A New Journey With Percy Jackson
The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan
312 pages
Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series based on Greek mythology, takes Percy
on a new journey in his third installment of the series “The Titan’s Curse”. Percy must now
venture out on a new quest when he learns of two half blood children that are in trouble. He and
his friends Annabeth and Thalia meet Grover at the boarding school where the children are to
help save them from a manticore who is in disguise as the principle. When Percy and his friends
try to help the children escape Annabeth falls off of a cliff with the manticore. This is where
Percy’s journey begins in “The Titan’s Curse” as he must now save Annabeth, a goddess herself,

before the winter solstice.
Percy and the hunters will have to battle in many places like the
junkyard of the gods where Bianca ultimately sacrifices herself to save everyone else. It is in this
quest that Percy will come face to face with the prophecy of the titan’s curse and solve the
mystery of the monster that is believed to be powerful enough to destroy Olympus.
The purpose in writing “The Titan’s Curse” was to introduce the third installment in the
Percy Jackson and The Olympians series. In this book Percy, the Hunters and the campers
undertake a new quest. Rick Riordan gives us “The Titan’s Curse” to show us how Percy is
growing as a demigod. Even though Percy doesn’t accept that his father is Poseidon and that he
is a half blood he realizes that he can still be the person he wants to be. The intent of this
installment in the series is to show us how Percy is growing up and the lessons he is learning
along the way.
There are many themes presented in this book. A major one is that of friendship and
loyalty. Another is that someone should not be judged because of where he or she comes from or
who their parents or family may be. All of the main characters show that true friendship

and loyalty can get them through any situation. Percy does not sit by when he finds out that Annabeth was captured by Atlas and Luke. Instead he instantly leaves to start his new quest to save her. Sacrifice is also shown when Bianca gives up her life to help save the others on the quest so they could carry on and succeed.
“The Titan’s Curse” shows readers that no matter what happens in
life loyalty and friendship are the qualities that matter the most as Percy’s mom shows when she
tells him “I know you’ll do what’s best for Annabeth because I know she’d do the same for you.”

Symbolism is often found in Rick Riordan’s writing in The Percy Jackson series. Percy
tells Annabeth “No. I choose the prophecy. It will be about me.” (206) Symbolizing that some
meanings of things only become clear through the search. Percy didn’t want to take on such
responsibility but he knew he had to step up and find a way to save his friends. Sometimes
reasons for doing things aren’t always clear in the beginning. There are times when one has to
just take the first step and the reasons will show themselves along the way.
I was able to really connect with this book. Percy and his friends were there for each
other through everything they were faced with. I believe that I have that kind of a connection
with my friends and family. We all have different backgrounds and come from different places.
We don’t all have the same amount of money or fancy things to play with but we all treat
each other the same. I believe that we all share what we have and we don’t judge someone because of something they may or may not have or where they come from. This book taught me that no matter what a true friend will always be there for you but that you have to know who you can really trust. I have enjoyed the Percy Jackson series and with “The Titan’s Curse” I look forward to reading the next installment. Rick Riordan writes in present day language so that todays kids and adults will understand what he is writing about while still learning of true history of Greek Mythology. I give this book an A- as it took me on many adventures and journeys but sometimes it just sort of dragged on. The book was funny at times, sad at times and had a lot of action and I felt that I was on the journey with Percy and his friends.
They started hiding and saw a like a centaur, with a woman’s body from the waist but instead of a horse's lower body it had the body of a dragon and it's hair looked like Medusa's. Percy realized that they were snakes and they were hundreds of vipers moving around, looking for something to
...ts suicide at the end of the book. As with Dunstan, Percy is influenced by the powerful motivator of guilt. He felt so overpoweringly guilty because of what he did to Ms. Dempster that he committed suicide. If the motivator of guilt had not been present, he would have kept on living.
Theme: Situations and surroundings can shatter the innocence of friendship, but more the identity of the individuals.
Percy’s relationship with other characters reveal a lot about who he is.The feelings with his mother is that there close. Percy feelings his dad is he thinks he’s a coward and Percy doesn't like his step father. Percy's feelings with his mom is that they are both close because in the text it says “But ever since, my mom went out of her way to eat blue. She baked blue birthday cakes. She mixed blueberry smoothies. She bought blue-corn tortilla chips and brought home blue candy from the shop. This—along with keeping her maiden name, Jackson, rather than calling herself Mrs. Ugliano—was proof that she wasn't totally suckered by Gabe. She did have a rebellious streak, like me.” This shows they are close because he calls her mom and cares about
This is a similarly evident theme in the novel The Lightning Thief. When Chiron tells Percy that he must go see the Oracle to receive his prophecy, Percy hesitates but, as usual, a prophecy can not be avoided. And as shown in the novel, the giving of prophecies is included. After the Oracle told Percy his fate, he hesitated then realized what had just been said. He launched back at the Oracle scrambling and hoping to find the silver-lining in his seemingly negative fate. “And you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end. The figures began to dissolve. At first I was too stunned to say anything, but as the mist retreated... I cried, "wait! What do you mean? What friend? What will I fail to save?" Percy was afraid of the last line of the prophecy he was given, “and you shall fail to save what matters most.” He tried to get more information and a deeper, and complete understanding but the Oracle had retreated and his time/audience with it was over. As it relates to the common theme that is presented in both The Lightning Thief and “The Myth of Cronus”, in fear of his fate, Percy scrambles for a deeper understanding, and fails in doing so. In that sense, Percy fails to understand and is left in fear and secrecy at the end of the
This is the true start to Percy’s quest. He made a few friends in the camp and they agreed to go on this journey with him. Those accompanying him were his protector Grover and Athena’s daughter Annabeth. They also get some helpful tools fro...
Percy is immensely brave. He is not afraid to do anything if it meant he could save another's life, like he
Percy and his friends are in many different settings in the stories, all having their similarities and differences. The one that stands out to me is the Labyrinth. Percy spends the most time in the Labyrinth than any other setting. Also, this one is completely the opposite of the other two settings. In the text it says “We made it a hundred feet before we were hopelessly lost.” (Riordan, 94). This states how they’ve only been walking for a little bit until they were lost. This represents how confusing the labyrinth is. Then, the setting is Camp Half Blood. This is the place where Percy trains for his upcoming battles or events. In Chapter 13, page 226, Percy arrives back at camp, and he is welcomed by familiar faces. This explains how relieving

