Roads and Transport Authority (RTA Dubai) was formed in November 2005. It is responsible for the development, planning and execution of traffic projects and transport systems in Dubai city. It is also responsible for planning and providing transport between Dubai and other states of the UAE and neighboring countries. The primary duties of RTA also include preparing legislation, making rules and projects along with road systems and marine networks that are safe and economical with highest international standards. Dubai being amongst the most developed international cities makes necessary for the Government to provide high quality infrastructure facilities In order to do that, RTA was formed to provide an advanced transport network for the people of Dubai and enhance the public transport facilities by improving roads across the emirate to make travel safer and smoother Primary Responsibilities of RTA: • Transport by Buses • Transport by Taxis • Transport between Cities • Engineering and Roads development • Vehicles Registration • Vehicles Licensing • Drivers’ Licensing • Decoration and advertisement on roads • Parking Facilities • Dubai Metro RTA is committed to achieve the highest quality levels in its’ services/products and continually improve it to achieve RTA vision “safe and Smooth Transport for all” The Dubai RTA is “QMS ISO 9001:2008 certified” and works in line with & Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) to ensure its effectiveness within the frame work of the Quality Objectives. The metro reduces the use of cars and saves the environment from pollution of gas released from cars etc. Since the release of SALIK, it has been a success and has helped Dubai in many ways. It has reduced the traffic and especially during the morning road conjunctions. Every vehicle should have a SALIK tag especially if they are going to pass on roads where it is needed. There is a disadvantage we didn’t like about SALIK which is that if a person is going to pass the SALIK gate every day, this will cost him a lot and that’s why the RTA have launched the Dubai Metro . We hope to see more upcoming projects not only in Dubai but in all the emirates as it will help to control the traffic and protect people’s lives and to clean the environment.
