Robin Williams the Father of Modern Comedy Without the humor of comedians all of our lives would be a living sinkhole of misery and depression; one of the most relieving comedians of our time was Robins Williams. His comedy was very light, but his acting was very heavy. It could range for audiences of all ages, but yet have jokes only those of a certain age could understand. Without the comic humor of Robin Williams we would be stuck in the comical age of the early fifties. In the Movie Patch Adams the belated actor said the following, "What's wrong with death sir? What are we so mortally afraid of? Why can't we treat death with a certain amount of humanity and dignity, and decency, and God forbid, maybe even humor. Death is not the enemy …show more content…

Paul Deburge film critic was even moved by the performances of the comical titan he even said,”It was Dead Poet Society that did it. That was the movie that pushed me over from a casual moviegoer to a full-blown movie junkie, the one that sent me back to the video store night after night looking for my next fixed, desperate to discover other movies that could make me feel the same way.” This comical genius was even able to inspire a younger generation through his several movies in child appropriate movies such as; Aladdin, Night at the Museum and Flubber just to name a few(Deburge). Although modern science has allowed us to develop many complex medicines, laughter is still the strongest one available in the real world and in the book. Laughter proves to be a strong medicine in more ways than one and is completely free, allowing anyone to use it at anytime. It allows us to connect socially with people, it can be used as a way of overthrowing power, and it is good for your health. As Randle McMurphy showed in the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, laughter can lighten the mood in the darkest situations.
What is the most common perception held in this country concerning the people and the way they live in the South? The perception most of the country has about life down here in the South is one of slow-paced living, simple-minded people, and stubborn, unwarranted pride. One of the best ways to combat this perception is through the use of humor; Lewis Grizzard was one of the best at this, because he could take the experiences from his own life as well as the lives of others in the South and turn them into humorous semi-fictional stories. He was one of the preeminent fictional authors this country has ever seen because of his ability to connect with people and joke about everyday life in the south, without offending the subjects of those jokes, despite the popular opinion the rest of the country held.

Humor is more than just amusing entertainment to pass the time. Though jokes and witty banter can be shallow, humor can go deeper than surface level to convey messages to audiences who would otherwise be close-minded about certain ideas. Humor is a great tool to get audiences to change the way they think, feel, and act. In “Saying Goodbye to Yang,” Alexander Weinstein uses humor to criticize some of society’s faults such as the way it has become heavily reliant on technology, racially insensitive, and judgmental.

His first taste of success was making an appearance on "Laugh In" in the late 70s. Williams then appeared as "Mork from Ork" on an alien episode of "Happy Days. " Mork was so popular the Garry Marshall produced a spin-off series featuring Robin Williams and Pam Dawber as "Mork and Mindy. " The sitcom was an overnight success, and Mork's catch phrase "Nanu-Nanu" appeared everywhere.
Adam Sandler has been a box-office draw for a decade now, with hardly a dip in fortunes since he first parlayed his break on TV's Saturday Night Live into a string of hit films. From the get-go Sandler was good on jokes about sports, six-packs and the need to stop goofing off and start playing nice with women. He made his success without any support from critics, many of whom seemed to find the frat-house element of his shtick so ghastly as to inoculate them against its sweet and silly aspects. It is unlikely that Sandler cares much for the views of festival-going connoisseurs, though he served notice on their carps by his seamless crossover into Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love (2002). "I wanted to work with Sandler so much," Anderson said. "I love him… He's always made me laugh."
Danny DeVito’s acting range is undoubtedly impressive, as can be seen from his wide range of films he has been in from Batman Returns where he is a grotesque -- almost a horror-like -- villain to his role in The Lorax where he is a tree loving creature that wants to protect the environment (Danny Devito). The differences in these roles exhibit what amazing range DeVito Brings to the table when acting, showing he can be a grotesque monster who dwells within the sewers and eats raw fish (Batman Returns) or a loveable, nature advocating, orange rolemodel for children who speaks for the trees (Lorax). This variety of roles he has been able to portray is astounding, acting in more than 50 movies, he is also clearly able to pull off these roles well, executing almost every role to its fullest potential, as a great actor does. His acting range on television is just as impressive, such as his role on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia with a more comedic tone, at one point becoming a wrestler named The Trash Man, compared to appearing on Sesame Street being an effective teacher for children and entertaining them (Danny DeVito). From his more raunchy acting pursuits on television, he is able to pull off the timing and punchlines of the show perfectly week after week. As for his appearance on Sesame Street, his softer, more gentle side is able to be brought forth for children, making him a perfect candidate for that aswell. His nearly twenty series he has been in speaks to how valued an actor he really is, as many people tune in every week in order to view his acting prowess. When describing DeVito’s early years, he is described as “DeVito’s performances play to this softening, employing his ability ability to slide between naturalism and cartoonish excess,” (Danny DeVito). Writers at the time such as Aristophanes and Menander wrote comedy similarly to how we do today, mocking politicians, fellow writers, and Greek philosophers (Mark Cartwright). The word ‘comedy’ is derived from Middle English, from Medieval Latin comoedia, from Latin, ‘drama with a happy ending’ (Merriam-Webster). This joyful type of performance may be why we commonly use the word ‘comedy’ to talk about jokes, humor, and hilarious performers. Comedy is meant to bring us joy and relief from reality’s negativity. Mary O’Hara wrote about comedy for a BBC article titled “How Comedy Makes us Better People”: “Comedy is more than just a pleasant way to pass an evening, humour more than something to amuse. They’re interwoven into the fabric of our everyday existence. Whether you’re sharing an amusing story down the pub, making a self-deprecating joke after someone pays you a compliment or telling a dark joke at a funeral, humour is everywhere. (O’Hara)” This is certainly an accurate statement about modern comedy. Comedy is not sadness, but rather a way to forget the woes of everyday life. What is the point in humorous incidents and ridiculous jokes if they do not make a person smile or laugh so hard their gut
