Argumentative Essay #3 Thomas Paine wrote a book titled Rights of Man in 1793. In this book he talks about how diverse America was and how American independence continues to grow within the nation. I agree with Pain on how America is a country of diversity and a cultivating nation. With new opportunities many people from different nations came to America. New religion, languages, different worships, and way of learning were brought to American by these new people which incremented the percentage of population. Paine characterized American by its diversity by asserting different people and what they bring to the nation. Paine stated, “People from different nations accustomed to different forms and habitats of government, speaking languages, and more different in their modes of worship. . .” I agree with Paine that America was and is still diverse. Diversity would allow people from different nations to come and spread new ideas. This allows our nation to grow as a nation and as a country. …show more content…
America would not have became a large and diverse nation without the help of our government.
Paine claims that the government is a big part of molding and constructing Americas society. He states, “. . .it would appear that the union of such people was impractical; but by the simple operation of constructing government on the principle of society and the rights of man. . .I agree with Paine about how America would be unserviceable without the help of our government. The government is a important part in forming our nation; with the diversity growing, Paine believes that constructing a government is simple but without the correct pick, America would conclude in
destruction. New and diverse people that entered America would usually conclude in economic problems. I agree that newcomers would not be the wealthiest, due to the search of jobs here in America. Though Paine conceded that, “There poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged. . . Their taxes are few because their government is just; and as there is nothing to render them wretched, there is nothing to engender riots and tumults.” He clarifies that although the poor were not persecuted, the rich were not conceited and taxes were low the government still encounter one of the prime roles in keeping the country low of problematic complications. With Paines intellectual knowledge and his support in America conclude that with all good still stands today. Our country stands with a high diversity, with many newcomers that are looking and either or bringing new religions and worship. The ideas brought and created in our nation increments the growth of America. Paine was convinced that with all these new changes formed, our government was the one who formed and shaped America for what it is today.
The 1770s proved to be a time of much chaos and debate. The thirteen colonies, which soon gained their independence, were in the midst of a conflict with Great Britain. The colonies were suffering from repeated injuries and usurpations inflicted upon them by the British. As a result of these inflictions, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry addressed these injustices, and proved to be very persuasive through providing reasoning and evidence that moved many colonists to believe that to reach contentment and peace the colonies had to rid themselves of British rule. Henry and Paine were successful in swaying their audience, not only because of the rhetorical strategies used, but also because they were passionate about the cause they were committed to.
Paine dwells on the differences between government and society. He stresses greatly on the fact that a government should be able to protect its society. Giving life and liberty to its people. He also points out that, Britain is the main cause of enemy to the Americas. Expressing disagreement with the British in American, he criticized the British government. He believes that the monarchy has too much power and their system is unreasonable. Paine complicates matters further when he writes, that the Americans are not British anymore. It is not British in a sense that it is so diverse, with different types of Europeans. In Paine’s views Britain is not a mother country, since it imposes harsh treatments and is in a war too often. The idea of best interest was important to Paine. In his views, Britain sees the Americas as profitable institutions to control and gains riches from, as opposed to the development and freedom of the nations. Independence from Britain was one of many ideas of this pamphlet. “Common Sense”, essentially pointed out the reasons why the colonies should leave the British and form a new government. His views on government inspired “Limited government” and “natural laws”, which gives citizens more control on how they shape their local environment and
With America being as diverse as it is, people would think everyone is united, but is that completely true? Thomas Paine shows his view of America as being a harmonious country with no problems. Even though over the years America has become a lot more diverse, that does not signify, all of the sudden, we have become a problem-free nation, comparable to what Thomas Paine thinks. Every nation has difficulties, and that includes America. America is nowhere close to being a perfect nation, but some nations have a lot more conflicts than America; and we have been trying, over the years, to become closer as a stronger country. Even with diversity growing in America, supporting Paine's argument, the United States is not a complete, harmonious nation,
Human beings all around the world are different in many ways. They all have their unique and physical characteristics, as well as different personalities. They each also have different ideas and thoughts on different topics. America is made up of a great amount of diverse people with diverse, even conflicting opinions and ideas. Diversity is a major component of the foundation of our country. The cliché of American as a salad bowl is extremely true. Every person is different and every person in his or her own way makes up a small part of America. Without the diversity of ideas and beliefs of Americans, the nation would not be nearly as successful as we are. A major similarity between Ralph Waldo Emerson's Self Reliance and J.D Salinger's Catcher in the Rye is a non-conformist ideology that both exhibit, and the idea that one should choose their own individuality above confomity.