Percy Jackson is the main character in this story, who is a demi god, who mortals are after. His name is short for Perseus and his father is one of the big three gods, Poseidon. He is suffering from dyslexia and ADHD, which could be deliberately added to the character by Riordan, to show he is meant to be a hero, and not to do well in school. This shows that school is not what he is good at, and he is destined to be a hero and save people. The character Grover, who plays Percy’s best friend, parallels a Satyr who is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down and is a companion of wine God, Dionysus, who we later learn, is the camp director for Half-Blood Camp.
Percy Jackson is a twelve-year-old New Yorker who has dyslexia and ADHD. He attended Yancy Academy, a private school for "troubled" kids somewhere in upstate new york. Percy's troubles started in May of his sixth grade year, when his class traveled to manhatten to a musem. This girl named Nancy bullied his friend, Grover by hitting him in the back of the head with bits of sandwich. Percy was unable to stop her because he was being watched and if something went wrong he would suffer in school suspenstion. Mrs. Dobbs, a math teacher from Georga would look at him with an evil eye everytime he would tell the kids to shut up. Nancy was sitting in the fountain and Nancy blamed Percy. Mrs.Dobbs took Percy away from the kids, and she brought him to
From the Greek Myth, “Danaϋs, Perseus and The Gorgon” and the film, Percy Jackson and Olympians The Lightning Thief, the movie modernises and draws onto the challenges, the perfect hero archetype, and the quest storyline in many ways. The film even added more challenges onto the myth! From formulating new characters, a new family line, and different storylines- the film of Percy has many modernizations! Now, the modernizations of the events in the myth will be discussed.
In chapter 1 of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, it states “I’m 12 years old. Until a few months ago, I was a boarding student at Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids up in upstate New York”. According to “The Hero’s Journey” Percy is following “The Ordinary World” part of it.
This is a companion book on how Percy can connect to different characters and settings, and what he feels throughout the book. It is also on getting a better understanding of the characters and how they feel throughout the book.
Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson book series are a modern interpretation of Greek and Roman mythology adapted to link antiquity narratives with the modern-day state of political and socials ideology. One of the most prevailing aspects of today’s society depicted in the Percy Jackson series that appeals to people as a collective is that of social hierarchy and balance. Hence why it is best to approach the novel series as a myth and to treat it as such.
