Nigel Lewis INART 116 Rocking a Nation One Song at a Time Upon thinking about which genre of music made the most prominent impact on American culture, it is very clear that Rock n Roll is the front runner. Rock n Roll music made a huge impact on American culture for a plethora of reasons. These reasons include a new lifestyle, a prominent fan base, and a new more free sense of expression that was unlike any other during that time. Aside from the impact that Rock n Roll had on American Culture it was seen as so innovated and new during the beginning, that it was even banned from certain radio stations and cities. For instance Motley Crue, a prominent Rock n Roll group at that time, debuted a song coined “Anarchy in the U.K.” This song was full of suggestions to rise up against the government. For instance the lyrics “Anarchy for the USA/It’s coming sometime, maybe/Give the wrong time/Stop a traffic line/Your future dream is a shopping scheme/’Cause I wanna be, anarchy/Well it’s only way to be. (Anarchy In the UK)” This song was actually banned being played in the US at the time due to the lyrics. Furthermore another prominent Rock n Roll musician, Bobby Darbin, sang about freedom of expression via nudity in his famous song “Splish Splash.” “And then a-splish, splash/I jumped back in the bath/Well, how was I to know/There was a party goin’ on? (Splish Splash)” This songs mention of nudity was so obscure for the time period that it was written that it was actually banned from the radio and was not allowed to be played in public places. All in all the lyrics of Rock n Roll music lead to a more prominent notion of freedom of expression in America which was the main reason for Rock n Roll’s cultural
