While, the oil necessity continues to control the energy sector of the world, in addition it might require decades earlier than an innovative infrastructure for transportation, alternative energy supply distribution, and production is applied universally. Actually, the high prices of oil haven’t been the single purpose for great investments within the industry of oil refining. The regulatory variations of safety and environmental have strained this sector in purpose of enhancement certain processes of refinery to reduce those associated impacts of human and environment with the consumption of oil products alongside to the refinery operation. Thus, it is vital to discuss such kind of industry that produce fundamental products such as fuels, waxes, chemicals products, lubricating oils, plastics, beside several alternative products through refining the crude oil, to the society and at the same time that impacts the human and environment.

Goals and objectives

Perform a risk assessment and risk management approach in workplace for those hazards emitted via the industry of oil refinery. This assessment tends to discover all possible risks associated with such industry and suggest alongside finding out ways to mitigate those risks. Especially, the workers exposed to several hazards with several high intensity, frequency and concentration of chemical’s emissions and radiations.

There are different types of risk assessments depending on the nature of the place and for a refinery a comparative risk assessment was done as it includes of chemical, radiological and occupational risks. The risk assessment will then show if mitigating or preventing systems and controls are in place to avoid accidents. This will be taken care of through risk management, in which managers and executives will make decisions whether extra controls or systems should be developed and utilized for maintaining the safety of the people and the environment. After the risk assessment that was carried out for an oil refinery, this assessment included a risk management applying all control measures required for such hazards.
