In the article “Origin Myths,” author Robert Carneiro wrote about why people believed in the myths, how it corresponds with science but is not scientifically correct, and he also wrote about the myths themselves. They begain of his article Carneiro wrote about the questions we have with the myths and the human became to live on the surface. He also wrote about how everyone and every religion has way to explaining things around us and what happens after we die, but no one has actually seen these thing. Carneiro also explain how science is related with the myths and how it not. The myths only use one part of science and that is explaining. The myths explain about 99% of the world and how it works.

“The documentary tradition as a continually developing “record” that is made in so many ways, with different voices and vision, intents and concerns, and with each contributor, finally, needing to meet a personal text” (Coles 218). Coles writes “The Tradition: Fact and Fiction” and describes the process of documenting, and what it is to be a documentarian. He clearly explains through many examples and across disciplines that there is no “fact or fiction” but it is intertwined, all in the eye of the maker. The documentarian shows human actuality; they each design their own work to their own standards based on personal opinion, values, interest and whom they want the art to appeal to. Coles uses famous, well-known photographers such as Dorthea Lange and Walker Evans, who show the political angle in their documentations and the method of cropping in the process of making the photo capture exactly what the photographer wants the audience to view. In this paper I will use outside sources that support and expand on Coles ideas with focus on human actuality, the interiority of a photograph, and the emotional impact of cropping.
Paul Tillich’s description of the original understanding of the word myth as an account of an interaction between the human and the divine are that myths are symbols of faith, which tell stories to portray situations of ultimate concern. Myths may be ‘broken’ or ‘unbroken.’ Unbroken myths are myths which are accepted as literal statements of reality. Broken myths are myths which are interpreted as myths, as symbolic statements of reality.
In the article “Genesis 1 and Ancient Egyptian Creation Myths,” researcher Gordon H. Johnston reiterates the conclusions that A. H. Sayce, A. S. Yahuda have reached about the comparisons of Genesis 1 and Egyptian creation myths (Johnston, 180). Johnston postulates that there are undoubtedly strong similarities and connections between Genesis 1 and Egyptian creation myths (Johnston, 180). Johnston noted that these earlier analyses were overlooked and not accepted due to various reasons; easily accessible Mesopotamian materials, the assumption that Genesis 1 should be classified as a Priest source, ignorance of the Hebrew bibles’ Egyptian origins, and misunderstanding of the Egyptians terminology when analyzing creation ideas (Johnston, 179).
Myths – as they are known to most of the world – give insight into the pasts of various countries and religions as the people saw them. They have been used to explain phenomena in nature or describe the tales of courageous and important men and women throughout history. Creation myths in particular define how the Earth itself was created, along with the universe, heavens, hell, people, and creatures that exist today. Genesis of Christian mythology, for instance, tells the story of how the single deity God spoke and formed everything from day and night to man and woman. Various African creation myths, such as with the Yoruba, explain the creation of the Earth through at least a couple gods working together and all life sprouting from a seed.
Throughout the world there are various cultures with varying religions and creation stories to explain the creation of the Earth and it’s inhabitants. Of these creation stories two with similar and also different characteristics is the Creation story in the book of Genesis which is a part of the 1st Testament in the Hebrew Bible and explains the creation of Earth and humans, and the Theogony which is the greek creation story that describes the origins of the Earth and the Greek Gods. Both the Theogony and the Creation in Genesis show nature as a blessing for humans but it can also affect them negatively, However the myths differ in the ways that the Earth and humans were created and how humans interact with the deities of the creation stories.

Every ancient society and civilization has creation myths that were passed down and keep alive throughout the passing of time by word of mouth. These myths are the world’s oldest stories and are vital to these cultures because they explain their beginnings and give purpose to their existence. By analyzing and interpreting different creation myths it becomes easier to understand different cultures and their connections and relationships with heir beliefs and god(s).
In the Modoc creation story "When Grizzlies walked upright" the Chief of the Sky Spirits " made a big fire in the center of the mountain and a hole in the tops so smoke and sparks could fly out... sparks would fly out and the earth would tremble". The Modoc didn't understand what volcanoes were or how they work, so they incorporated it into their creation story to explain it. Similarly in the Onondaga creation myth, they used a story to explain how the earth was made and why the turtle has markings on its shell. In "The earth on Turtle's Back", the muskrat swim to the bottom of the ocean and pulled the earth up then placed it on the turtle's back. The use the story to explain this because they didn't have the technology to understand it. This is also shown in the Adam and Eve creation myth. God said, " it's not good for man to be alone; I'll make him a helper." God then put Adam into a deep sleep, and removed one of his ribs, and "replaced it with flesh" creating Eve, or "woman". The very early creation legends are difficult to trace to their original sources, since they were passed along by word of mouth from one generation to the next. There are many different legends about the origin of the earth, some similar to those told in other cultures. It is interesting that most of these legends can be tied together in one or more ways. The Greek and Inuit tribe versions of early existence are related in many ways.
The reflection of any culture defines the practicality of traditions, passed down from one generation to the next. These customs, which varies, interprets the central connection of the culture itself. Evidently, stories involving legendary figures, commonly known as myths, spreads throughout the civilization and not only captivate the attention of those who believes in these myths, but also provide a belief or a sense of dignity and honor of those representing their particular culture. Chinese mythology is evidential to this pattern. Although many records were not recorded in a systematic way, it is still a hefty amount of evidence of the myths collected by the Chinese. The legends ranged from characters such as dragons to gods who controlled different functions in China. Chinese mythology is further examined by exploring the nature of their deities and the effect on their religion. Chinese are known for their deep interpretation of the living and the mythical. In a philosophical manner, it balanced their way of viewing everyday life events and understanding the harmony between Mother Nature and humanity.
Throughout studying many myths, I came up with many new observations. Many questions came into my mind about these myths. Greek mythology takes us back to a time when people had a connection with nature and when nature played a major role in people’s lives. The religious beliefs of the people who wrote the myths are found in the background of these myths; however, they are not to be read like religious texts. The myths try to offer explanations of “how”, which makes us think deeply about the purpose of these myths and the questions they draw to our minds. According to the myths we studied in class, the world created the gods, not the other way around. The gods were always created in the image of man, which shows how much men were important in their society. Furthermore, many of these Greek myths show us the difference between the views of the Greek then and our view towards many aspects of the society, including nature. Monsters appear in Greek myths and have different representations and roles. Greek mythology reflects a view of the Greeks towards the world and how certain aspects of their lives are similar and different to modern society.
Now, unlike commonsense knowledge being used in your everyday life experiences, myths, which would be a falsely made stories or fairy tales, aren 't used in everyday life situations. Myths are stories people pass on down for generations, a story that is supposed to be magical or an opinion someone comes up with and passes it along as a true story.
