In 1994 “The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act” is a law produced in results of the Rodney King incident (Ross). The Rodney King case was impacting that they decided to make some changes and allowed Department of Justice to investigated powers and prosecutorial authority in case of alleged use of excessive force (Ross).The Department of Justice now has the authority to look beyond the acts of an individual officer, police department affairs and file civil action (Ross).Since October 1996, the DOJ has conducted 47 investigation of law enforcement agencies and there about 17 ongoing investigation (Ross). The law made sure anyone in a Criminal Justice program follow the proper procedures and making sure an officer collects adequate data. Some of the most significant provisions of the bill included several Substantive Criminal Provisions, Immigration Initiatives, and Granted Programs for 1996-2000. Substantive Criminal Provisions included assault weapons it bans the manufacture of 19 military-style assault weapons, assault weapons with specific combat features, “copy-cat” models, and certain high-capacity ammunition magazines of more than ten rounds. Death Penalty expands the Federal death penalty to cover about 60 offenses, including terrorist homicides, murder of a Federal law enforcement officer, large-scale drug trafficking, drive-by-shooting, and resulting in death. Firearms licensing which allow licensing standards for firearms. Fraud which allow new insurance and telemarketing frauds and expands to help fraud committed against elderly (Violet Control Act and law enforcement).
