Argumentative Essay for “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” Theme is a central message in a literary work, that can usually be expressed as a generalization about people or life. In the story, “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling, the theme is most definitely good versus evil. The text tells how when you’re doing things for the greater cause you’re more likely to succeed. This piece of text show how the characters were showing the act of doing something positive and negative. The author shows this through dialogue and the actions of the characters. As you read, you learn about the power of good versus evil and how it affects everyone. Although I am positively correct, I can understand where people could maybe say that the theme is bravery and loyalty pay off, but I strongly believe that it’s not. …show more content…
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, also known as the protagonist, was superior in multiple ways.
Rikki was protective, courageous, and loyal. He was protective because in the text, when Rikki had overheard Nag and Nagaina planning to kill the family he got furious. To be exact, “Rikki tingled all over with rage and haterage”. He was also protective because Rikki had saved the family’s life and was rewarded with the mother saying, “He saved our lives and Teddy’s life.” Last but not least, the mongoose was being protective when deep inside the work it stated, “Teddy’s mother and father came in, the last thing to look at their boy, and Rikki-tikki was awake on the pillows.: In conclusion, that was one way Rikki-tikki-tavi was good, by displaying
protection. To continue, Rikki was pleasing in another way. He was very courageous and loyal. As the text says, “ He was afraid for a minute, but it is impossible for a mongoose to stay frightened for any length of time.” That presents a lot of courage, because he was putting his own terror aside. Rikki seemed as courageous as a rock climber when the story stated, “Rikki-tikki smashed two eggs”. It takes courage for Rikki to destroy two baby cobra eggs, and know he’ll have to face the wrath of Nagaina. Protecting the family shows how loyal Rikki is to them. In all, Rikki-tikki-tavi had a lot of courage and loyalty to do what he did and suffer the consequences from doing something right. In contrast, Nagaina, also known as the antagonist, is evil. I know this because she was being very sinister towards Rikki when he said, “ If you move, I strike.” Nagaina was very devious and selfish as an evil mastermind. Most of all, she was determined. “ Come out and tell me and we will hunt for Rikki-tikki together.” These words from Nagaina to Nag shows her determination. These are my reasons for stating Nagaina is an evil animal. All in all, Kipling demonstrated the theme good versus evil to show the meaning and difference between the two. He shows protectiveness, loyalty, and courage towards others. When we to the opposite, we aren’t contributing, or making things better. Doing better things can make things better. For these statements, Rudyard Kipling gave his readers the mental and physical lesson of good versus evil. By:Kamesha Alexander-Beard
In To Kill a Mockingbird, the theme plays an important role during the course of the novel. Theme is a central idea in a work of literature that contains more than one word. It is usually based on an author’s opinion on a subject. The theme of innocence should be protected is found in conflicts, characters, and symbols. In To Kill a Mockingbird, a conflict that connects to the theme that innocence should be protected is the death of Tom Robinson.
One example of the theme occurs when the author first introduces the story. “But the summer I was 9 years old, the town I had always loved morphed into a beautifully heartbreaking and complicated place.” (pg. 1). The author is saying that the year she turned nine, she found out something about her town that broke her heart and changed the way she saw it. This quote is important because it supports the theme. It shows that now she is older she has learned something about her town that made her wiser than when she was younger. She is now more informed because the new information changed her and caused her to begin to mature.

Theme is the subject of talk, a topic, or morals that the author is trying to get readers to comprehend. When reading an excerpt, the theme is not directly stated in the text, so you must dig deeper into the context to understand the matter trying to be portrayed. In both Angela's Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a like theme of struggling through life’s complications. After reading the two different stories, we could select the theme from using character, events, and the setting.
Theme is the moral of the story. There can be 1 for an entire book or many in one book. Bravery helps people stand strong for what is right even when times are tough. is my thematic statement. Our scene is when Bod is on the big rock and the Jacks are telling him why they need to kill him and who they are. Bravery is the theme here because he shows that he will stand up ever when he is afraid. And when he is face to face with the people that want to kill him, he doesn’t run away. One of the Quotes that I believe shows bravery is , “‘you’ve not faded’ said liza ‘anyone could find you.’ ‘Good,’ said Bod. ‘I want them to find me’”. I believe this shows bravery because he is standing up to the jacks even though he might die. Another quote that
An idea that recurs in or pervades a work of art of literature can be referred to as a “Theme”. Themes often explore timeless and universal ideas and may be implied rather than stated explicitly. “The Trusty” is a work of fiction, written by Ron Rash, that tells the story of a man and a woman who try to escape their lives. In this short story, Sinkler is depicted as a scandalous but also as a distressed character. Many painted events lead to the illustration of a peculiar setting in which Sinkler is experiencing some abnormal instances. Sinkler is not dead, and his characterization has lead the audience to believe his flawed mental state is the reason why.
