Rihanna, a famous singer, is a victim of violence. In 2009, her boyfriend Chris Brown hit her while they were in their car that was taking them to the 2009 Grammy Awards. She also said her father was severely abusive to her mother in the past and hit her “numerous” times. Another case is Mariah Carey, for 5 years ago, she spoke publicly about the abuse she experienced during the time she got married to her first husband and former manager, Tommy Mottola. She told that, “Abuse has several categories -- emotionally, mentally, in other ways. For me to really get out of it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage, but a business where the person was in control of my life.” These are just two stories among a thousand, a million stories that someone suffered. Family violence can be defined as one family member making violent, emotionally harmful or assaultive behaviors towards a "spouse, child or any other family member" (Besharov, 1990). Family violence can be physical, sexual, psychological, social or economic. It is a hidden problem. People are usually reluctant to talk about what they suffer, or it just happens when the doors are closed. Women and children are usually the victims of violence, because they are the weaker ones.
First of all, domestic violence is a term that includes many types of violence and abuse such as physical, verbal, economic, sexual, social or spiritual abuse. The first type is physical and verbal/emotional abuse, this is the most popular one when people think about violence . It is happened when someone threatens to injure or harm other people, maybe their partner or their children.
