Obstacles exist to make people stronger. Eight years ago, a permanent transformation took place in my life when my parents decided to go through a lengthy process of divorce. My world came crashing down; what was once a picture-perfect family quickly evolved to a perpetual controversy. After all the papers were signed and the deals were made, they split. I was an emotional wreck. I broke down, submerged in tears, I latched onto my mom’s leg refusing to let go. I am the middle child in the family, accompanied by my older brother Andrew and younger sister Madi. Over the years, Madi and I have formed an eternal bond. Each week we go about the same schedule, bouncing back and forth between houses together. Andrew and I on the other hand, are not as close. My mother aforementioned he could visit her whenever, yet suggested that it would be best if he stayed with my dad full time. He was emotionally shattered when no battle was fought for his custody. With that said, I have a hunch that Andrew suffers from a low self esteem issue, due to our mother’s lack of affection. In tu...
Looming obstacles in the life of an individual serve as molds which instill perseverance, hard work in an individual's identity and bring hope for the future.
While buried, so deep beneath the cavity of adversity, finding hope is nearly impossible. But, it is the ability of decisions that aids as the last gleam of hope retrievable. After facing many struggles, it becomes almost involuntary for someone to put up a guard. With using that strategy, and the transgression of time without progress, there’s a certain ignition of comprehension. Change needs to occur, and a complete remedy of that
Growing up, life wasn't easy. As a result of these adversities, I've been able to not only see, but personally experience, having a constant battle in my life. The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
Lastly I’ll tell you about my oldest step-brother Ty. Ty and I may not be related by blood, but we have similar personalities at times. Ty is a junior in college, and he loves fishing, hunting, football, and just about any other “guy” activity. He is so in love with football that he’s going to school to be a teacher just so he can coach football. He has always been protective of me when it comes to boys, but I like knowing that he cares. I can always count on Ty to put a smile on my face, but then again, it’s more likely he’ll be picking on me instead.
My family had moved to Oregon when I was 7 into hunter’s run apartments and we moved AGAIN when I was 9 to SW Bonnie Meadow Ln, into a fairly nice house. Now, as older children do when they have younger siblings, I didn’t get much attention, but I did have many more responsibilities. Most of which were chores or keeping an eye on my brother, John, and my sister, Mikayla. Mikayla was by all means the closest to me at the time and John was just my younger brother whom my mother adored. Our relationships, however do change but that’s
If everyone thinks that without struggle, it is easy to obtain their goals that is entirely false. Struggle comes from the progress of our success and achievement. It is an indication that we poured all of our time and patience into the things we pursue. Jeannette Walls, the author of The Glass Castle, explain her struggles. She survives by finding foods from the trash can and earns money by babysitting, exchanging scrap metal, finding jobs, and from her parents. As a graduating student from high school, receiving my diploma is an indication that I ...
There’s an event in everyone's life that changes you, whether it be a simple hello or a death in the family. Tragically, mine begins with my mother marrying her second husband. The lessons I learned from this man shaped me into the person I am today. I came from a bad situation and he took my family in and and showed me that not every man is the same. Perseverance, the ability to forgive, and willingness to change your life for the better are just some of the things he taught me. If it weren’t for the little talks we had I wouldn’t be hopeful that I am, that I will turn my life around.
In Cormac McCarthy’s novel The Road “the man” and “the boy” refer to themselves as “the good guys” compared to “the bad guys”. While reading this book I was lead to believe that “the boy” is truly the only “good guy” left, because “the man” and every other character that I encountered in this book share some of the same qualities as “the bad guys”.

Throughout the entirety of my life I always have and always will face obstacles: I am a girl, I am African-American, I have a disabled brother, I have a single parent. Though these aspects of my life have created challenges, I am proud of who I am and I love my life. These challenges have molded my character and shaped me to be the person I am today and without these obstacles, I might not have been as driven to succeed, despite what has happened in my life that may have caused me to
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.

People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