The French Revolution was a tumultuous period, with France exhibiting a more fractured social structure than the United States. In response, the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen proposed that “ignorance, neglect, or contempt of the rights of man are the sole cause of public calamities, and of the corruption of governments” (National Assembly). This language indicates that the document, like its counterpart in the United States, sought to state the rights of men explicitly, so no doubt existed as to the nature of these rights. As France was the center of the Enlightenment, so the Enlightenment ideals of individuality and deism are clearly expressed in the language of the document. The National Assembly stated its case “in
Paine had not entertained the idea of independence from Britain when he arrived in America. He thought it was “a kind of treason” to break away from Britain. It was not until the Battle of Lexington in 1775 that he considered “the compact between Britain and America to be broken” (Claeys). This idea of a broken compact allowed Thomas Paine to write a political pamphlet.
Thomas Jefferson had a different view on how the government should run over what Thomas Paine felt. I really like how Thomas Paine worded it the best by stating “In order for the colonist to prosper in the long term, the colonies need to be independent.” Paine all so states “by declaring independence, America will be able to ask for help from other countries in its struggle for freedom.” The colonist just needed to break away so they could grow on their own. By the colonists breaking away is how the United States of America was formed.
According to Thomas Jefferson, all men are created equal with certain unalienable rights. Unalienable rights are rights given to the people by their Creator rather than by government. These rights are inseparable from us and can’t be altered, denied, nullified or taken away by any government, except in extremely rare circumstances in which the government can take action against a particular right as long as it is in favor of the people’s safety. The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America mentions three examples of unalienable rights: “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. I believe these rights, since they are acquired by every human being from the day they are conceived, should always be respected, but being realistic, most of the time, the government intervenes and either diminishes or
Back in the late 1700s America was still a newly founded country and Paine was trying to make and image where America was great with absolutely no problems. America suffers with almost no unity and though some of Paine 's statements were accurate and some not so much this shows that with time everything changes. The country Paine characterized is a country where the majority of Americans want to live in. A country where there is equality and justice, but one day this country will achieve that again with
America is different from other places, it always has been. The reason why is that America has a vast variety of “.people from different nations, accustomed to different forms and habits of government, speaking different languages, and different in their modes of worship.” America is an immense melting pot. Together they all help America strive in every field of technology, work, and life because of all of these differences. Thomas Paine’s characterization of America does not hold true today.
The man with the most impact that changed history was Thomas Paine. He created a pamphlet called Common Sense . Not only did he have an impact he had a somewhat negative life. His burial was very awful. Paines beliefs in religion was different from other people. That belief caused him to create a book the age of reason.
Whether it is campaigning for an abolitionist movement in the eighteen-hundreds or fighting for women's basic freedoms, they fought for long-term safety and security. One of the first of many examples in the fight for freedom is Thomas Paine and his pamphlet entitled Common Sense. Published in 1776, Paine explains that the people of America must fight against the unfair and unjust ways of the British Parliament. His ideas on independence and freedom created a revolution in American history. Paine not only advocated against the temporary security and restraint forced upon America, but he proposed the ideas of everyday freedoms and an unbreakable sense of security in The American
Many individuals tried to avoid conflicts between nations and hoped they can be resolved by themselves. However, the pamphlet expresses thorough ideas and details that were very compelling. For example, it had compelled the undecided colonists that revolted against Great Britain is a must. Laws and regulations were needed when the populations began to expand in the colonies. As Thomas Paine states, "best balance for a government", he exclaims how it was impossible to apprehend each individuals decision and ideas without having a meeting. Therefore, elections had been taken place; however, it was right for Paine to feel that it was wrong for an island nation such as England to rule a continent and how America is not a "British nation", for what Europe was trying to establish by being a negative influence. He also stated that "if Britain was a mother country, that her brutality on her children would be considered horrendous". This quote demonstrates how Britain had no right what so ever to take over a powerful nation as America and have the influence of monarchy. To conclude, the colonies were a aim for the British to achieve by taking over and trying to have power over them rather than helping the colonist with their
On August 26, 1789, the assembly issued the “Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen.” Through judicial matters, this document was written in order to secure due process and to create self-government among the French citizens. This document offered to the world and especially to the French citizens a summary of the morals and values of the Revolution, while in turn justifying the destruction of a government; especially in this case the French government, based upon autocracy of the ruler and advantage. The formation of a new government based upon the indisputable rights of the individuals of France through liberty and political uniformity.
citizenship is the men who fight for their country in good and bad. Government like the king, are the men who destroy and hurt homes. These concepts reflect the cultural movement by showing how men will fight for their freedom just to have a king or a villain come and try to take it away. In paragraph 6 Paine explains how "the independence of the continent was declared too soon, or delayed too long". What he means when he says that if freedom had been declared earlier things would be better. He also talks about Britain. In the first paragraph he says how Britain has declared not only taxation but "to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER". Paine is referring to slavery, how there's so much slavery having freedom is almost uncommon. Slavery is a big
