“Black Awakening in Capitalist America”, Robert Allen’s critical analysis of the structure of the U.S.’s capitalist system, and his views of the manner in which it exploits and feeds on the cultures, societies, and economies of less influential peoples to satiate its ever growing series of needs and base desires. From a rhetorical analysis perspective, Allen describes and supports the evidence he sees for the theory of neocolonialism, and what he sees as the black people’s place within an imperial society where the power of white influence reigns supreme. Placing the gains and losses of the black people under his magnifying glass, Allen describes how he sees the ongoing condition of black people as an inevitable occurrence in the spinning cogs of the capitalist machine.

You see two restaurants both across the street from each other, one with visible, well-lit name board stating BJ’s with a nice ambiance; however, across from the street you see mom & pop restaurant with low lighting, door steps covered with dry leaves, and non-visible signage stating Michele Fish & Chips. Which restaurant will you most likely join? Obliviously BJ’s because of its appeal, and welcoming environment for you. See how this scenario grabs the reader 's attention this shows how storytelling impact our minds and point out important issues and scenarios that we usually don’t see. The article, “The Secrets of Storytelling: Our Love for Telling Tales Reveals the Workings of the Mind” under Rhetorical analysis is written by Jeremy Hsu. Robert Kegan states there are two theories of knowledge: developmentalism and constructivism that support his constructive-developmental theory. Developmentalism “proposes that the way in which people make meaning can develop over time and across the lifespan. (Kegan 18-5). Humans are constantly developing and will continue to develop. Kegan says there are six stages of development in which adolescent and adults develop. For adolescence and adulthood stages 2-4 are the most important which includes imperial, interpersonal, and self-authoring orders (Kegan 18-5). I believe I fall under Stage 3, the interpersonal order of mind. Stage 3 is for people who understand the needs of the team are greater than personal needs. I was granted a special

Thomas has a distinctive way of sharing his stories: he shuts his eyes every moment before he begins his journey, as if he is envisioning the story inside of his mind and reliving the event he elaborates on. As he goes through each particular event, Thomas’s facial expressions conveys exactly how he feels during the moments. His features light up because of his excessive joy of the memory and he proceeds to dramatically recount his memory to audience, in hopes they receive his story well and enjoy it. The pleasure he takes in recalling his memories is related as to why people tell stories themselves--it is because it invokes pleasant feelings of nostalgia. People tell stories because they want to share a snippet of their lives or the lives of loved ones with others, and in result, they also have the opportunity to reflect on their memories. Moreover, The way the audience gives an account of Thomas’s stories also correlates to Lisel Mueller’s quote (stated in the previous paragraph) which shows how every story can be told differently. People paraphrase, using their own similes and comparisons to tell their version of the story. Comparing their version to the original,

Prufrock isn't your classic heroic alpha-male. He is symbolic of the modern man. Prufrock is overeducated, fearful, overly sensitive, articulate and poetic. He ponders about missed opportunities and questions unanswered about the opposite sex. This is the modern man, not strong and silent but vulnerable and accessible. He represents the modern man by openly displaying disillusionment and vulnerability. Eliot personally feels that modern man has an exiguous view on the quality of life and the truly important things. His character, J. Alfred Prufrock, represents all characteristics of a modern man that Eliot loathes. For example, Prufrock is obsessed with appearance and age and he exhibits deficient communication skills.
Out of all of the short stories we read this semester I would say my all time favorite would be "Gary Keillor” by Garrison Keillor. This is my favorite because a lot about this story I can relate to. "Never give up on beauty. Never compromise your standards out of fear that someone may not understand." (Keillor 429) I feel like this quote helped Gary go through with actually doing the talent show. Even though the students laughed at him, he at least needed one person to tell him something like that. Gary finally got payback on Bill at the talent show. Bill was kind of a bully to Gary, always making fun of him treating him like he is not perfect. After Gary messed with Bill's talent show act it was time for Gary to mess up Bill's act.
Krik? Krak! is a book with a set of stories which somehow seem to go in a cycle and could be related and linked to each other . Material culture have been evolving with the spread through the upper class to the middle class. “Proper manner” were inspired by kings, queens, and the nobility which inspired guides for it. As a result, it eventually stuck with the Americans as it went through the social classes. Hats were tipped to show respect during George Washington’s days but still continues during Krimmel’s with his painting showing a guest tipping his hat. These items that were in the painting served to show good manners. One item that is missing was a carpet that was an adornment rarely used during 1813. Carpets may seem like it’s required today but there was a reason it wasn’t used. Going outdoors coated shoes with mud or dirt that would destroy the carpets. We also