The theme in a story is the message or big idea that the author is trying to reveal in his or her narrative. If there was no underlining theme in Sherman Alexie’s short story, “This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona” then readers would have no interest in reading the fictional story. Understanding the message that Alexie is trying to display to his readers can vary in many ways and depends on the reader 's understanding of the story. Strong themes that are presented in the fictional tale are man versus self conflict, family, and tribal identity. Victor is a tribal member that has had a rough life and has to deal with his father passing away. Not only does he have to come to terms with his father 's death, but he also has to face his
John Steinbeck’s heart-rending, epic novel, The Grapes of Wrath, set during The Great Depression, clearly depicts human struggles, futile dreams, and turbulent futures. Steinbeck introduces the Joad family and their constant struggles, but one member, Ma Joad, holds the family together with her courage, hope, and love.
Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. The story “Battle Royal” by Ralph Ellison displays a few specific themes through the story which are easy to depict. A few themes from this story are, first racism and finding his self identity, then the danger of fighting stereotype with stereotype, and last blindness. These themes play an important role in the story to better help the reader understand it.
...rves the way for the plot, the theme is the central idea around which a literary piece revolves. Without the theme the plot would be meaningless and there would be nothing for the readers to derive from the literary piece. Without the plot, the theme would be meaningless as there would be nowhere to consign the message the writer intends to give the reader. It can be said that the plot and theme are the two most important literary elements of a literary piece and are inter-dependant.
Theme is the underlying power beneath a story; the “force” that makes the whole experience worthwhile. Theme is “an idea or message that the writer wishes to convey” (Holt 874). A theme can be either stated or implied. A stated theme is a theme “that the other expresses directly in his work (protic.net); an implied theme is a theme “that is not directly stated in the work” (protic.net). As mentioned before, both of these stories have an implied theme, which now is revealed to mean that the author of the story insinuated it. Themes exist in all stories (verbal or written) and can be long, short, true or false. “Earth people will beat out any other intelligent life-form in any and all competitions” is a theme, but “good always beats evil” is one too. “Once upon a time . . .” stories have themes too, except they are more one-dimensional. For example,...
Theme plays a very important part in this short story. Theme is the idea of a literary work abstracted from its details of language, character and action. The great example of theme that is evident throughout the entire short story is the duty to perform certain acts. We can see here that the Irishman Donovan is very big on obeying his duty to carry out orders that have been authorized to him.
With the help of Darzee’s wife to distract Nagaina, Rikki-Tikki killed all of the babies but one single egg. Darzee’s wife flew back to him in a frenzy, telling him that the snake had gone to the house for revenge upon the family and that she meant business. Rikki-Tikki raced to the house, just to catch her ready to strike the boys leg as he was eating breakfast. Rikki-Tikki got her attention and assured her that the egg that he had in his paw was the only one left of her family, and she immediately forgot about the boy. Nagaina and Rikki-tikki were on the porch ready to fight, but Rikki-tikki had placed the egg down and Nagaina snached it and raced to her nest. Rikki-Tikki bounded after her, determined to keep the family and the garden safe. She made it to her burrow but Rikki-tikki chased her down, not knowing when they would reach the point where she would be able to turn around and strike. Darzee began singing a heroic song of the mongoose that risked his own life to save the garden. As Darzee was singing, out came Rikki-Tikki from the burrow covered in dirt. Rikki-Tikki had saved the garden
For an abundance of authors, the driving force that aids them in creation of a novel is the theme or number of themes implemented throughout the novel. Often times the author doesn’t consciously identify the theme they’re trying to present. Usually a theme is a concept, principle or belief that is significant to an author. Not only does the theme create the backbone of the story, but it also guides the author by controlling the events that happen in a story, what emotions are dispersed, what are the actions of characters, and what emotions are presented within each environment to engage the readers in many
