury failed to reach a verdict on the others. This was the first big case of police brutality that caused an uproar. What is police brutality?
Police brutality is the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians. Excessive use of force means a force well beyond what would be necessary in order to handle a situation. This is normally a physical act against someone. An ongoing problem with this has been seen against African Americans. Police have mistreated African Americans for a long long time. This is a problem because People all over the U.S. black and white feel devastated, mad, sad, and scared. When the same thing keeps happening it becomes a social problem. As unarmed black men keep getting assaulted by police and the media keeps reporting it people see it as a problem. It is a problem because the police officers who do this aren’t being convicted for anything. They are all found not guilty and get off scot free. People see this and become outraged. This causes riots and protests. In these riots business, house, and car all get burned to the ground and looted. Innocent people are attack and injured. Police officers are attacked and injured.
