“I don't want to die in a car accident. When I die it'll be a glorious day. It'll probably be a waterfall.” (River Phoenix) River Phoenix may not have died in one of the best ways, a heart failure due to an overdose, but he did live a very interesting life. His life began August 23, 1970 in Madras, Oregon, and ended October 31, 1993 in front of the nightclub, the Viper Room in Los Angeles, California. River was an actor, musician and activist who got his start when he was only ten years old. Although River Phoenix died young, he lived a successful life, where he believed in and stood for many amazing things. Flea from the band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, had invited him there to sing with him on stage. River discovered he could not perform that night because there were already too many acts performing. He was with his girlfriend at the time, Samantha Mathis, Joaquin and Rain Phoenix. One of his friends came up to him and said “Hey, Riv, drink this, it’ll make you feel fabulous.” River decided to drink it even though he did not know what was in it. After drinking it, he instantly did not feel good. He asked his friend what was in it and found out it was cocaine and heroin. He took Valium to try and calm his stomach, but it did not work. He then became unconscious and his girlfriend decided to call a friend instead of the paramedics. After about 15 minutes River woke up and said that he wanted to go outside for some fresh air. Once he stepped outside with Joaquin he fell to the ground and started to have seizures. Rain sat on his body trying to restrain it and Joaquin called the paramedics. Some people walked past and did not do anything to help. When paramedics arrived, he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. They started to do CPR and inject Narcan to stop the effects of the drugs but it did not work. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital. He was pronounced dead an hour later at 1:51 a.m. (Edwards) In conclusion, River Phoenix had an unconventional childhood. He and his siblings traveled the world with their free-thinking and poverty-stricken parents. These early and hard years of his life shaped him into a caring and sensitive young man. He was adored and loved by many for possessing these attributes. Instead of remembering River Phoenix for the sordid way in which he died, he should be remembered for his acts of humanitarianism and the joy he gave people through his acting and musical
He wanted to reinvent himself and have a shot at making it big as a musician. It was not exactly instant success; he had several side jobs such as working at a liquor store and selling vacuums. After playing in a couple different bands for about five years, Nikki met drummer Tommy Lee and the two became quick friends. They set out looking for a guitar player and a singer. After finding Mick Mars and Vince Neil, Motley Crue was formed. The band became a huge success and the band was glorifying in the success. Nikki had made it, mansions, fast cars, and beautiful women all came along with the success of being in Motley Crue. The band was also regarded as one of the hardest partying bands of the time. However, this lifestyle was getting the best of Nikki, aside from the partying he became addicted to drugs. Aside from drugs like cocaine and copious amounts of alcohol, he became heavily addicted to heroin. This is when Nikki was creeping into his darkest depths, according to his autobiography The Heroin Diaries, he claims that “alcohol, cocaine…they were just affairs. When I met heroin, it was true love.” It says in the book that Nikki overdosed on heroin about six times. One of the times was when Nikki was hanging out with the Guns N Roses guitar player, Slash. After he overdosed, Slash’s girlfriend took him to the hospital where he was declared dead. In this situation Nikki claims to have seen himself

Phoenix Jackson was a free-spirited, caring, and gentle elderly Negro woman indeed. She lived only to save her grandson's life. Phoenix Jackson was a courageous and powerful woman of her time. She was determined and knew what she wanted in life. Phoenix may have had a few downfalls, but she always picked herself up and kept going at whatever she set out to accomplish. There may be a little of "Old" Phoenix Jackson deep down in all of us.
“When Elvis died results soon were identified several pharmaceutical drugs in Elvis’s system with codeine being ten times the therapeutic level. This started accusations of a cover-up and suggesting conspiracy theories of a sinister criminal act. Pushing 40 years after, modern medicine and forensics took a new look at the Presley case facts and indicated that something entirely different from a heart attack or a drug overdose really killed the King of Rock & Roll” (Rodgers). Many people believe that Elvis provoked to his fans that drugs were ok. Even though Elvis made a mistake, he has so many exceptional influences to cancel out that mistake. Wayne Dyer once said, “When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.” Elvis was a pleasing, religious, uplifting man. Do not judge him for personal mistakes he

Irrigation has been a significant part of Yuma County’s history, as it has affected the county and areas around it in several ways, and has been affected itself by Yuma’s ways to evolve to a more relevant and helpful operation. It has changed Yuma from a small farming community to an agriculturally efficient town. Technology has also had a hand in moving irrigation in Yuma forward, including beginning the Yuma Project which affected different groups of people over time. Irrigational development also benefited geographically from Yuma, creating more fitting irrigation systems. Ultimately, the development of irrigation was affected by the attributes of Yuma, and in turn affected Yuma County and southern Arizona itself by providing technological
Mention the name Elvis Presley and many things come to mind. Most people automatically think of music and the impact he had on the industry. Others think of his upbringing in the South and the years he spent singing Gospel tunes. Wild images of Graceland and Cadillacs are iconic when it comes to discussing Elvis. Through the years, his physical appearance changed drastically. From young and in excellent shape to older, larger, and showing the signs of poor lifestyle choices. Elvis singlehandedly changed the face of American music. He influenced an entire generation to break from long-held traditions. However, for all the incredible talent and charisma the man possessed, he could not break free from the addictions that plagued him in his later years. Moreover, sadly, many remember that as his last legacy.
The Mississippi River is one of the world 's extraordinary rivers. It is the longest in the United States, more than twenty-three hundred miles in length, as it structures the outskirts of ten states, just about bisecting the mainland (Currie,2003, 8). This waterway has a long history also, and it has touched the lives of numerous individuals. The Mississippi is said to start at Lake Itasca in Minnesota. In 1832, pilgrim Henry Schoolcraft named this lake, not after any neighborhood Indian name, but rather from the Latin words for "genuine head" which are veritas caput abbreviated to "Itasca" (Currie, 2003, 4). In any case, much sooner than its source was named it was a navigational waterway. The Indians who initially lived on the banks of the stream were known as the Mississippians. From 800 to 1500, these people groups utilized the waterway for exchange. They dug out
Yuma is a town in Southwest Arizona on the border of the California and Mexico. Going right through Yuma county is a large river called the Colorado River. With that water, farmers in Yuma and surrounding towns were starting to start farms and had irrigation. The thing was that the river was inconsistent and the farmers had problems with floods and droughts. This is how irrigation changed the complexion of Yuma and the Agricultural business.
Edwin was never without sorrow or regrets. His father, Junius Brutus, caught a severe cold on a ship from New Orleans, up the Mississippi River heading to Cincinnati. It caused him to become very thirsty and parched, and his father drank glasses of contaminated river water. On November 30, 1852, the famous actor died. Edwin was only nineteen years old when he heard the news, and it brought on waves of depression. Edwin developed a drinking habit trying to escape from his depression, much like his father. “Don’t waste that water! Kids in Africa don’t even have water to drink!” Almost every American has heard this saying before. We have heard this because there are water shortages in third world countries like Africa, as seen in the movie “Blue Gold”. But why have we developed this notion that there are only water shortages in third world countries? When in reality, there is a shortage of water right here in our home country. The Colorado River’s water is high in demand as it serves millions of people, powers industries, and is home to all different kinds of wildlife. The Colorado River will not be able to keep up with the increasing demand of water and soon enough the river will go dry. Organizations like the Colorado River Water Users Association are trying to change the way that the water is used and adjust how it is managed. The Colorado River is drying up and the western states are running out of water, however, public policy is trying to regulate and preserve the Colorado River to make it more sustainable in the future.
