Robert A Jacobsen was born March 31, 1940 in Provo, Utah to Elmo and Phillis Jacobsen. Robert has three brothers, one older and two younger, but one of his younger brothers died shortly after birth due to complications. I had chosen my Grandfather because I thought that him becoming a surgeon would be a very interesting feat to learn about. I also thought that learning about what his childhood was like, which was 70 years before mine, and would show some very big differences. When my grandfather was a young child he lived in a restaurant by the name of Jake's Lunch for the first four years of his life. A big thing that had motivated him was his best friend's father who had been a family doctor and was very respected and looked up to by many families. When he was in sixth grade, Robert got sick with Rheumatic fever which causes fatigue, inability to exercise, fast heart rate, and joint inflation. His sickness lasted for three months, and at that time he had to take antibiotics and penicillin. This was a very hard part of Robert's life and had a big impact on him as a whole. These experiences where big parts of his life and had effected him as a whole. This made Robert want to become a doctor because the helplessness that he felt and wanted no other families to go through his hardships. While he was a ten year old boy, his older brother Gordon was drafted to fight in the Korean war when he was only nineteen. This was a very hard moment in Robert's life because he was very worried about his older brother not coming home okay. After a year in the war his brother ,Gordon, had come home ok from serving in the Korean war. Robert had known that he wanted to become a surgeon or a doctor, and he also knew that he had to take as many classes and activities as he could, in order to go to a good university. Robert had participated in many different activities that he had been told were important, and took all the classes that were needed for a good medical school. Robert had a professor that guided him by telling him all the classes to take to get into medical school. While in high school, he decided to do a lot of extra curricular activities in order to more easily get into college, such as playing in Band for all six years, being in the photography club, playing football, playing tennis, and was a senior class president. While in high school he had decided to be a working man and decided to work for some money to be able to buy his own
